yup, just a matrix and 2 jubilees... Oh, and 2 bits of metal pipe to remove the bunged up crappy recall valves!
-
yup, full throttle's when the cam belt is under the most load making it tighten up over the cam and bottom sprockets... this could well explain the whizzing noise... the knocking could be a bearing that's complaining about the extra stress being put on it by the overly tight cambelt... :|

pinking is when the mixture in the cylinders explodes too early in the cycle - It can be caused by a weak mixture, badly setup timing, or an overly hot engine. It's called pinking 'cos that's the sound the engine makes "pink pink pink pink..."

I used a guy in Bollington... it's not the best job in the world, but it was reasonably cheap and I needed some of the bodywork sorting urgently as there were some rust spots that were starting to get critical... :|

I think I need to get some time off work.... :| Finish stripping out interior and replace heater matrix Fix heater flaps Install new gauges and tidy up the rats nest of wiring and alarm boxes refit dash Change head gasket reconnect heater matrix Install new expansion tank Get Darren to sort my spare G60 to R1 spec and install that Install water injection system Install boost return deletion kit + work out a silencing kit for it Install uprated brakes (been meaning to do that since Jan... ) Finish spare complete front suspension and steering rack and then fit to the car. Find out why the electric mirrors have packed in (probably not connected after respray) Get spray man to re-do the roof to sort out a couple of problems Finish off the spoiler brake light and wire in neatly (rather than the bodge job I did at E38!) Oh, and all of that's gotta be done while keeping the car drivable for as much of the time as possible... :|

A boost leak sure as hell ain't gonna help things...

Is it possible to chrome the spring tensioner????????
Henny replied to Blue_Joe's topic in Engine Bay
no idea. I just fitted a new one on my engine rebuild 'cos the old one was shafted... :| -

I'd have said that the best way was to ask a local chroming place... ;) -
G60's don't have a crank sensor as they have a traditional distributor system so don't need one... ;) _leon_, Check out all of your vacuum hoses and also have a look and see if your throttle cable is frayed at the throttle end as this can cause problems similar to this too...

K&N panel filter in a 16V... 8)

bix, that one's got a BIG bit cut out of the top... :| I'd agree though that the Golf one is VERY good and pretty easy to fit too... 8)
-
scarlett, odds are it's either a dodgy wire/connector going to the expansion tank, or the sensor in the expansion tank is on it's way out... ;)
-
christ, could you imagine the amount of bits that'd be lying around if we got a mob of us together to all sort our various matrix problems at once! Dashboards in all directions!

Sam, your problem with chroming it would be making sure that the seals don't get any chemicals on 'em during the process which would damage them meaning that it'll leak... -
the beige sunroof motor cover paints rather well with some interior plastic paint, as do the A, B and C pillar trims, door pockets, rear shelf mounts etc etc etc... ;)
-
Thanks to g60dave for the pillar pod... nicely wrapped and well quick delivery... 8)

billinjahg60, talk to Darren, he's the man for the advice on his services and won't try and talk you into spending more than you actually need to... although he may end up tempting you by mentioning other things he can sell you...

early Corrados have a black sunroof switch...
-
that's gonna hurt... :|

nope, et35 + 20mm spacer = ET15...

you can't buy either G11 OR G12 from VW now, it's all G12+ which has replaced both. G12+ is safe to use in all previous G11 or G12 (none plus) engines. The parts monkey you spoke to is incorrect. The heater matrix they now sell should have the B suffix which is the replacement part for the original, if not then they've given you an old stock part for a 1.8 G60 or 16V. The B part DOES have the safety valves built in, or at least is of a different internal construction so that it doesn't need them (can't remember which to be honest) The VR6 matrix should have the valves built in anyway as the recall only affected the early cars, later ones had the B suffix heater matrix as standard (The recall valves don't stop 'em leaking, it just stops 'em exploding!) I too am about to undertake this job as my original matrix burst a while back and I'm starting to get cold in the mornings on the way to work!

you just need a 13mm (IIRC) grommet... especially on a black car ;)
-
To be brutally honest, in my experience people with chroming machines know how to sort out/prep the stuff they're chroming, so if they don't know what they're doing, take 'em elsewhere... :|
