Another vote for the Golf G60. The install would have been really straight forward if I'd used a golf rallye/g60 radiator too. But it still wasn't overly complex modifying the standard corrado one - I'll write a guide eventually :) Couple of pics: Edit: Oops sorry about huge pictures!

Ultimate Car In Your Price Range (ish)
Shilakadaddy replied to biggerbigneil's topic in General Car Chat
Yeah me and a mate drove up on sunday, spent a few hours with Chris and Wayne, went out in the skyline :D  that car is awesome! Chris even let me have a drive of the corrado which was also mightly impressive. But yeah I've been convinced to go Jap, would love a skyline, but the insurance is double what it would cost on a supra, which I just can't justify. But hopefully Chris and Wayne should be able to sort something out for me :D My mate that came with me also wants a skyline or supra now, lol -

Corrado will be up for sale after christmas to be replaced with this: ...Well something thats a whole lot more standard than that... but yeah a supra! :D -
1: Almost, the centre mounting bracket didn't fit on mine and needed to be removed - doesn't seem to have made much difference tho 2: Not all - the headlight and spoiler switches are the same. Don't know about the passat 3: ? 4: Yes. That reminds me I need to look for a late spec wiring loom Chris :)

G60 standard oil cooler is a water heat exchange cooler thing, and it doesn't work too well. No power gains are seen by fitting an oil cooler, but its a must have mod for any modified G60

Was looking a lot cleaner than mine mate! There's loads of pics from the day for those interested Summer Nights Official Photo's Section 5 Official Photo's Couple of Dan's I got too 8)

There was a Golf Rallye there too which got 220bhp! I asked the guy what he'd done to it, and he said it had a pulley and chip, and an odd ISV valve thing - not quite sure what that was, but I'm guessing it was just a block off to stop it venting boost

No, this is my full engine spec list: - G-Werks Stage 4 Supercharger - 68mm Pulley - Golf G60 Intercooler - Bar-Tek Intercooler Pipework - Red Top Injectors - SNS Stage 5 Chip - Gas Flowed Head - Supersprint Exhaust - Milltek Decat - Oil Cooler - K&N Panel Filter - Custom Cold Air Intake Feed - Bosch W5DPO Sparkplugs
-
Thats sounds a lot more G60 like. I forgot yours has a Schrick cam on it too doesn't it?
-
Ok scan attached. Its a bit difficult to see but it says I got 197bhp @ 6400rpm (the 8000rpm bit was crossed out). I was hoping for more to be honest as the spec of my engine is very similar to Dan's, only I have a Gas Flowed Head. Theres something odd about the printout for mine, but obviously the rollers were accurate as Dan's car has gotten exactly the same figures from another 2 Rolling roads, Stealth and AMD? Looking at the torque figure too it seems I got a max of 168lb/ft which also seems low considering the amount of work done to the engine :( Anyone got any suggestions? I never got it set up properly after fitting the SNS Stage 5 Chip, and the engine does have 160,000 on it so probably won't be as strong as it once was...
-
at what rpm did yours show mate? my results are a bit odd... apparently I made 197bhp @ 6400rpm - which is a bit odd for a G60. Can you post up your printout - Just scanning mine in now
-
I've been putting it off, but I think its about time I cleaned it

kewlwhip's seats are the nicest I've seen in a corrado - Corbeau TRS
-
The door cards swap over fine (I've had all variations in my car), I think 1 screw doesn't line up, but it doesn't really make any difference. The switches aren't interchangeable, however I don't know about the tray/speaker pods, although I can't see how it'd be difficult to change them, they're the same shape...

about 200 miles to a tank... I could probably get 300 if I drove really carefully and ran it dry
-
Mines killing me on petrol at the moment, I'm spending £40 a week to use it everyday :( Gti6 is a quick car, and the power figures don't tell the whole story at all. My mate has a Rallye which I've driven quite a bit, and raced a few times too. I can say that the G60 in standard trim wouldn't stand a chance against it, and if you were to look to buying a G60 over a VR6, I think you'd be disappointed. Good thing with the G60 is how easy the engine is to modify, and now mines making a lot more power than standard, however I'd say it takes a G60 with 190bhp+ to match a standard Rallye. VR6 is a good choice tho, and you'll fall in love with the sound 8)

One thing I have to say in favour of Fifth Gear is the fact that I'm enclined to believe what they're reporting on a little more than Top Gear. Did anyone see the supercar vs superbike episode? That was awesome to watch, seeing a motorbike getting the back end out under braking and having difficulty keeping the front end down when accellerating out of the corners! Incidently the superbike won this little battle. Compare that to the Top Gear version of Car vs Bike, where they had a porsche vs an R1, or something like that, where the guy on the bike didn't even seem like he was trying, half leaning into the corners etc. I don't know much about racing road bikes, but you can certainly tell the difference between the two pieces of footage, and the Top Gear version was set up for the car to win right from the start, it didn't prove anything. I think Top Gear tend to do this quite a lot (I seem to remember another incident where an old Jag with NOS beat a 911 in a 1/4mile drag race with a time that the 911 should have been able to easily beat as standard). Its made for entertainment, and certainly succeeds, but as a result loses credibility in my opinion. As others have said tho I still far prefer Top Gear, I find the new episodes of Fifth Gear cringe worthy, they're trying far too hard to be like Top Gear, and it now just looks like a cheap alternative with poor presenters...

I know the guy that owns Jim's old G60. He was saying he managed a 14.9 - thats with 207bhp. Pretty good I thought
-
I thought when you got belt slip it was a sudden and obvious power loss? For reference I get 1990 on the MFA - 68mm pulley and gas flowed head should make it a lower figure than yours...

Bus driver jailed for five years - is it fair!!!
Shilakadaddy replied to Andy665's topic in General Car Chat
Its difficult in cases like this to judge the crime on the outcome, or the intentions of the person in question... Unfortunately its up to the judge and jury to decide this, and often the media feeds the public an incomplete story. I haven't actually read about this incident, but it certainly doesn't sound like he deserves to go to jail for this :? -
I tend to look for vauxhalls (I've got a cavalier as a second car) - really cheap parts, especially compared to VW, and so far hasn't given me any problems at all! cost £300 from the auctions and I've been running it for a year and a half :)
-
actually I think stevemac has an early grille in a late bumper - I'll have a search...

Impressive! 8) Had you done any other mods since it was last RR'd? What was the torque?
