  1. Blue_Joe, I know yours is a single strut, I edited my post as you were posting your reply, as I realised it could have caused confusion... sorry... Show us a pic of the actual strut, as well as the fitting kit... 8) (need to see both ends ;) )
  2. gibber_2k, is yours the single strut lifter which basically replaces the original bonnet stay? If it is, then yes, you have! (my memory is a bit crap at the moment, sorry  ) coolrado, the original stay hold the bonnet on one side only, so what's the difference? You can use MKIII golf twin lifters if you want (£20 from Euro or GSF) but you need to drill and tap 2 holes into the side of the bonnet to fit 'em...
  3. yup, sounds like the blue temp sender to me too... 8)
  4. that looks like the kit I had with the lifter I bought from Inters'03... Is it an INXX kit? The black metal stip goes inside the bracing struts on the bonnet, then the silver bit bots to that. The bottom of hte lifter should have a threaded ball type affair on it which then attached (with a nut and 2 of the large washers) the the hole just to the left of where the original bonnet support attaches to the slam panel... 8) This is all from memory, as I never fitted mine 'cos my Corrado had the later bonnet and so it wouldn't fit properly...

    Slam Panel

yup, there's about 10 x 10mm headed bolts and then it just comes off, but you do need to take off the bumper, grill, lights and the plastic air guides around the radiator as well as disconnecting the bonnet release cable to get it out... 8) If you're good with a spanner and know where the bolts are, you should be able to get the old one off in a couple of hours... 8)
  6. dr_mat, it's not been a hard smack... the problem is that it's taken the powersteering rack and bent the arms, which are silly money, it's also damaged the sub-frames where they ran along the curb so they need replacing. The bodyshop had it on their jig and said it would be absolutely spot on just with new bolt on parts... 8) I know what you're saying though, but if you saw the actual damage, you'd understand what I mean... Watch out for the photos of the strip down... ;) 8)
  7. Nah, the PVW article proves that she was a good motor... after all, she's 6th fastest in their hall of fame for Corrados and was second fastest on the day to 60, even in the wet! That shows time, effort and commitment as well as being a serious member of the VW scene and the Corrado owning clan! 8)
  8. GIXXERUK, got it in one mate! ;) She's just taking a rest for a while to let the rest of you catch up to her milage! The damage isn't actually that much... it's just that the parts that are damaged are either Corrado only, (and so fecking expensive) or just fecking expensive...  I reckon I could put her back on the road with a little bit of luck in finding the parts second hand for about £500 and she'd be as good as she was before... the problem is that she's now a CAT C write off G60, so, unless I do something REALLY different to her, there's no point in me putting her on the road as, in the eyes of an insurance company and most people wanting to buy a Corrado, she'd be worth less than book value, even though everyone here knows what kinda money I've put into her... However, if I do something a little different and do a full photo rebuild just using the shell, the kinda people who'd either buy it, or insure it, won't give a damn about any insurance certifications! ;) :D
  9. get some good quality DOT5.1 from Halfords... (it's labelled as "high performance brake fluid" and is in a black container with orange writing on it ;) ) DOT5.1 is the best you can get for a Corrado and will happily mix with any other fluid that is already in your system with no problems and means you can rest assured that if anything, you're topping up with BETTER fluid than is already in there! 8) There's a manual by Robert Bentley that can be bought off Amazon, but beware that it's about £80 ish! It's also an american book, so it's not quite spot on for our cars, but is closer than anything else out there... It also comes on CD too... 8) Oh, and please excuse my manners... Welcome to The Forum! 8)

    MOT FAILURE

I'd have said that your lambda sensor or possibly coolant temp sensor is probably dead and it's that which is causing your car to fail it's emissions...
  11. wait for the next incarnation of her in a couple of years time... ;) I've had a few ideas kicking around on what I could do with a cheap, engineless Corrado for a while, and J-DUB could well end up being the perfect base for something a little different... ;)
  12. What you trying to say Kev?!?  Inca blue was a one year colour IIRC... Available 91/92 so only 1.8 16V and G60s.... 8)
  13. I'm sad to say that J-DUB will not be hitting the road again anytime soon... I've got to get myself mobile again (and preferably in another Corrado not this sodding Punto hire car!) so I'll be fighting to get enough money out of the insurance company so I can buy myself a nice standard(ish! ;) ) Corrado G60 similar to how J-DUB was when I first got her 2 years ago... 8) I've a STACK (about 1/2 an inch thick!) of for sale adverts showing that you can't get a good J-plate Corrado G60 for less than around 3.5K off here, Dubforce and autotrader, a stack of receipts totalling around 8K and a stack of photocopies of the Performance VW article she was in as well as the Stealth Rolling road figures and timing slips from Santa-Pod which are being sent to the insurance company in the next day or so.... 8) I've also informed 'em I'm a moderator here and on Dubforce and that the car is VERY well known and worth over book price anyway, so I'll be fighting for a reasonable sum for her... I'm fully aware that I screwed up with the agreed value thing and so won't get anywhere near what she's actually worth, but at least I've bought her back, and there's nothing damaged that I've actually replaced  All the work I've done can be removed and put onto my next Corrado with only limited effort and loosing me only a small amount of money as I can do it on my own and should be able to do it while still using the car everyday... 8) (I screwed up by assuming that when the girl on the phone I spoke to said that it was OK for me to wait until the car was re-sprayed in November to get the engineer's report and valuation done, that she actually knew what she was talking about and was representing the insurance company... from now on I'll be recording EVERY phone conversation with the insurance company in one of the studios I work in! ) I'm not killing J-DUB off totally by scrapping her though... She'll be back eventually, and may even be somewhat sillier than last time!  It'll take a while, but should be worth a giggle in the mean time... She may even end up as one of the cheapest Corrados on the scene! ;) Thanks all for your kind words, help and advice on this, it is, as always, much appreciated and respected... 8) Ian...
  14. unlucky mate... that's a shit of a road (used to blat down it in J-DUB quite a lot) but it does look like you actually got off quite lightly for a crash there... :| Main thing is that you're OK, and that no-one was hurt... 8) Shame to see another 'rado dead though... :(
  15. 1) the bulb in the glovebox will only work with the ignition (and lights IIRC) on, so check that first, and then check the bulb. The one behind the heater dials will be the bulb... 2) spare parts are available from LOTS of different places, don't know of any servicing places in London, but you could try John down at JMRacing (16VG60 on this forum) who's down in Rustington and is exceptional with Corrados... 8) 3) As long as this space saver fits over the brakes you have, it should be fine to use as an emergency spare... don't go over 45mph, don't expect the car to handle properly or brake anywhere near as well as on 4 good wheels, but at least it'll get you home! 8) 4) Coolant should be VWs own G12+. The coolant in the handbook will say G11, but this has now been replaced with G12+ by VW. It's important that you get G12+, not just standard G12 as the non-plus stuff won't mix with your existing coolant and may well end up causing a lot of damage to your engine. Welcome to The Forum... 8)
  16. Well, if anybody who's been following the corrado vs MKIII golf thread, you'll have heard by now that J-DUB has been officially written off... :( It's been a good 2 years with her, allbeit somewhat costly and filled with some bad luck, but I have no regrets for anything I did with her during that time and had more laughs and fun than with any other car I could have bought at the time... Time to move on now though, I'm after another Corrado now to enjoy and use the knowledge I've picked up with J-DUB to create something even more special and a little better... 8) Thanks for all the comments, help and nice words over the last 2 years, Oh, and don't think I've given up on J-DUB... I've bought her back and she may well see the roads again, just in a slightly different guise and with a different powerplant... ;) 8) Keep watching folks, things may just get a little sillier!

    speedo needle jumps

yup, had this exact thing on my G60 not long after I got her... Mine was cured after I stripped the clocks down and replaced the lighting in 'em to change the colour... I'm guessing it was a dodgy connection either in the wiring to the clocks, or on the gauge itself... either way, it's sorted out now and was so much better afterwards... 8)
  18. yup, you are right Mat, The light just shows that the load balance is correct and the alternator is providing power rather than the battery... 8)
  19. I have my car back now, so I'll have a look at my block tonight to see if I can work out what it's for... 8)
  20. with Gav on this one... Check the fluid level first, especially as you say it does it under acceleration when the fluid will be sloshing around and causing the sensor to mis-read slightly... John's point is also well worth checking out too... 8)
