Wonder how often we bid against each other on e bay?
Valerian replied to timg60's topic in General Car Chat
I was outbid on a white passenger side wing by a certain person on here.....wouldn't have minded but i gave him some help in the forum here the day before the auction ended :fist: -
nice home page.....but the menu seems to be dead
-
looks like a valver exhaust to me but then what do i know. I think (but am not sure) that VR6 and Valver exhausts fit both or either. I'm sure someone will be along to put you/me right shortly

Worth checking your throttle cable where it runs through the bulk head.....they are prone to fraying at that point and can stick. Also check all vacuum pipes for leaks.....again this is a hard one to diagnose without seeing the car in the flesh.
-
I visited a chap last week who is fitting a 1.8 turbo Nissan 200sx engine in his Dax. Always wanted to build a car myself one day.....must resist
-
blimey....this thread is yonks old.....never noticed .....lol
-
Have this same problem on my C......i have taken the bi-pass valve off and replaced with two straight through heater pipes.....still no good though.
-
Great to hear you got her running in the end......it's really satisfying when you hear an engine run after so many problems .....don't you think? What does she pull like with the KR cams in?
-
Some service history is advisable but like most VW engines....100k is just about run in
-
They are called "speed nuts"
-
If any of the vacuum pipes are leaking....not connected .....or connected wrong....the engine won't start

Right .......take number one spark plug out and put a stick down the spark plug hole this will help you to see when no.1 is at TDC. Now line up the TDC mark on the bottom pulley with the mark on the cambelt cover. Go to the other end of the engine and check that the flywheel mark is at TDC. If both marks are correctly aligned your stick should show that no.1 piston is at the top of it's stroke. Now check the camshaft timing marks. If all lines up ok then you need to check that you haven't replaced the dizzy bolts into the wrong holes. The dizzy has two sets of bolt holes and if you get confused you can end up putting the bolts back into the wrong ones. There is a TDC mark on the dizzy outer rim that should be just about lined up with the centre of the rotor arm when the engine is at TDC. If it's not ....then you have dizzy bolts in the wrong holes. If you've done work on the head you often get probs with sticky valves or lifters that can make a hell of a racket. Just take your time and make sure you are calm before you check everything again. I had a similar prob a couple of months back but patience is they key. Even if you do feel like totally trashing the car and paying a scrap dealer huge sums of money to take the damn thing out of your sight.(like i nearly did a few times....lol)
-
Why do you need to take the bottom pulley (s?) off?
-
I assume you have the cam chain sprockets lined up correctly at TDC as well? If all your TDC marks are correct and the car doesn't fire correctly you should start adjusting the ignition timing.
-
If you are a bit skint....daves16v will sell you just the drivers side repair kit......then you can experience the fun in a few months when the passenger handle breaks.
-
Could be either ignition timing or weak fuel mixture......or even both. Could also be a number of other things but the two i have stated are the most common for the fault you describe.
-
Check your tensioner for side to side play in the bearing....their shouldn't be any play at all. Always worth replacing the tensioner anyway .....tad expensive at £35 mark from VAG.......but well worth doing as this part is nearly always neglected on any car.

6 months ....wish i'de had it from new because then perhaps it wouldn't be in the state it's in

What does your VW dealer think of corrados?
Valerian replied to surfer.vr6's topic in General Car Chat
Some young lad behind the parts counter once said to me ...after i asked a queston about the C that none of them could answer....."perhaps you should take it to someone who knows about cars"......lmao I don't think he realised what he was actually saying at the time. The comment was aimed at me .....or was it? Apart from that .....which annoyed me greatly at the time.....they are pretty helpfull with spares. I doubt half of them are old enough to know what a Corrado is though. -
If it's not the relay .....check the wiring that goes from the stalk to the loom connector under the steering cowling. This wiring is also a common fault causing C wipers to intermittently work.

Corrado Spotting Was it you [Archive March 06]
Valerian replied to biggrim's topic in General Car Chat
I have to confess i was in the car park at Halfrauds Barnstaple today, in the pouring rain, when a man and a lady took an interest in my C. I was about to drive off and the weather was crap so didn't stop to talk. It's only when i had reversed out of my parking spot next to a large van that i realised on the other side of the van was your L'reg white C. So whoever you were :salute: You had a http://www.street-stylers-southwest.co.uk sticker in the rear quarter window and a sticker with a Bude telephone number. Also saw a Dark blue or black C in Barnstaple near the Esso garage being driven by a woman who couldn't take her eyes off me (i wish)
