    Porous Sump

nah, dr_mat, it's a reasonably common thing on 4 Cylinder VWs that if they've had a head gasket go in their past, the sump starts to rust slightly from the inside and eventually becomes porus and lets oil through it even though it's mechanically sound and intact (ie no holes) SteveM16v, Sumps are around £20 from GSF and the gasket is about £8 It's not a technically difficult job to do, but you will need some time as it's fiddly and you have to be VERY careful not to cross thread the bolts putting the new one back on... the ones by the gearbox are especially little gits! ;) :? I'd guess at around 2 hours to do it at home from car intact to running again) if you're any good and have done similar before, an hour or so longer if not... 8) procedure is: Drop oil as per oil change. Pput the sump plug back in (stops it dripping on you as you're working on it! ;) ) Remove the gearbox inspection/guard plate cover on the bottom of the box (the little bit which allows you to be able to take the gearbox off and keeps the crud outta the clutch ;) ) Remove the 10mm bolts in around the sump. Crack 'em off first so they're all loose and then remove in an alternate pattern fashion ie, one from one side, then one from the opposite side working around the sump. Remove the sump and old gasket and clean up the bottom of the block to make sure it's clean and will seal nicely on the new gasket. Refitting is the reverse of removal [/haynes] only will involve lots more swearing and tired arms! ;) Replace the oil filter and put the sump bung into the new sump Fill up with oil as per an oil change Done... 8) Hope this helps... 8)
  4. I'm with you on that one Scott and Dazzy... 8)
  5. yeah, but it costs double what the Ibiza setup costs! :?

    Design 90's

it IS PaulG60's car... (and it IS very nice with some very nice details... 8) ) Be very careful which adaptors you buy for these wheels Chris... some of them are utter crap and should not be used IMHO... :|

    tyre sizes

I run 204 45 16 on my 7.5J rims and they're spot on with the speedo being pretty much accurate through the whole speed range... (tested on GPS as being 5mph UNDER reading at every speed between 30 and 120 mph due to me not putting the needle back on properly ... :? ) I wouldn't have thought that there would be a problem running the same on an 8J wheel, although a 215 40 16 may be better due to the extra 1cm width in the tyre... I suppose it depends on how flush you are feeling 'cos I'd bet that 40 profile tyres are sodding expensive! :?

    RS front bumper

before you start to fit it, make sure that the indicators and fogs will go in the holes... :? The fibreglass bumpers vary soooo much in quality that even some of the better makes have to be severely hacked to bits to get the lights to fit and then to fit on the car properly... That's why I wanted a plastic one like the Rieger one I eventually bought (but may now be getting rid of) 8)
  9. They wings bolt on in exactly the same way, but it'd look silly 'cos then you'd have one wide wing, and one early narrow wing... :? Possible? Yes... Good idea? no... ;)
  10. the other way of fitting Brembo 305s to the VR6 is to get hold of some custom bell and disk sets so you can choose the offest of the disk, PCD etc to make sure they fit perfectly... This is how John Mitchell (16VG60) has done it on his G60 as they also have the added advantage of being significantly lighter than the genuine Seat disks which weigh a ton! 8) I'm pretty sure if you asked John, he could get hold of a set of 5x100 disks of this style made up to fit with the Brembos on a VR6... 8) ;)
  11. Having seen this in the flesh at the Birmingham motor show, I wasn't too impressed... The Audi A3 Convertable looked nicer... It could also be very easily be confused with a Toyota Avensis convertable (if one existed) and many other cars of that style... Ah! That's what it was, it lacks style and individuality! ;)
  12. where are you based kieron? I may be interested in this as a quick mad little project has just sprung into my head.... ;) :D
  13. You mean these ones? ;) 8) (Pic taken at Birmingham Motorshow)
  14. I'd go with low brake fluid... check it and top it up if needed (don't fill it to the top though, as when you next change the pads you'll overflow it as you push the pistons back in! ;)
  15. You'd be suprised how much the engine will throw itself forwards under engine braking! :? The rear engine mount is NOT just a compression mount, it's as dynamic as the other mounts in the job it has to do... I'm now looking into a full set of uprated mounts to keep my engine in check after seeing just how much it was moving around in the engine bay on the rollers on its brand new VAG mounts...
  16. although, as said before, the bonnets ARE the same width, so you can just swap 'em over with no problems... 8)
  17. I'd agree that this is a fantastic mod to do.... Final drive is easy to do while the box is in bits anyway so may be worth considering for the small extra it'll cost you... 8) If you've never done a gearbox before, it's definately not a DIY job... Gearboxes are the one part of the car I won't mess with (unless I know it doesn't ever have to go back in a car again! ;) ) as they are sooo easy to mess up... I got mine played with by Vince at stealth and am sooooo happy with the results... 8) Mine came in at around £1200 including a second hand box to take the VR ratios out of (cheers PhatVR6!), the Quaife LSD, all new seals and bearings and the labour... 8) Well worth the money it cost... :) 8)
  18. that'd be the ultimate irony wouldn't it... breaking down in a break down truck!
  19. 8) just glad you got it sorted mate... :D

    G60

nope, my valver never had one, and I've never seen one on a VR, but, like I say, 7 of the cars I test drove had them... :?
  21. 's alright mate... :) Connect the RED on the multimeter to the black wire on the wiring for the switch. Connect the BLACK on the multimeter to earth on the car somewhere... (the bolts which hold the steering column on are a good place to try, or find the end of a thick BROWN wire as this will be an earth... 8) You should read around 12V then... 8)
  22. you can get 'em less than that... you're looking about 4K for a second hand one with interstellar milage... ;) Thinking of getting myself one 'cos of the number of times my C has broken down in the last year... :?

    G60

All 7 of the cars I test drove had one there when I was looking for mine... 8)
  24. Clarion TV head unit with TV tuner installed elsewhere, Clarion 6 disk CD changer, Centurion DVD player, JBL component speakers up front and JBL 6x4 speakers in the rear as well as an Infinity Basslink in the boot. Wireless camera receiver with camera built into my radio controled car... 8) To be added: Colour camera built into the rear VW badge PC running Mediacar software to replace DVD player due to getting annoyed with the user interface on the one I've currently got...

    G60

coullstar, Awesome get theirs from Trimsport! ;) BigEastsideVWG60, there should be a rectangular G60 badge on the lower left corner of the glovebox lid on a G60... it's the same as the one on the rear of the car IIRC... See here for a pic of where mine is...
