  1. I went with a totally different route to the normal 16V conversion... I junked all of the electronic part of the KE jet-tronic and slung a Seat Ibiza 1.5 dizzy on instead! :? I then got this re-weighted so that the advance curve was about right for the car/engine and just had the 16V running with the standard MKI injection system using the 16v metering head and injectors... Oh, and that silly Weber 63mm single choke throttle body I had helped too! A normal cap fitted on mine, but it was easier to use the pug one...
  2. The mesh came with it... Plan is to get the engine rebuilt and in the car this fortnight over xmas that I'm off work... 8) I don't think I'll be able to get it running due to lack of intercooler (Hopefully it'll be on it's way soon!) but the plan is to have her finished (including paint) before the 22nd Feb so that I can take her to DubFreeze... 8) This may slip slightly though... we'll see...
  3. I'll move this to "Tuning and Mods" as it's not really anything to do with bodykits... 8)
  4. That's kinda the hope!  8)
  5. I still stand next to a comment that I made a few years ago that the very late 70's and 80's produced some of the best cars in the world ever, that have yet to be bettered... MKI 1800 Golf GTI MKII 16V Golf GTi Audi UR Quattro Porsche 911 Turbo Lancia Delta Integrale Corrado Unfortunately they also produced some of the worst as well... but I'm not gonna go near that topic! :? What I would have liked to have seen on TopGear tonight, was the MKI Golf GTI against the rest of 'em around a track... THAT would have been interesting... 8)
  6. Use a Peugeot 205 1.1 dizzy cap... It's a standard fit, but is side exit so clears the master cylinder with no problems... 8) don't ask how long it took me to find that out when I built my MKI 16V! :?
  7. I don't think it was aimed at you specifically Dubster, it's just that the two of you have been dragging THIS thread off topic tonight and it looked like you were about to start in this one with the same too! :?
  8. Funny, I was just thinking the same thing...
  9. More toys! 8) Ok, fairly big plastic body bits this time, but kinda toys anyway...  This should be the end of the toys buying part of this build... apart from the odd nut and bolt and the intercooler from Darren (G-Man) I've now got all of the bits to put my baby back together! 8) YAY!!!!!! :D :D :D ** Mod Edit - deleted some off topic posts - ME! **
  10. Radar detector wins every time... Unfortunately the new digital ones can see in the dark and don't need radar or lasers which kinda screws up all of the normal detectors unless you slow down for all of 'em like a road angel tells you to do... Road angel makes too many beeps for my liking... :? Avoid the radar/laser ones with a normal detector and ignore the digital ones with my new thing (if it works!  )
  11. Unless my little invention is proven to work... In which case Digital speed cameras won't be able to see your number plates and so can't get you! 8) I've had it looked into by a load of lawyers and it's legal (as the letter of the law stands at the moment), I've just gotta get hold of a speed camera to prove it works... Not easy!  I'm building a couple of prototypes at the moment, so keep watching, you guys will be the first to be offered it! 8)
  12. Both the one from the +ve of the battery AND the red wire from the alternator connect to the same place on the starter motor! That's why you don't remember where it came from... :? 8) The earth cable should bolt onto the gearbox and go straight to the battery via a connection onto the bodywork at the battery tray, then there should be the wire to the solenoid (black with a red tracer IIRC) and the 2 red wires which go onto the starter motor on the large threaded bar with a 13mm nut holding them on... 8) Hope this helps... 8)
  13. Right, I've got the bumper now and it does seem to be quite well made... It doesn't look like it mounts on to the iron work exactly how the original did, and it's an RS4 style one, so has the exit grilles on the following edges of it. I'm not overly impressed with the finishing of the edges where it's been cut, but they won't take long to sand down... 8) Rieger have got a picture in their catalogue, it was just me being thick, the only difference between the one in the picture below and the one I just bought is that mine's plastic, not fiberglass... (yeah, and it's not yellow or fitted to a car yet either...  ) It's all dark, wet and horrible outside at the moment, but I'll post up as I fit this to my car and let you know how good / bad the fit is... 8)

    Hello

ey-up! Welcome to the Forum... nice looking G40 you've got there... 8)
  15. Wasn't mine then.... no wheels on my motor...
  16. My exhaust system (downpipe back at the time) wasn't that much louder than a standard exhaust until you got it to around 3K rpm when she starts to howl nicely up to about 3.5K (that's what I wanted!). Motorway cruising was definately not noisy at all.... 8) Inside the car it's not that much louder than a standard exhaust at pretty much the whole rev range... I think that my Dad summed it up when he dropped me off to pick it up after having the system made... He said, "Nice, that lets you know it means it without being in your face" 8) Give 'em a call and chat to them, they're a good bunch... 8)

    16v thermostat

In the bottom of the waterpump... 8) If you need to replace it, make sure you replace the housing too, as it's plastic and has a nasty habit of cracking once it's been removed to change the thermostat. Also change the seal as well!
  18. Yeah, but it's not just valve caps that they've been messing with... The shop next to my house is empty at the moment, and some clever sod decided that it'd make a good bonfire in November... Fortunately they were spotted breaking in and trying to light it, so it never actually went up in flames... :? I know who's doing all of the petty crime on the carpark at the back of my house, I just want evidence so I can persue it in legal chanels... If that doesn't work, I'll simply "publish" the photos around the town and let the local mob culture deal with it...  Most of it's just time and effort to get the system up and running... I've got all of the cameras and stuff anyway from an old CCTV system I ripped out of a previous place I worked, so most of it's cost me nothing!
  19. The next mod I'm doing when I've got my C running again is being done to my garage...  CCTV camera linked into my PC with a motion detector linked to my website and email. The alarm and camera are also going to be linked into a mobile phone so I can trigger it remotely (and reset it too!) and it'll message me with a photo onto my picture phone! 8) That'll scare the $#![ outta them if they try messing around anywhere near my garage, car or house!  I'd like to stick a speaker phone in there too so I can shout at them even if I'm at work!   It's gonna take some work to get it all going, but it should be worth it if I can get a photo of the little sods that keep messing about at the back of my house! 8)
  20. yeah, the metal ones I had on my G60 went walkies within a week or so of it being sat on the drive at my parents before I managed to get it back to my house... Next ones I get will be the locking ones that you need an allen key to get off! 8)
  21. Have a word with JP exhausts in Macclesfield... They did a full custom system for my G60 for about £350 all in... They do a lovely job, and give you a choice of loudness with it... I'm sure they'd do you a backbox for a reasonable amount... It'll also have a lifetime guarantee as long as you own the car... 8)
  22. Hey, BevisJem? I just downloaded the instructions and wanna check something before I start calling some of my suppliers... 8) On the wiring harness, there's a brown wire and a black wire... The BLACK wire is the earth. The brown wire should not be connected to anything and should be insulated so that it cannot touch earth... This brown wire is the telephone mute and will kill the speaker outputs, but, according to how you've set the menu options, not neccesarily the Amp outputs, IE, exactly what you say yours is doing... :? Just do me a favour and make sure this is correct before I start calling people... 8)
  23. I know  :D Usually it's the late controls that fail, so when people hear about heater cogs, they instantly assume it's that same fault... By clearing up that you have the 2 lever, one dial style controls, people now know that the fault is with the distribution box not the controls and you stand a better chance of getting the bits/help you need... 8) I don't know enough about the heating on 'rados to help much more, but I can safely say that you'll not have too much problem getting hold of the heater routing section of the system out of a broken car which should be in good condition, as the earlier heaters don't tend to break (which was what my first reply was about!  ) Good luck! 8)
  24. I'll be there, just I don't think that J-Dub will make it along with me... It'll be a close run thing if she's ready or not... :? I don't really see the point of rolling roading my 1.6 driver!
  25. bcstudent IIRC it is the same on a MKI.. You'll have to forgive my naff memory on this one... It's 5 years since my MKI moved under it's own steam! My memory isn't what it once was...  Dazz, it's worth checking this wire if you can find one before stripping out the dash! 8)
