  1. they sell the tool in halfords for about £20. it's worth buying one, makes it easy. from memory they sell 2 types for different cars. but none of them list a vw corrado on the back of the card. I ended up opening the tool up in the shop to look at the destruction's to find out which one is for a rado. might want to buy some copper slip or similar to put on back faces of the pad's that touch the pistons.
  2. Are you Buying or Selling ? or it's just a fluke your both called paul

    Car Mats

other than the proper Corrado tailored mats from VW, can any one recommend a set of tailored mats to fit the rado. I only really require a drivers mat in black as the grey foam on the rear is deteriating with age. but a set of front mat's would be a good option. Would a set of grey VW mats suit a black interior (seats / carpet)... I'm thinking NOT  Praps a new set of VW mats is the best option.
  4. thank's for the input. I've not used my heated seats fro years so forgot
  5. thanks... I think the problem was that the seats were not actually on or off if that makes sence... the noice has gone away now that the seats are off and On and both seats warm nicelly. How do the seats work ? do you have to have the fan heater turned on and up to max. or are they just controlled by the heated seat switch ? Is it just the bases that get warm or is it the backs as well ?
  6. Thanks for the quick answer, Just been into the garage.. to have a play ! right by flicking the heated seats switch between off and 1 i can here a click from that area.. I've just noticed after fitting a new stereo yesterday that both heated seat switches had been knocked. They both were on but between off and 1 just. could this cause the noise ? I've switched them off now and report back after another spin.
  7. Not driven the corrado for a while. so after fitting the new exhaust system i decided to take the car for a spin to set the exhaust compound that i used. After a few miles i noticed a electrical whining noise coming from the rear passenger seat area, almost like something is winding in or out electrically. The noise is more obvious from inside the car than out. I had a seized calliper a while back from lack of use and initially thought it might be a piston trying to wind in and out. Is their anything electrical under the rear seat / behind the door card in this area ? Anyone got any bright ideas what it could be
  8. easy way to check a abs sensor is to put a volt metre across it and check the resistance of all four sensors. can't remember off hand what the reading should be but it will be obvious which one it is.
  9. How about a block of wood ! that's all i use.
  10. Thanks all... I'd planned a visit to machine mart in southampton at the weekend to pick a few other bit's up so i will have a look at the clarke jacks and stands while i'm their. i was a bit cautious of the fact the stands folded and may not be secure enough.
  11. Anyone bought a trolly jack / set of axle stands recently are their any good deals around.. Just been looking at this in Screwfix http://www.screwfix.com/prods/66742/Automotive/Jacks-Stands/2-Tonne-Combi-Kit Anyone like to comment on how good or bad it is. Okay it's not top notch quality but i only want to use it to replace my ageing stuff that gets used very occasionally. stuff like changing exhausts disc and pads.
  12. Thank You... a trip to VAG then for me
  13. Does anyone know if the fuel filter on the VR is the same part number as the one on a 2ltr. Any opinions on replacement filter's VAG or maybe fram (which the VAG filter probably is anyway).
  14. Thanks for the offer.. But I bit the bullet like yourself and bought a new silencer from VW. I now have a complete new system from the cat back including nice shinny clamps  The old silencer was fine and not blowing but it had surface rust round the two ends and along the seem (might of lasted a few years) but thought might as well put a new one on so the jobs done (As i'm not a fan of lying under cars and VW don't have many left in stock - there were only 4 mid and back box's left in the UK when I initally enquired about mine).
  15. Yup... I bought one of these in a size 8 although a size 7 would work just as well. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Exhaust-Pipe-Connector-Sleeve-Joiner-Connectors_W0QQitemZ130268603897QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item130268603897&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1301%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318 sorry can't do one of those short links. If you look at the picture above of the VAG sleeve, the clamps are spot welded to the sleeve so you can't rotate the clamps or move them closer (without drilling one clamp through the spot weld). So it's not that easy to modify.. The ebay clamp sit's in a recess dimple so are fixed if you want them or you can nock them out of the dimple to move the clamp closer. I cut my clamp down to 70mm. which is just enough room for both clamps to sit next to each other with a 5 ish mm gap.
  16. Okay... Thought I would update my post as I finally got round to fitting the new VAG exhaust system this weekend on the VR. Bought myself a rather rubbish draper expert exhaust pipe cutter that just about cut through the old exhaust. :camp: I cut the new VAG exhaust in the straight section nearest the back box right next the the rubber hanger and fitted the two sections of exhaust with an exhaust sleeve which i bought from ebay in the end (the clamps on the VAG sleeve's are spot welded so shortening the clamp was not an option). For reference the length of the clamp/sleeve needs to be 70mm long. All exhaust sleeves come in lengths of 90mm or 120mm. The sleeve needs to be able to compensate for a variety of Dia from 57mm-60mm. So I now have a new VAG exhaust system from the CAT back at a silly price  would of been cheaper to buy two magnex systems.. but it's the proper exhaust that i wanted. All be it that i was a bit lazy not to drop the beam. (I may have the system welded at the join in the future if i need to drop the beam). Their's nowt really wrong with the old one that i chopped off. It's having the bar hanger on the mid section welded back on this week as three of the welds had gone. and having the seams tidyed up on the mid section as their through to the first skin of the exhaust. I also intend to have the cut i made between the mid and back box welded up again. So i have a spare for future. Thanks for all your input into this thread :)
  17. I changed the grill on my J plate 16v to a three slat but with the VW badge, it had the grill that you've got at present beforehand. From memory it's not a direct replacement the only difference are the upper and lower lugs are in different positions. I think i modded some of the upper or lower bodywork to take the new positions of the lugs.  Sorry i cant be more accurate it was maybe 8 years ago when i had my 16v..... But yes it is possible to change... PS nice looking rado....
  18. agree about 3-4K to the right person... prices have dropped alot over the last year or so.. It's the wrong time of year to sell the prices seem to pick up in spring time.
  19. I totally agree with you ! VW all the way just bought the rear box and mid section for £500 approx from VW, just exploring other avenues really. All the parts i've replaced so far on the rado are genuine VW. The silencer does not need changing just thought it might be worth doing but not for £150 at the moment thanks  The question really was possed at...do any other people sell genuine VW parts at reduced prices apart from VW. Our Yacht has a Volvo Penta Engine and the prices of these parts are marked up like VW parts.... But there are various outlets that sell genuine Volvo parts at reduced prices than the dealer is knocking them out at.
  20. Other than the suppliers that i've used in the past for supplying Genuine parts / aftermarket parts... Ie... VW, Eurocarparts and GSF. Anybody got any suggestion where I might purchase a standard first exhaust silencer... Ideally a origional VW part but i don't really want to entertain VW price's.
  21. What No Warning Triangles out ! Or was the zip bust
  22. looks like my mates van.... but his has Herbie stripes and number 53 on it
  23. If you can justify the extra dosh.... It's got to be an Alpine...
  24. The mileage got me for a second 72K that will be Kilometres then ! so he's right in saying 40K ish miles on the clock
  25. That's spot on... Many Thanks. I've found a cheaper draper one on the net that will do the job as a one off. I knew they did pipe cutter's for plumbing and i've been searching the old screwfix and machinemart books tonight but found nothing big enough. do they make a clean cut ?
