    dash swap

Seen a Mk2 at a Wembley Club GTi meet, that had a Mk4 dash in. Looked great think its been featured in PVW before. Cant imagine its easy though...............what a headache!
  2. must have scared some of those works Cooper S's down your way..lol........if the intercooler on the front did'nt then the whoosh from the exhaust would have!

    Airbox Mod

Henny, how does that alter the noise made, does it become boomy? Does it sound like there's an induction cone being used? Like the idea of the extra air flow but not at the cost of too much more noise

    Airbox Mod

You can take out the snorkel in the air-box very easily but I found this just created too much of a boom, nice induction roar but it was way too load for my tastes. To do this just take the air box out and pull the snorkel out, same process to put it back in.
  5. id be a little careful, sounds a hell of a lot of extra grunt to put through the engine.................not nice. imo anyway
  6. Which Insurer/brooker's was that Stormseeker?
  7. got qouted the same....think it was plus vat though....gsf list two types I went for the more expensive ones listed. When I looked in detail at them they appeared to have a tiny vw stamp on the top of the rubbers - not sure if they are genuine but saved me £60 odd quid and seem fine.

    Psi

Sandy, thanks for replying, what sort of psi is the charger running with the 70mm pulley? Ive been told the head and cam although they will help they are not the best money spent on the G60?

    Tyres Again

G-Lader wrote: Agree with the F1's, they are great in the wet however Goodyear do a cheaper directional tyre that is also great in the wet! Think they worked out at £50 fitted for 185/60/14 on a Golf 16v. Eagle Ventura? Thats them, Goodyear Eagle Ventura, very good tyres considering the price.
  10. Whats the turn out like in crap weather.....fancy a drive out tonight but not if there's likely to be no one there!

    Psi

Kev, understand what you mean, I spent £800 plus at Jabba when I first got the car thinking it would produce 190bhp (chip,68mm,Stg 4 with my exhaust/filter/de-cat)....had it rolling roaded and it produced 175bhp.........been down to see G-Werks since then and they seem to know what they are talking about - car ran loads better just after a set-up........ They basically said there is a big variation in bhp figures of G60's because a lot of these engines are well down on compression to start with 100k plus miles, so the modifying does not work miracles etc etc They tested the compression on my engine and its excellent which is why they felt the bhp should end up near the 220bhp......bearing in mind the psi is peaking at 10 to produce 175-180 then 17psi may well have some big effects if the fueling is set up to match? Thats what Im hoping anyway! Looking at spending the same money again with G-werks but getting it done properly this time......... Reason I talk about bhp is that I have been out in a G60 which was rolling roaded at just over 220bhp and torque of over 200...............very quick, unless youre driving in the wet !

    Psi

Henny - they are two diff. questions ive been told with my standard cam, heavy porting,65mm pulley, red-tops,3.5fpr and custom map in conjunction with my exhaust/filter and de-cat I should see in the region of 220bhp.....trying to gauge the sort of performance that may be expected.

    Psi

How does psi relate to bhp..............if your putting out 10psi on a 68mm pulley which gives approx. 175-180 bhp then what would you expect to see bhp wise with a 65mm pulley? Also does anyone have any idea of rough figures for a standard cam'd 220bhp G60......0-60's,50-70's, 1/4 miles etc
  15. if you look hard enough you should be able to get a nice Mk2 16v or Mk3 Gti,should be a lot cheaper to run than a Corrado.......thats if you find a decent one
  16. Chuck - thanks, I'll have a look tonight.
  17. established through speakering to VW that my 16v golf was fitted with a thermostatic valve under a recall (works carried out 1995). If there's water in the footwell and a small loss from the coolant bottle then could it just be the valve's bust? Where is the valve located and is there any way of checking? Cheers Sorry i know these 'heater matrix' questions are dragging on a bit!

    Which Tyres?

must agree with the Goodyear Eagle F1's but Goodyear also do a cheaper directional tyre which imo is great in the wet as well..........have two of each on a valver and did not notice any real diff. when i changed the f1's to the back of the car bringing the cheaper G/year directionals onto the front.
  19. crazymarcel, think at that price you did well not to win the bid.....
  20. i thought the MR2 Turbo's were quicker than the VR6 to start with!

    Hello

welcome to the forum, what you had done to that there G40 then......heard they are very rapid when fettled with......
  22. cant imagine it looks so good up close when you see the clear lense on the front, pretty clever bloke mind. Ive always loved the look of Corrado/Jetta/Rallye lights in stock form imo
  23. stevemac - seems a bit of a bargain that insurance, have to join the club before I renew in Feb04........paying about £750 fully comp with full ncd un-protected ......... Ive got a Croydon postcode though..........must bump it up a bit I suspect?
  24. just had my Jabba Stg4,chip n'pulley (+ jetex,de-cat,giro valve,FSE fpr and K&N panel) r-roaded at Austic which is supposed to be pretty genuine figures.........came back with 170bhp but highlighted a cpl of problems being hesitant fueling (may be the fse or jabba chip) and a low peak boost (boost leak I hope), kinda hoping the cam timing may be a tooth out whcih i suspect would instantly provide 10-15 bhp? Good news is that im off to G-Werks on sunday to get the car checked over so hoping to enjoy the drive back from Littlehampton more than the drive down there! Just goes to show these G-60's need to be set up properly by people that really know what they are talking about !
