But they're my favourite bits! Hence why you drive a Corrado rather than a plastic coated newer car... 8)

I got an interesting Chufty yesterday... Driving through the M60 roadworks at 40mph with a VERY obvious marked police car behind me trying to make me do 45-50 through the speed traps  Obviously I sat at 40 (like always ;) ) through the whole roadworks right until the end sign, where I dropped it into 3rd and booted it leaving said police car looking like it was stood still... into 5th at 70 and pulled over to the left lane to pull off the motorway... police car catches me up at the traffic lights on the slip road, looks over, grins, nods and mouths "goes as well as it looks then..." then drove off when the lights went green... One of these days I'm gonna come a cropper playing with police cars like that...

there's a couple of sets of gauges on Ebay at the moment, and there's also a couple of senders alone on there too... ;) Oh, and I may well have some gauges, complete with BRAND NEW senders for sale shortly... ;)
-
should do... VW uses a 10x1 metric thread on all it's senders, so they should all be compatible... I know Rodders (vr6storm) uses an audi one 'cos I sold it to him! 8)
-
audi 80 sport.... and yes, the senders will fit...
-
bugger, I put german initially and then changed it...
-
rear axle bushes causing the rear axle to "float" when cornering? Long shot, but worth a try... Also check that the rear brakes aren't binding as this could cause the rears to drag slightly creating more rear tyre wear than normal...
-
IIRC it's 11Lb/Ft for the rocker nuts, but I just tend to do 'em tight by hand... The rocker cover IS identical... 8)
-
dinkus, I'd bet I can produce a similar effect with a cricket bat and a stepper motor... ;) "just sit here in the optimum listening position..." *THUD* *THUD* *THUD* "Wow! That bass is sooo low I can actually feel it... "

mmmm. makes vibrations from 30Hz down to 1Hz.... and the point of that would be what exactly... has no-one else wondered why no-one else has bothered making one of these before? ;)
-
that'll be a US spec interior then, rmn.... ;)

yeah, had one as a company car a few years ago... they're a little thirsty on the old Go-Go juice, but other than that, they're actually pretty good... Reasonable (for frod anyway) build quality, well specc'd and quite nippy too... Dunno how well they hold up over time or how many bits fall off it regularly/cost to service, but it was quite nice as a method of transport... 8)

I've altered the title to your post shawshankkid, to make it a little more obvious what it is... Nice write up... 8)

you need different pistons to drop the compression ratio, up rated con-rods, a different head gasket, different injectors, ECU, engine loom and some internal block modifications to get it to be reliable with a G60... It's actually quite a lot easier to throw the old loom, engine and box away and fit a PG one out of a genuine G60! ;)
-
GPC do genuine VW leather ones for around £20 IIRC... Got one from them at Inters last year for J-DUB... 8)
-
I've also got a red reiger one in H-YYU... 8) they really are a piece of p!$$ to fit... If you're stuck on where to connect 'em to, feed the wires up behind the fag lighter and you can power it off the illumination and earth for that VERY easily... ;) 8)
-
yup, with Bix here... it's the heads front water flange which has probably warped so it's not sealing properly... they're not mega expensive, and only have 2 bolts to take 'em off as you already know from changing the O ring... 8)
-
yup, you may want to simply try checking that the nuts which hold the rocker cover on are tight before changing anything... after that, I'd try a new rocker cover... they're simple and cheap to change and are known to leak with age... 8)

love the bit where he's fitting the second cam and drops a nut into the head... Fecking always happens   They've got everything they need for building a good engine there: Good lighting, plenty of room and a clean working environment... that's all you need really... the video probably has the 3000 trips to the haynes manual to find out which way up something fits or what torque to tighten something to deleted to make it fit into 10 mins though! Engines are basically just a large meccano set... follow the instructions, take your time and it'll end up like it's supposed to... rush it and think you're too clever and bits will fall off and it won't work.... ;)

The Rallye wasn't a failed rally car... it was simply a little late, so when it finally was ready to race, they changed the rules due to several fatalities and basically outlawed it... :( To be fair to them, the Rallye really IS more than just a golf with a body kit... the floor pan, rear suspension, rear quarter panels, front end panels, engine and running gear were all unique (or at least designed for/because of) the Rallye... it doesn't really share a lot with a common-or-garden MKII Golf (except for syncros and G60s... ;) ) Personally, I wouldn't have one myself (hence why I have a Corrado  ) but the rarity, exclusiveness and reason for their existance make them somewhat special... elite's probably a little strong, but well up in the top 5 classic VWs... 8)

don't worry, we all use 1/4" 3/8" or 1/2" drives over here too! ;) Any reasonable torque wrench that'll go around 10% over what you need for the head bolts will do the job for you... I got mine from Halfords (not much use to you being in the US) for around £80, so you should be able to get something similar over there for about the same amount of dollars from what I saw in New York last week... ;) -
Yeah, right... so a standard 160bhp rallye will thrash a well modded corrado? Dream on... People need to be careful with making a statement like that as it's simply not true... Rallyes ARE very good, but don't forget that they're still got a G60 engine in there (unless it's been swapped out, in which case you're comparing a modded cars so all rules/written figures go straight out the window!) which isn't actually that hot in standard form, especially with the extra weight/drag of the 4wd system... In a straight line sprint, there's practically nothing in it between standard Corrado G60s and Rallyes, however a Corrado VR6 will easily beat a Rallye in a straight line sprint and on top end speed... it's only when a Rallye gets onto the twisty bits that it's syncro system comes into its own and it gets starts to hold its own against the Corrado, but even then, there's not a lot in it handling wise either especially in the dry on tarmac... I've taken several messed with Rallyes apart with my G60 (J-DUB) and made their owners rather unhappy that a G60 corrado has demolished them both on straights and on cornering... get a good suspension setup on a Corrado with an LSD and the difference between the 2 cars in everyday driving practically dissapears... you'll only then find the difference in the wet or snow/ice... With you there though, they are somewhat special... 8)
