  1. I've had this problem before, the first thing you need to do is get a drill the same size as the tapping drill, so if it's an M6 use a 5mm drill, M8 use a 6.8 drill etc. then drill out the hole again, then when you run a tap down it follows the same threads as before, do this and you should be fine. :D
  2. Makes the new M3 look slow!!
  3. Something I hate about my wife's beemer is that if the automatic headlights are on when the automatic wipers are on, the front fog's come on and make you look like a to55er, apparently you can have this option deactivated by the dealership....Fortunately though I don't have to put myself through the trauma of going to the dealership, I can just use the light switch as a normal manual one, phew....
  4. I've been looking for a commuter car for a while now, and forgot about the 8v, I think you've got a really nice car there pal, nice one :D
  5. what in the same way a nuclear bomb just kind of gently fizzez into action? Modesty please Pete  What you meant to say was that it punches you straight up into the 'ok i might as well just overtake the whole line of cars then' point without really breaking a sweat.....and that 8 sounds sweet whils't your doing it. 8) How long will you own this one for then buddy! :D
  6. Agree, Eddie Jordan's a winner all right.
  7. Indeed.... VW went a touch wind crazy for a few years in the same way that Ford went porn mag crazy with Fiesta and Escort.... Some used by others already - eg Mistral and of course "fart" [a German verb] I'm still waiting for the Ford Razzle to come out :tumbleweed:
  8. Doh, of course, i forgot you had done that...
  9. Nice work 8) Bodywork updates are always good fun to follow, can't wait to see it finished! How does your oil cooler get air through it? Isn't it behind the bumper?
  10. Like the BBS, looked great on Ballys car, just as good on yours :D You'd regret getting the MO's if they are very heavy, you'd just get a really crashy ride...
  11. It's only a metal 'cap' over the plastic filler neck (well it is on my VR anyway) used to earth the filler nozzle to the car when you're filling up. The thing is most of them are rusted out anyway...
  12. Jaime, ...I've not bothered to save the pattern, but if you get yourself a bit of 15mm plate then you can just hack/jigsaw it out yourself, it's a square with four holes and a cutout, about an hours careful work, you can order the plate (6082 t6 aluminium) from Smiths metals online. It couldn't really be any easier, but don't forget you will need some longer bolts to bolt the stub axles back on, they are M8's. Get M8x50's if you're spacing by 15mm and they need to be 10.9 bolts minimum, I allowed extra and put nuts on the back too just to make sure! To be sure I'd measure it yourself though! I don't know about others on here, but i know many are very competent engineers, personally I trust everything I have done myself to be fit for the purpose, if I'm in any doubt I run it through a finite element analysis program just to make sure it's up to the job. I'm an automotive design engineer for the day job which helps though! Thanks for answering PT-corrado for me too :D :D
  13. i've used 15mm hubcentric spacers to clear my calipers, no clearance issues at all, and looking at your photos you should be absolutely fine. If you want on the rear you can cut up a piece of 15mm plate and drill four holes in it, then mount it between your stub axle and rear beam. This way means your bearings don't get an increased load, much cheaper, and no spacers every time you take your wheel off....
  14. I've just tested some of the sticky tape, and it does stick super strong. So I think I'm going to use sticky velcro for the centre back piece (good idea if it doesn't make a noise, i'll try it first!), and the rest will be permanently stuck, it's not like i'll ever need to recplace it, and I have some foam left over just incase I do. :D Thats a plan then cheers for the input lads! :thumb right:
  15. Yes I suppose I could, I'll look into it, might test it out. Don't laugh but I was thinking of just using some industrial double sided sticky tape! the foam has a skin on it that it would stick nicely to, Trouble is it's kind of permanent, the foam would rip taking it off.....
  16. Congratulations too!! Car tinkering has definitely taken a back burner, but i've managed to at least get the foam done on my seats after messing about with the wrong foam, still got to profile the back piece yet but it's almost done. I still haven't thought hard enough about how I'm going to hold the foam on the seat backs either, I have a few ideas on it though. Then it's time to graft the reclining mechanism off a Mk3 gti onto it, (it's escentially a rotational brake). Then finally it's off to the trimmers. I'm squaring off the seat bolsters too to match the backs.
  17. Yeah binning it is a sure way for the rust to set in, your best bet is to cut back the arches an inch or two and then push a lip seal over the exposed edge (Baines) that meets the wing further up the arch. Make sure the seal then butts up against the wing just above the arch where it's been rolled. You can help manipulate the plastic with a pair of pliers and a heat gun. You don't need to go all the way round the outside of the arch, just the bit that would rub, maybe keeping some of the perimiter fixings. Choose a seal form here.... http://catalogues.kellysearch.com/catal ... &pg=2&cn=1
  18. It's all in the aim of saving jobs, saving the car firms, and getting banks loaning money to joe public again. All a bit of a pointless excercise really, as there are only so many people who will take this offer up, when the target market runs dry, we're back to square 1 again except the taxpayers owe more money to the banks who helped us into this fine mess in the first place.....However, it does get the ball rolling again, and it may have helped. I think if I was doing it though, I'd gut the car first!
  19. They had the burner vs the stumpjumper - wall of fame on the gadget show a couple of weeks ago, the Burner won :D. Always wanted one as a kid, never got one though :-( http://fwd.five.tv/gadget-show/videos/o ... pecialised
  20. Thanks for the comments guys! I haven't even looked at the car this week we've had so many people coming round to see the baby that i haven't had a chance to get out, I thought that might be the case..... Prettey sure next week will be a bit more productive........ :D
  21. New arrival, little Mia born at 5.33am, two weeks off work, so might take the opportunity to finish off the car!IMAG0249.jpg[/attachment:1y94taee]
  22. Credit to you Coxy, get some more vids and pics up though! You need to add %30 more power to a 4wd car to get the same straight line pace where traction is not an issue, so yes you would probably be similar to an RS6 barge, until traction does become an issue! Would love to see this car in the flesh sometime. :D
