  1. It had started on mine there too, caught it in good time though it wasn't too bad.

Yeah I wasn't sure either, but went for a very light coat of paint in the end, half the reason i bothered to blast it is because both Jon and I were concerned about its cooling rate with all the paint the recon guys put on it. I figured the oiling method would just make dirt stick to it, although i do intend to make an underguard at some point. Don't tell me that now!!! Oh god I hope not, I do have a friendly MOT man though... :D Yeah that olive green coating is good isn't it! A small layer of wax wouldn't hurt I suppose. Where I had an oil leak from my sump gasket oil had streaked down the underside of the car, all the bits that were covered were better off for it.
  3. Yes flexying the whole car, much cleaner routes with less unions etc. You can't replace all the bolts with stainless just the ones that aren't under any stress. The 10.9 and 12.9 bolts used for the suspension should be replaced like for like which is what I've done, cost me a fair bit from VW... Glad you like the bits pal, the carriers I did all myself, the seat backs were laser cut and folded by a company called welland in Southampton from the laser cutting files I sent them, and then welded up by a good pal of mine who welds ally very well. Other than that, all the rest is my work, must finish them though, they've been forgotten for a while until I have a bit more time to finish them... Small update again, gearbox has received some love, the recon place I took the gearbox to just before I started the conversion just slapped paint all over it really badly, so I got is shot blast having made sure all the openings were well sealed! Then I sprayed the alloy bits silver and the end cap black.

Spent all day just making up the brake lines, it took much longer than I expected it to take :( I was hoping to finish them all and leave them on the car but I had to take them home and I've just finished putting the fittings on, fiddly little job that. 2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdfIMAG0096.jpg[/attachment:jb5hj66n] Also put the tank on earlier, freshened up the straps and put stainless bolts in, just waiting for some stainless jubilee clips to arrive and then I can cross that job off the list......   5. You're best off taking it to a reputable garage to diagnose it rather than blindly replacing bits!
  6. Nang bl00dy kangs you cheeky git :lol: . There falken 452's, ok so they are midrange tyres but extremely well reviewed. Bit sad really but I have to keep having a look at them, glad I did them silver now, I think red wouldn't have looked right on the car at all for the image I'm after.

A friend of mine and I were going to start up a company doind exactly that, and run courses to generate more income, but the set up costs involved and the insurance was huge we just couldn't make the business model look good enough, but I'm glad someone has made it work, hopefully they will put one up here!! :D

You're on iffy ground with the higher milers, the diesels are not the most reliable of units though very economical, go onto e46 fanatics (mainly americans though) or bimmerworld.co.uk forums and you'll see. I ended up buying a 330i petrol touring and if you drive it sensibly you get 30mpg out of it. Petrols cheaper, the engines are reliable and unstrained, and very easy to work on. Parts are about the same as a corrado for basics, 250 for new discs and pads and sensors all round (oe manufacturers) but the general feel of the car is rock solid. I love the little touches, like the keys have their own chip in them, so if my wife gets into the car all the air con, radio, seats, mirrors adjust to her settings, when you put it into reverse the ns mirror dips so you can see the kerb, the rear glass on the rear hatch opens seperatly, the list goes on. They are truly excellent cars and very glad I chose one over the A4 equivalent.

  11. Use this bluetooth FM transmitter!! http://direct.motorola.com/hellomoto/t505/ I've got one and it's brilliant. I keep the phone in my pocket, it links to the T505 which then transmits to the car radio. Call qualitly is excellent, music is as good as standard FM radio, you can control your phone via the unit and there are no wires at all, unless you want to plug it in to your charger of course, and it's also relitevely cheap.
  12. I bought a silverline rotary for £42 with a few pads thrown in, I've now done 8 cars with it and it's still going strong, you would have to go through four of them to match the price of the Makita! Seems well made too.

  14. Ring around a few of the bigger breakers and ask them, try the DVLA maybe, insurance companies....ebay!!
  15. You'll find a 3.2 Audi A3 or TT is cheaper than an R32 and is just as usable (if not more) and a slightly more powerful engine. A complete car usually costs about 4.5K, you can make a lot of the money back by selling all the parts you don't need, like the interior, glass body panels etc. Probably half of the purchase cost but it might take a while to shift all the bits. I know it's a large initial outlay but it'll work out cheaper and easier in the long run. Getting everything from one car makes the process MUCH easier. And you can nick all the little clips and stuff you wouldn't get if you bought the stuff independently, and you also have a live donor that shows just where everything goes etc. If I was doing my conversion again, this is how I would have done it.

The easiest thing to do is find a written off 3.2 Audi or golf which are all 4wd, take all the components off it and mount them onto the Corrado, brakes, ABS, engine, gearbox, dash etc. you will have to do a little modding but it's all easily possible. By transferring all the components over it actually makes the wiring easier in a lot of ways. You are escentially re-shelling a modern car.

If you're going to do all that, you may as well fit haldex from the start pal, there are conversion kits avaliable from places like dutchdub to accomodate the haldex diff, have a seach for yeti's thread on here, he's doing the conversion on here but there are a few others who have also done it, plus there is a stickied 4wd thread. I wouldn't even bother with the syncro stuff, it was never very good.

  21. Hey I've seen your car too Bruny, looks just as impressive if you ask me! Nice to see it original too. Thanks Timmy, I'm really enjoying putting it back together all clean, hopefully I'll have both sets of brakes, lines, and ABS unit on tomorrow....but I've got to get my Arosa through the MOT and finish restoring a friends 323 so may not have time......
  22. Bolted the fuel tank up today, also made some 10mm stub axle spacers to push the rear wheels out to match the fronts (spaced to clear the brembos). So I just got some 6082T6 ally plate, cut it to 85x80mm square, then clamped them on one side and spotted through, drilled four holes and that's it! Gonna have to get them anodized though.....
