can anyone advice if the VR6 / 16V standard exhaust 1st silencer section (the bit after the CAT) are identical and can be interchanged. they look the same to me.

clean and grease rear calipers :nono: might put some copper slip on the rear of the pad / piston face but nothing else.

What type of Exhaust Back Box is fitted to 16V?
delfinis38 replied to green_16v_corrado's topic in Drivetrain
is it just the back box that's aftermarket and stainless ? is the rest of the system VAG then. if it's an complete aftermarket system changing the back box if that's possible for VAG may not quieten the system down. from memory when i bought a back box from VAG a few years ago for my 16v they were about 200 squid .... Ouch.... I know what you mean about the noice of aftermarket exhausts i'm not a fan either. I like the tone and burble of my standard VR6 system.... that's why i have recently replaced it for stupid money with the genuiun VAG exhaust.. system cost me about £650 and that's not fitted :cuckoo: and it's not stainless, you could buy two magnex systems for that :cuckoo: -
thanks for all the replies... well after looking at access underneath the car today and putting a measuring stick over different sections of the exhaust the most likely place for a join is A or C. definatly not B the OD (outside Dia) of the exhaust at 'a' is 60mm tube, but it does vary over a length of 70mm between 58 - 60mm. i'm thinking of cutting the exhaust and using an exhaust sleeve for an R32 like this..... has anyone used one before? it says it's for a 60mm dia pipe.... do you think it will take the slack up of the variations in diametre of exhaust pipe varying between 58-60mm or am i worring about nothing.... Other than exhaust compound anything else required after cutting to make a good seal. TIA

The "what I did to my Corrado today" thread...
delfinis38 replied to Jim's topic in General Car Chat
Drove it the the Veee Dub garage and back all of 13 miles..... Yes    Well it is the second time it's been out the garage this year and summers nearly over :( Ooooo that new scirocco looks sexy in midnight blue :salute: -
thanks for all the comments. not sure on the best route to take at the moment. will have a chat to VeeDud to day to see if they can supply a sleeve also a chat to me mate to see what mod he can do. Although I'm still toying with the idea to drop the rear axle. Just been looking at the exhaust apparently there is a mark between the mid and rear section as a guideline to cut.... I can't see it anybody done it that can comment. is it in section A B or C  TIA
-
Just bought an exhaust for the VR. It's a new origional Vee Dub one, so it has the mid section joined to the rear box. :( Fitting need the rear axle removed or dropped partially. I'm in two minds what to do either do a proper job and remove the axle to fit it. which is my prefered method to keep the car origional. Or get my mate to modify the exhaust by splitting it in two so it would be an easy fit. (it should be a decent job as my mate fabricates F1 Exhaust for a Living). Just trying to weight my options up at the moment. 1) Anybody removed and fitted an orig exhaust system from a VR can offer me some advice ? 2) can anyone give me approx time effort it means to remove the rear axle, and what other jobs are recommended doing at the same time. TIA

Does this mean your Corrado will move out of the garage? LOL..... Only to the MOT station next week, half a mile down the road and back  I will use the Vauxhall to pick the parts up :(
-
thanks chaps VW it is then... 18.50 each inc VAT is current price.

Can anybody comment on the following rear VR6 bearings on offer compared to standard VW. Europarts and German and swedish have cheaper bearings made by SNR and Orbis, approx half and 1/3 third of the price of VW. Or should I be sticking to Standard VAG equipment. TIA

Any advice welcome on a replacement laserline alarm / central locking key fob for my rado. currently using the spare but it would be nice to purchase a new one. The alarm is the original supplied with the car in '95. Or is it a matter or buying a new alarm. TIA

I thought you had sold yours Adrian? Im sure i saw it on Pistonheads recently? Well that was well spotted ! yes it was on for a couple of days before xmas. There was a bit too much interest in it at the time. Don't know if the price was wrong, but i certainly had a couple of jokers come round, just for a nose ! The car needs an MOT this month and tax and i will be doing an oil change this weekend. I'm a bit embarrassed to say the VR has only done 23 miles this year for various reasons. I intend to keep it for the summer and see what next autumn brings. She really needs someone to drive her more often and love her as much as i do !

Me too, putting a new VAG exhaust on soon so need to remove the beam.

I've insured my VR with admiral for the last 10 year. they have always seemed to be the best on price. this year premium is £330 fully comp, annual millage of 10K, excess £150. I don't use the corrado as much as I should but it has occured to me now i may need an agreed value insurance policy. because if any think happenend to the car they would only give me market value ie... book price. I would not like to put a figure on the value my VR but i think is worth more than book price (see detail in sig). So the question is can you recommend an agreed value insurance company and what sort of value should I be aiming for. TIA

when I bought my J plate 1.8 16v new, it had this stereo in... Just found it in the garage it's a bit dusty and had a few knocks over the years. The quality is rubbish compared to now. I installed it on my boat once. It was the only think that was not knicked when it got broken in too

Would you believe, it's a product called Battery Pole Grease, available from most motor factors comes in a spray can. White grease dries after sprayed on. it also reduces transfer resistance and voltage gradient !
