WoW  you've done loads in the last couple of months Tom, I've been on here a few times whilst I've been away but never saw any of this, good effort mate. If you need any more bodywork done pal then when the car's finished if you bring it over I can blow over it with the gun if you like? I wouldn't mind coming up anyway to check out the beastie...

I'm sorry you feel that way. I think you're being a little naieve of how the industry works. I stopped taking Evo a couple of years ago simply because I became fed up with issue after issue containing fawning articles on both the Clio 182 and the BINI. It really did get boring as they just tried to find new ways to re-road test the same bloody cars over and over again. Evo's blinkered love affair with Porsche has been in full flow since the very first issue. The photography in there is still the best in the industry but in my view both the quality or variety of the articles has deteriorated from the early years. But obviously that's only a personal opinion. I certainly got bored reading about the 182 every month, I think you'll find their blinkered love affair with porshe is more or less down to porsche's ability to produce a brilliant sportscar, same applies to recent Renaults. It's not just Evo that rate the same cars, you'll find most of the magazines do, along with much of the public.... I'd have to agree with you, it all made for prettey dull reading if you're not into Renault or Porsche though, I stopped reading it regularly a few years ago for the very same reason, bit like the days of F1 and Schuey....

Why the move back to a Corrado then?

Welcome back Jay  Edit, you probably don't remember me, you popped round my house (parents) with Asim once, bought my old G60 motor for his Mk1, never found out what happened with it though...

New/recon gearbox...what are my options? ***Updated***
KipVR replied to MonkeyVR6's topic in Drivetrain
There's a gearbox rebuild specialist near me called Gearlink Services in Alderbury, who charged me £350+VAT to recondition my gearbox. Really nice people who really know there stuff and don't charge the earth.... -
The paint depth guage will show it to be thicker there if it's been resprayed, it's only the depth of the clear coat/lacquer that matters though which a depth guage doesn't tell you. Often 80% of a new/original paint cars total paint depth will be lacquer, as the primer coats and base coat can be very thin. But then on a resprayed car with high build primers it can be the opposite.

They make the car look very up to date, very nice mate 8)

I think Corozin is prettey spot on there except for the wheels and brakes.... Personally I'd stick with 17" wheels and some AP racing brakes, but get some ducting to the back of the brakes, this makes a big diference. You can use G60/16v ducts from the front bumper to the wheel arch liner and then you'll have to custom pipe it to the back of the brakes. AP racing because there is no other brake manufacturer out there who are as reliable and experienced on the track. If you want spare parts the aftermarket service is absolutely spot on. They may not look as flash, but there performance per pound is totally unmatched. You won't have any braking problems with 330x32mm up front providing you make the car light enough. 17" wheels are lighter and cheaper, but the tyres are much cheaper, and you'll be wearing through a lot of them and the cost adds up very quickly. Take out all the glass, get a sheet of lexan fmr coated polycarbonate or similar and use this as a replacement, it'll save you a lot of weight. Take out the adjustable steering rack and put in a non adjustable item suited to yourself. Having said all this personally i'd start off with a rwd car, much more satisfying round the track. E36 or something.

Nice cars, but unreliable, like an expensive corrado.... -
You would spend a fortune doing it by rattle too!

Been looking at the Jetex three/two box system, I've always rated Jetex stuff, read a few good reviews too.

E46 330d Touring - Your Thoughts/Now Brought
KipVR replied to iow_corrado_g60's topic in General Car Chat
Just for your info, I drove down to France in the 330i, averaged 35mpg, cruising at 75mph, totally ram packed full of family and clobber. It's been averaging 26ish day to day with my other half driving just locally around town. Bear in mind it's an auto, so consumption suffers by about 15% with the GM box. It's also been re chipped to 268bhp so it's quite nippy, I can dig out the details. I've just paid £210 for tax, it's on a 53plate Sport with 18" leather etc, I paid 8.5k for it with 66K miles a few months ago, judging by autotrader at the moment that was a good price. Personally I would go for either the 320d, 330d or 330i, forget the smaller petrols but I think everone's in agreement on that anyway! The auto box I'm in two minds about but my other half loves it because it's so easy and I must admit it's really smooth. The petrol engine sounds very brutal rather than smooth which I absolutely love. You shouldn't have any problems with an auto box if it's a post 2001 car (GM box) 330i petrol engines are prettey much bomb proof, the vanos o'ring seals can perish, but there's a fairly easy DIY guide on Bimmerforum/E46 Fanatics to replace them and it's all cheap. At the end of the day, I really effing love the car, it's a really nice compramise between sensible and fun. The oil burners are great in a more practical way, and yes they almost match performance, nice buy!! Edit...Didn't see your previous post showing pics of your new car! Hope it does you well, looks like a nice purchase! -
Great, it's been deleted, sorry bud! Glad I went to all the trouble.....

So if you have plates that don't meet current regulations but aren't German, ie incorrrect font, do you still get done by pc plod? My other car has pressed (but reflective) plates with a GB badge but German font. Is that illegal?

Yeah it was me, check my old threads you'll find it somewhere!

I'm prefering Fifth Gear sometimes these days...It's improved massively, whilst Top Gear hasn't changed at all, still better than most other things on TV, and I'm totally in agreement with Clarkson's point of view just about all the time, as I think most people are....
-
I like it, very OEM, goes to show that it doesn't have to be all chrome and shiny bits to look nice X2 Personally I think it's the nicest of all of them so far.

I bought a seat arosa 1.0 for 600 pounds, it has cost me a total of 140 pounds to run it for 40k, that includes two MOT's two tyres and an oil change. Insurance this year fully comp was 118 pounds. I get lots of MPG from it and it's been totally reliable, definately wouldn't go for a deisel, as most people are finding out, they are no cheaper to run but much slower.....

There all good cars mate, the problems with the autos is just the ZF boxes- the earlier ones. The facelift GM boxes models didn't suffer. Good luck with the hunting. :D -
Wow!! I thought mine looked quite clean underneath but yours takes it to another level! Did you have any rust anywhere in the arches? Mine had a few bits and bobs but nothing too bad thank god. Glad to see the engine is more or less sorted, but what now? A few shows and a few more sunny days out? I bet you jetwashed it underneath after its rainy day out thugh! I know I would have done!

I've always loved the 993 more then any other 911, there fetching more money than early 996's and for good reason. They have a 'top second hand cars to own' review on them in this weeks Autocar if you're interested. Nice car, enjoy it!!

Nice car Pete, when I've finished the rado in August we'll have to get onto the track. :D Well soon sort the men from the boys
