Time to call in a favour!! my ABS light came on when i was on my way home tonight. Got home to find that my drivers side rear brake has seized on. Is there by chance anyone in the Portsmouth area who would be able to come round give me a hand? really need it sorted saturday for the drive up to Stealth sunday!! If not it will have to be a trip to Kwik Fit, but would rather avoid if i can!! Thanks in advance Andy

its the 3rd of December -
Assuming its the usual door handle failure, Get in touch with Dave16v who makes and sells repair kits £14 IIRC. £150 for a door handle??? what was is, solid gold or something?? all you need to do to remove it is undo the screw just above the door mechanism, slide the handle forward and pull it out. If you need to completly remove it then take off the door card, peel back the plastic covering and disconnect the wires. Any questions just shout!

Superb work as always Nathan! I know some people have queries your prices but my god it seems worth every penny!! You dont fancy coming to the RR day and doing a free demo for everyone on my car do you??? -
Does anyone know of the blue and black temp senders are normally kept in stock at the stealers? Just phoned Peter Cooper in portsmouth to be told that there computer systems are down so they couldnt help! Does anyone have the part numbers by chance?
-
Nice one Steve, ill take a couple of your hands at the RR day 'just in case'!! For sure!

Yeah i was very impressed with the guy, was amazed he was willing to do that by the side of the road in the rain! and to drive a 40 min round trip just to pick up a £4 part was superb of him. I passed my thanks onto the guy personnaly and ticked all the 'very impressed' boxes relating to him on the review thing on the PDAs they have. He may of been a ford man at heart, but think i can let him off for that!

There was i pootling to work this morning, hit the normal traffic in Milford waiting at the lights. All of a sudden i see the temperature guage is off the scale, then the coolant level light starts flashing, follwed soon after by a ton of steam from the engine bay. I managed to get the car to the side of the road (was in the second lane!!) which wasnt helpful as noone stopped for me, popped the bonnet to see the collant hose had come off, ok easy fix me thinks! but also thought of blown head gasket! On second look i see that the hose hadnt just come off but had taken half the flange with it so and not leaving enough for the hose to be clamped too. so i call the RAC.... 90 minutes later Mr Patrol man turns up... Looks at it and agrees it looks like the head gasket had gone, not happy at that point as it was only replaced a few months ago. Anyway... he said that the best thing would be to try to get another part, might be difficult he says as people dont keep G60 paerts in stock, so i tell him that GSF usually keep the flanges in stock. So he takes the flange off (not easy as alot of you will know - especially when its raining!!) we leave my C on the side of the road, and go off to GSF about 20 mins away. get the part, and get back. He bolts the flange on with quite abit of swearing! fills the collant system up and we start the motor to let it get to temperture 100oC comes and no fan cutting in, 110oC comes and still no fan so thinking rad fan switch gone too. So we look to just hotwire the fan as a temp fix. but we find there to be no power to the fan! so check the fuse by the relays infront of the header tank to find the metal strip type fuse has gone, Mr RAC didnt have spare so 'bogged' it by using an inline blade fuse holder instead, still no power, checks fuse in cabin and finds a 30amp fuse had blown. fits fuse and fan comes on - YAY!! so looks like one of the fuses blew which caused the other to blow, which meant the fan wasnt coming on so in traffic the temperture just kept going up! so think it rules out a blown head gasket! Also while we were playing trying to get the fan working we discovered that the Blue temp sender is knackered so will be getting a replacement from VAG shortly. When the RAC guy arrived i got the usual 'i love these things' but other than that i cant fault the RAC guy, great chap very friendly, very knowledgeable with a tricked out van! we spent ages talking about his Ford's and the G60. and what really made it for me was when he arrived he shook my hand, never had a recoveryt patrol person do that. Finally arrived at work in Guildford 5 hours after i left home! beaking my previous record for the trip of 4 hours when my head gasket died! Thought id just share that with you! its always a nice suprise to have a £4 fix when you were expecting a £700 fix!!

My G60 does a 90 mile round trip everyday

Check the fuses and relays in the uprated loom, could well be a dodgy connection there somewhere.

Both engines are VR turbos so pretty much the same, give or take a few ponies! After reading it sounds like he either sold the twin turbo VR or has broken it to use in this set up (leaving one turbo on, and putting the rear engine) Sounds they are aiming at 500WHP to start (250WHP from each engine) i would guess 700WHP is easily acheivable, and with enough cash thrown at it 1000 would be doable ......although as im not a VR owner i could be talking rubbish!!
-
Possibly a knackered temp sender?
-
1 engine driving front wheels, 1 engine driving back wheels. Looks like the guys have made a shift mechanism so both gearboxes change together, but they can disconnect the rear shift so they run just the front.

Gotta be dinkus' new car surely??

Best of luck getting her running properly again Andy, bound to be the last thing you try!! must be so frustrating having put her all together, have her run well when you came over then do this. It'll be worth it once youve finally got your charger run in and give it some stick! You planing on going up to stealth RR day in a few weeks mate? -
Was wondering where you got the stabilizer bolt from!! Sounds like quite a good find. How is she running now?
-
How about the green VW put on the IROC?

Think Flusted has those sort of wipers so should be able to give some good advice! those are 2 mods that are pretty much essential especially now the darker mornings and evening are approaching! you will be amazed at the difference the uprated loom makes!

Think its part and parcel of owning a G60! If the noise doenst make the car slow down or lights flash on the instrument panel then its usually nothing to worry about......
-
alright guys need some raddo buying advice
Dub_nut_g60 replied to mk2golfvalver's topic in General Car Chat
try the buying guide it covers all flavours of C. Take it with you, or if you can take it and another forum member knowledgeable in all thing IMO the G60 is the one you want, good luck in yout search. -
Who says a Corrado cant be practical??
-
Already had the drivers switch out to check but all seems ok, didnt check it with a multimeter though..... might try it to see if it is working
-
switches arent stuck in on either door. Think it must have something to do with the cabin courtesy light as it doesnt work on any setting.
-
cheers Dom! shall try to change it at some point.... Alarm still works, but drivers door can be opened without it going off!! although on the plus side i guess the door handle is currently broken so cant be opened easily!
