  1. very neat! Looks good... 8)
  2. glad this is sorted now... 8) What makes you think the waterpump's gone though?
  3. yup, sounds to me like your ISV has been playing silly beggars, or you have an air leak somewhere... :|
  4. yup, bet it jumped about 4 teeth... valvers will run 2 or 3 teeth out, but don't like it when you go above that...
  5. were they fitted to exactly the same age and type of Corrado? There are differences between VR6 and the others, and early and late models too which may affect wheel fitment...
  6. oooh, they gotta make that, it's fecking lovely! 8)

nah, I've just bypassed the cache for the forum... ;) I don't think IT know about it yet though... ;)  [/geek too]

ah, that'll be the giant Capital Radio Group cache system which doesn't half pay havok with this forum at times!
  9. yeah, I think that's it... I'm not too hot on the 2.0 'cos I've never had one... It should be a black 2 pin connector on it, and I think there's a blue one the same close to it too... I'm sure someone who actually knows will clarify this by correcting or agreeing with me! 8)
  10. more antifreeze would cause the temps to go up slightly. A small leak will de-pressurise the system which means that the coolant isn't as efficient as when it's pressurised so that'd add a couple of degrees onto the temps too... also, when did you last change the coolant temp sensor? It's possible that they dried out as you did the waterpump and have gone a little titsup since... may be worth slinging a new one in as they're only a few quid... 8)
  11. is this a straight red, or a metallic/pearlescent? If it's straight red (it'll be Flash if it's a '94) you can still get the touch up pens from VAG which will be a bloody good match... Get a primer pen from somewhere like Halfords and put a layer of that into the scratch, then a few thin layers of the touch up... build it up until it's slightly proud and then buff it back with a good quality cutting compound and you should be able to get it to dissapear! 8) (at least, that's how I did it on my first Tornado red Corrado ;) )
  12. sounds about right there for VW Supercharged...

    digi dash

problem with 'em is that the brackets they mount on are Digifiz only, and you need the complete wiring loom, gearbox sender, clocks and a couple of other bits (IIRC) to get it to fit into a Golf... Apparently they're then not all that reliable, and even VDO don't do spares for 'em... :| If one goes wrong, you're stuffed... :?

depends if it's agreed value or not... Normally they go off the glasses guide price, but they're sh!t and well under what these are going for, so print out some Autotrader ads and some off here so that if they start getting arsey, you can prove to 'em that the car is worth well over the £2K that glasses say it's worth... ;)

    It's time!!!

you may also want to consider sticking a new Dizzy on the list too... the odds are that the hall sender in the one you've got will be on it's way out, so it's as well to do it now unless you've recently had one... ;) Sounds like it's gonna be a good 'un then, good luck! 8) If you need any advice, you know how to get hold of me... ;) 8) OOPS! Almost forgot... HEAD BOLTS, Con-rod cap bolts + Nuts and drive shaft bolts and a MKI Golf (DX engine code) crank bolt and washer!

    1) depends on what chip you are going to be running, but I'd say yes to the injectors, and maybe (depending on chip) to the FPR 2) YES, although you may need to get it custom mapped on a rolling road to ensure that you're running at the optimum for your new engine... budget around £300 for a rolling road remap (http://www.chipwizards.co.uk gets a HUGE plug from me! ;) ) 3) Ask G-man, or get 'em off ebay 4) Euro or GSF for bearings, gaskets and seals. Buy a full headset from VAG or GSF (make sure if it's GSF they supply the metal one!) and a full block set from either euro or GSF... 5) change the 3 plastic water parts (front of head, side of head and thermostat housing) the water pump (GSF) oil pump (only use VAG or uprated!), oil sump, and oil cooler... probably worth lobbing a set of tappets in too while you're doing the cam. Oh, and you'll need the splash guard from VAG when you change the oil pump 'cos the old one WILL break as you try to remove it...
  18. right, if it's not an exhaust note there are 4 other common noise areas on the 1.8 16V to be aware of. 1) Cambelt tensioner (as kerrinmay, points out) 2) Waterpump - you'd tend to notice this as they tend to spring a leak when they go 3) alternator bearings - put a screwdriver tip on the outer casing while the engine is running and then put your ear to the handle. This acts as a stethoscope so you can work out if it's the alternator making the noise... (TAKE CARE! This can project a LOT of noise straight into your ear, so put the screwdriver onto the alternator first and then put your ear near to the handle, not the other way around! Oh, and make sure you get the screwdriver the right way around!!! ;) ) 4) There's an idler pulley on SOME 1.8 16Vs which one of the belts (I think it's the P/S belt) goes around and is attached to the waterpump. There's a thin brass insert which acts as a bearing inside the idler pulley which breaks down and causes one hell of a noise when it dies... not difficult to change, but the part is slightly painful to buy from VAG... Hope this helps! 8)
  19. Welcome to the forum, but PLEASE TURN OFF YOUR CAPS LOCK!  If the engine's just suddenly got a lot louder, I'd go with a blowing exhaust being the problem. Star Performance gets good reviews from all the Scottish people on here, but I have no idea where they are...
  20. 2a for the nice area where I now live, 1B for where I used to be a student and had my car broken into 4 times in 2 years... Proof that insurance companies know feck all...

Good luck mate... seems that there's a lot of us having insurance problems at the moment... :|
  22. PROTEST! Send 'em a copy of the Dubforce/PVW article, and copies of all of your receipts... they'll up the offer you get from 'em by quite a bit (I got 3.5K for mine after the inital offer of £2083!) and then buy it back and sling a second hand wing and door on it and use it as a "this is a cheap bit of fun" car... That's what I'm doing with J-DUB anyway! ;) Bummer to hear it's been bent though mate... what happened?
  23. Please confirm this is OK with you The Hub, so that Tempest doesn't end up stuck with a set of lights... 8) Cheers (PM sent too! ;) )
  24. erm, brown's normally earth on a VW... :|
  25. that was the bitter voice of experience from me... ;) Gearshift on J-DUB was bobbins until I put that clip on! 18months I put up with it for...  Glad you got it sorted mate... 8)
