VR6, you're wrong... It was Basil Fawlty beating up his red Austin...
-
yup, that sounds about right for those things! 8)
-
AndyVR6, spot on mate... problem is not many people do that, so the cone is in the enginebay sucking in nice hot air from around the engine which defeats the object entirely...

the 1.8 16V CAN'T be chipped. There is a small ECU there which just controls basic timing, but can't control anything like the ammount of parts needed to be able to "chip" a car... You can install something like a K-STAR system which will add some facilities onto the K-Jetronic Mechanical Fuel Injection system your car uses, but they're thin on the ground now..

basil_fawlty, (Dr_Mat) my new Grey G60 doesn't have ABS either... I thought that all G60s had ABS until I bought one that didn't! I've gotta say though that I reckon the non ABS brakes are a damn sight better than the ABS ones I had on J-DUB before I brembo'd her... No idea why though... :| :? Can't wait to see what she's like when I DO add the brembos though!

have a word with Cheesy. He's just done this and had similar problems... It's probably dead simple to cure... 8)
-
capnahab, why would you HAVE to go 4x4? (I'm not planning on it if I plonk one in J-DUB... ;) )
-
check that you've not knocked one of the vacuum pipes off the bottom of the airbox. Also, have you had the CO emissions setup? The new metering head won't be setup to run efficiently with the rest of your injection system so may be running rich... 8)

A dead/dying ignition switch shouldn't make it difficult to turn the key, although it IS possible as it is linked to the parts that turn with the key (obviously!) The odds are that your lock itself has also worn. SteveMac did a "how to" including part numbers on how to change the complete ignition switch and lock. The parts aren't very expensive and it'll cure your problems with the key and rule out the ignition switch as your problem.

Hocuspocus, odds are that the fan motor is now utterly knackered and the bushes are totally dead which is why it's no longer working. New fan (or a second hand one out of a MKII golf) will sort that out along with a thermal fuse (About 50p from Maplin electronics) and you'll have a 4 speed fan once more... 8) Oh, and welcome to The Forum... 8)

yup, with Kev here, phone Stealth! 8) £1200 = taking the peeeeeeee..... I paid that for a second hand VR6 gearbox and then a rebuild with a Quaife LSD fitted from Stealth! (gearbox was sourced from here thanks to PhatVR6)

eh? It's do-able and won't take long, but you WILL catch yourself a couple of times getting it out... Give it a go, it may be easier in your car than it was in mine... 8)

  She's only 6 years older than me, and she doesn't have any kids... well, apart from the couple of hundred at her school! I think it was the fact she's a deputy headmistress at a primary school which made some of the difference as she's seen to be respectable, responsible and not a big risk... 8)

it's a lever out carefully jobbie... prepare to swear and have some plasters handy for the nicks, cuts, bruises and blood blisters that will ensue... :| The only good news is that it seems to go back IN a damn site easier... :|
-
rear shocks are MKII golf...

keep a ref's whistle next to the phone... When they phone up and start getting pushy, blow the whistle as loud as you can down the phone at 'em... ;) I'll guarantee they'll have hung up by the time you get the phone back to your ear and won't dare to call back again! ;)

thread cleaned up as requested.

didn't block the hole at the front of the airbox, I used that to get part of the pipe in... ;)
-
Gav, I did say MOST... I know you're good, I wouldn't be buying wiring looms off you if you weren't! ;) I know a couple of other good places too... ;) p.s. are you still doing alarms? I may need one on my new G60 as the one that's on it is doing my head in... :|
-
sounds like most alarm installers I've come across...

I don't know of anyone who supplies bearings WITH disks as a normal thing. Most places that sell the disks can get the bearings though... ;) Don't forget to get the new ABS cages too else you'll have a bright orange light inside your nice interior to annoy the hell out of you!
-
I cut the corner of the box off too and then ran a flexible tumble dryer vent tube from the corner, through the hole and down to the bumper... worked really well too! 8) Don't know of a better way (and a cone IS NOT a better way! ;) ) but may have a play with my new car soon as I take off the CC and sling it in the bin... ;) 8)

wasn't in Liecester was it? I looked at one there 2 years ago being sold by a "trader" down from his front garden which was utter crap. Bald tyres all around, curbed wheels, no SH, knackered sunroof, crap condition leather/interior and didn't run properly... I didn't even test drive it and had a right go at the bloke selling it for even asking if I wanted to test it 'cos of the downright dangerous tyres on it... :|

You've got the mechanical milage counter haven't you? (only one LCD screen on the clocks) The cable you're on about is the speedo cable. There should be a part of the white connector which has ridges on it (you should be able to turn the white connector by hand until you find the bit with ridges on it.) SQUEEZE this ridged bit HARD and pull straight back from the clocks and the cable will come off. It's got a locking clip on it and the bit with ridges is the release mechanism... ;) 8)

Neverite, take the passenger door card off and check for voltage at the window's motor. If you have power there, you have a dead motor (not uncommon) If you don't have power, it's either a wiring fault from the control box, or the control box itself at the back as BigEastsideVWG60, says... 8)
