    which engine model

samm_cvr6, 16VG60's gotta be well up there! ;)
  2. I'll add that into my vocabulary then... Foofoo valve... someone was taking the pi$$ when they named that weren't they!
  3. did you change the chip when you did the pulley? If not then your fuelling will be a mile out and you'll either be running lean, or running fully retarded as the ECU panics trying to stop it from running lean... :|
  4. yup, valvers were much higher insurance than the 8Vgti for some odd reason... :|
  5. Taken from http://www.ukmot.com This actually seems to imply that you can drive your car from an MOT without tax if you fail it, but not if you pass it, which rings a bell as to how my mate got done.... :|
  6. Claret Badger, ah, mines a 1.6 and is group 13 (same as a GTI! :| )
  7. that's the boogar... I think there's some brown wires (earths) which go to the side of the head too, but it's a while since I've played with a valver, so I can't remember if that's G60 only, or also on the valvers...
  8. Expensive to insure though mate... (I have one too, and it's crap on fuel, crap on insurance, however, it just won't die and has cost me practically sod all to keep going for the last 2 years... )
  9. RW1, that end bit's not actually true mate... :? If your car has no tax on it, you can drive directly TO an MOT testing station if the test is pre-booked, but you CAN NOT drive it back (no matter if it passes or not) until you have taxed the car... Driving it back from the MOT station without tax WILL leave you open to all the fines and penalties normally associated with driving without tax if you get stopped.
  10. check the main earth cable which runs from the battery to the chassis just under the battery and then on to the gearbox mount to earth the engine. Also check the earth straps from the head to the bulkhead. These tend to go green (or get a white powder buildup on them) which makes 'em high resistance and stops the electrical systems earthing properly causing all sorts of random problems like this...
  11. check your vacuum hoses carefully for splits, tears or wear... if there's any vacuum leak, a G60 will run like a sack of cack...
  12. that's only 'cos it was leaking... by ripping it all out and blanking off in the correct places you'd have removed any chance of the vacuum pipes leaking causing problems like you had... ;) Oh, and it doesn't half neaten up the engine bay... ;) 8)

The 9A engines injection/ECU system can also be chipped which will liberate a few ponies for you... 8)
  14. I'd go for an old Astra TDI or a Pug 205 TDI... Cheap as chips, insurance group feck all, and reliable as anything... ;)

    Wheel pcd.

which age Type 2? There's at least 3 different PCDs on them that I can think of depending on if it's an early or late splitty or a bay window version... ;) 5x 205 (very early) 4x 130 (rare) 5x 112 (later models) [/anorak]
  16. I thought you meant like a marble effect!

    Bailiff :(

humm, debt collection without a registered office listed on the note, no landline number and only an 07977 number as contact... :| Me? I'd be straight down to citizens advice and then probably onto the cop-shop as I'm of the opinion that's a con... ;) They cannot take your car if it's not registered in the name that they have on their debtors list, if they do it's plain old theft which you just need to call the police about...
  18. http://www.dension.com do IPOD adaptors for most OEM stereos and the like under the ICELink name... They also do an FM modulator unit that's very good too... 8) Oh, and I've moved this to ICE'n'Secure too... 8)
  19. keithmac, when Daz opened my 10K, 1year since service charger, the seals were FUBAR'd and several of the bearings hadn't been replaced and were showing serious signs of wear... I'd only sent it to him as there was a little oil in the outlet and the charger was off the engine anyway while I was building a new engine.... He's currently got my spare charger which has had to have a new scroll in it due to some seriously dodgy welding work where the apex strip should sit done during it's last service (which I have the receipt for) from around 25K ago... Guess who had done both of these chargers before Daz got hold of 'em and sorted 'em out??? Ja,[insert sheep type noises here....] ;)
  20. Kev? Get some pics up!!! :)

    Waxoyl

yeah, I'm with you there RW1... When I worked in a garage we used to use a 50/50 mix of Waxoyl and Shutz... Stayed nice and flexible without ever drying up but putting it on was, as craigowl points out, somewhat messy... :|

    Piston matters

it's the cam that makes the idle lumpy, not the valve sizes... I'm going up in valve size (hopefully) in the next couple of months and that shouldn't affect the idle at all 'cos I'm keeping the standard cam... 8)
