  1. Followed up the rear wiper removal with lubrication of the wing raising mechanism, as per Yan's recommended procedure. Smooth as silk now - cheers Yan! :D 3in1 white Lithium grease spray can still available from Halfords for £4.
  2. I guess that would be with the bonnet then?
  3. There is a regular meet "Dub Preservation" @ Sherburn in Elmet - Squires Cafe. 1st Thursday of each month - 19.00hrs. Why did I suddenly think Formaldehyde?? You a pathologist Wullie?
  4. Pretty much, though I guess they would use their infinitely variable technology to get a seamless drive. I'd expect it to give a much squarer torque curve, much like the turbos produce, and decent boost starting from lower down.
  5. The collaboration between Torotrak and Rotrex starting to develop. [Rotrak] See - http://www.transportengineer.org.uk/art ... ncies.aspx Anyone fancy a Rotrex with infinitely variable transmission drive?!
  6. There is a regular meet "Dub Preservation" @ Sherburn in Elmet - Squires Cafe. 1st Thursday of each month - 19.00hrs. See - http://www.dub-preservation.co.uk/index.html Last time I went mine was the only C, probably 20 other dubs. It'll be a little dark after Sept. Loadsa bikes - it is a bikers' venue really
  7. Say Wompa - cool bay you got there.
  8. More than welcome to. Are there many meets organised in the Yorkshire region, haven't really seen any threads about them. Hi Ben-B Well there's the VW Festival at Harewood ont' 15th Aug and CCGB National day at Elvington Air Museum ont' 29th Aug. We've had less formal gatherings, last 1 at The Old Post Office M1 jn 38. Next Easter [ish] there'll be Elsecar VDub meet. Will be good to meet you and yr new C! :D
  9. De-wipered the tailgate - or at least VAG-hag did! [i just supplied the car and passed the tools.] Many thanks for the bung Fay - just the ticket. Every time I go to garage for gardening stuff, I just stand back and gawp - makes so much difference. I'm amazed it wasn't a dealer option to take t' wiper off!
  10. I'll deffo have to see this one - to see what I missed out on!
  11. That sounds worth the long wait - be good to see it in the flesh. Thanks again Mic for the loan of the pencil coil packs. :D
  12. Noticed today that Torotrak [designers/developers of toroidal friction drive IVT's] now has 15% stake in Rotrex.
  13. What a machine - you lucky man! I agree re running in - the more care spent gradually increasing the load and keeping the engine spinning freely, the more it will repay you in rattle free reliability. Peeps [especially sales peeps] who advise otherwise are simply engineering philistines! Even lumps of metal have to rub along gently to develop empathy for each other! To start with anyway. :norty: :norty:
  14. That looks a really nice car and with all the appropriate TLC you're lavishing on it I'm sure it'll repay you by the bucketful!
  15. Ditto The figures look like they're from a commercial diesel [maybe Audi 3.0?] and the curves look like nothing I've ever seen before. They're certainly not for a VR6 12V! Lovely looking car though. :luvlove:
  16. What an excellent 1st birthday celebration - thanks to DG and families/helpers - take a bow! [and to be fair - also the kind weather!] A great convoy down too! Rarely do we see such a great collection of C's. Many thanks also to Chris G. and Jim for diagnosing my immobiliser/starting prob, also Graham for instantly diving in with the magic WD40 fix! :notworthy: I shudder to think how slowly I'd have got to the solution to the prob, had it arisen anywhere else. Many thanks to Chris also for the VAG-com service to many, including mine - ABS sensor on order! :D Roll on birthday No 2 guys!
  17. Neat job that. Goin back a bit though - still got V9 in! Did you have to spec your insulation so as to stop innocent bystanders gettin heatstroke then? As a matter of interest though, was VW's intent to provide noise or heat insulation?
  18. Yeah - Vince advised me that some St1 V9 setups give pressure wave oscillation probs when MAF controlled and these are exagerated at St2 - which is why most St2's are MAFless. Vince also advised [2 yrs ago now] that he was working on tweaks for the MAF control at St2 to deal with the oscillations. I've optimised mine to the 22" length of duct from centre of MAF to eye of blower suction which smooths oscillation and engine operation but seems to drop power slightly. I modded my V9 delivery duct last year to fit the Schrick better and avoid rubbing on the O/S suspension tower. [see pic] Image0041.jpg[/attachment:29p9dygj] Did you go to the smaller 8psi St2 pulley then?
  19. IMHO Look far better without, tho' still haven't got round to doin' mine! There is a thread/guide on here re how best to go about it.
  20. Seem to be a problem on all the switches, even brand new dealer ones sometimes  . So best to test them out as per RW1's guide before fitting :) Don't want to push it - but are you set up for testing on sat? :ignore:
  21. This sounds a little like the old Ford V6 in Scimitar self combusting scenario caused by interference fit petrol feed pipe in carb casting working loose, filling the Vee with fuel and woosh! Standard solution - refit using Araldite. Say Dave - does this apply to the later switches also?
  22. I'm after you Jon! Say Greg - going to DG's barbecue on saturday?
  23. Gee-whiz - 425 and a nice fat curve - that's healthy! Did Vince send you the torque curve too? Any chance of a gander?
