  1. I can understand totally where you're coming from mate, angry at the chap for potentially having put you in that situation but mostly feeling horrible about the poor animal. It's just one of those really horrible feelings where in the words of a tired but useful cliche, time will hopefully prove a healer. I've not been in your situation but I hope you can take some solace from thinking that you did absolutely what any right thinking person should, which is to go back and see to the situation; lots of people wouldn't and in doing so, you've done all you could.
  2. Blackberry 'rado, possibly VR6, black alloys, being driven out of St. Peter's Tesco at about three this afternoon. The lady driving gave a wave...think I've logged this spot before with no luck though?!
  3. Very nice looking dark coloured (blue?!) Corrado, sitting on non OEM alloys (Porsche?!) in the Commandery Road short stay car park this evening at about half six/sevenish. Whoever's it is, it looks lovely and in one moment made me realise just what a good looking car we do drive, so thanks for making my night!
  4. Have had both Speedlines and Solitudes on my VRs and agree with all that's been said that Speedies are a great wheel, beautiful design, easy to keep clean and have aged beautifully. However, for OEM+ and trying to make the VR look as VW might have if it had rolled off the production line now, the only wheel choice for me is RXIIs. VW issue, fitted to Golfs of the same era, so suits that period but fills the arches a tad more and hasn't perhaps dated in quite the way Speedlines have.
  5. Odd that they described it as breathable, given that that's normally a description for outdoor waterproof gear for humans, allowing the emission of perspiration through a waterproof membrane without the admission of water in. Basically "water resistant" means that it's been treated with a water displacing chemical on the outside but that will never be the same as waterproof, which means that there is a membrane in there to stop the admission of water. It'd also need topping up often as the elements would strip that coating off.
  6. Or a group bank-job... All the get away cars would break down  Brilliant! "I only told you to replace the bloody door striker pins...now we can't get in!"
  7. No such verb in Spanish. The verb correr does indeed mean to run but when conjugated in the context of the perfect tense participle "he corrido" it means "I have run".
  8. Definitely not Classic Green? :( Was in those parts Wednesday, completely OEM VR6, M966 ***, me and the missus in it.
  9. Oh, and anyone want to own up to being the gentleman shopping at St. Peter's Tesco yesterday, whom I parked next to as he was having the Polish Car washing team do his car and who came back as I was leaving but wasn't wanting to acknowledge a friendly smile? Might be that you missed me smiling away and nodding as I pulled out or just that you don't like fellow Corrado owners... ...your L reg Bordeaux 16v looked nice though on big black rims.
  10. Out for my run this morning and saw a red Corrado heading up the A4440 from the St. Peter's roundabout towards Whittington. Can't tell you what engine as the poor thing was missing a grille as well as a rear bumper...I was the nutter running into the headwind and swearing...
  11. Black VR with debadged grille, turning off Hylton Road by the University campus, this evening at sixish.
  12. I've used Stealth and would thoroughly recommend them but there's only one place now that I would ever take a VW of mine to in the West Midlands, and that's DG Autotech. Run by forum enthusiasts in the way you would want. Do a quick search on the forum and you'll see it's not just me who thinks that, much older and wiser heads in forum terms would say so too.
  13. Spotted wazza leaving Halesowen on the Kidderminster road, Thursday evening about sixish. I was in the crate of a coach packed full of rugby players going the other way.
  14. Mine have taken more than my fair share of money over the years but then I always figured that if I'd gone out and bought a new car (which incidentally might just as easily chuck out a massive bill as soon as the warranty ran out) I'd be paying out so much in finance each month, much of it interest, that I'd rather spend an outright amount of money I can afford in one lump on an older car and then be prepared to use the selfsame wedge each month which I would have spent buying back a bit of a new car at a time on keeping the old one going. Under this scheme of questionable brilliance I've never owned a new car and I've suffered my fair share of sudden big bills or the occasional sticky situation where a car has let me down. But then I never wanted to own a new car and every time I get in my Corrado, I love its retro charm and the performance. After all, what car could I possibly have afforded new which would have provided like performance and smiles for miles ratio? Like you, I was worried about the wisdom of buying an older sports coupe and the possibility of big bills. I've had the worst happen and an engine die on me in the old one, just after putting lots of money into it. So what did I do? I bought another, as similar as I could find, because I didn't want a new car and I missed the old one so desperately. Best decision I ever made but many think I'm a nutter for doing it. But then every time I press the loud pedal...bliss.
  15. Blue VR (I think) parked at the top of Cromwell Crescent, just off London Road, this afternoon at about half three. Anyone?
  16. There is absolutely no doubting that Dave, but I think the neighbourhood is beginning to get used to mine and Sally's odd ways anyhow... Thanks again for all you've done lately Dave; the work on the suspension that you and Graham did has presented me with a drive like a good VR should have, I can't describe how transformed the ride is and how precise the handling, so hats off to DG Autotech, something I think I'm going to be saying quite often! :notworthy: Then thanks for today for coming out and having a listen to the poorly other motor and giving me a ride in the ottermobile. Always a pleasure and I was so chuffed that we found Otter Lane...
  17. Corrado in "happy ending with no big bill or endless problem" shocker! Seriously, great news, chuffed for you. Enjoy the ride!
  18. I'll third this, an excellent round up of their services although believe me, Graham was aiming a few choice words at your car's 'rusty nuts' at the weekend  but eventually got them apart even whilst being interupted by me asking which end of the spanner was which :camp: . Thats a tidy replacement car you've got hold of there from what i saw of it! Cheers mate, it's a really good runner with a super engine and drive, just needs some renewing of the more perishable bits and a real spruce up on the outside; quite the ugly duckilng among some gorgeous VW brand swans! Interior's nice and the outside will come up to spec soon, when this VR ends up wearing half of the clothes off its predecessor, which was the opposite: knackered engine, nice looking exterior! Can't wait for it to go back to Dave and Graham soon, as even with the car's handling being a work in progress until the bushes and track rod ends have been done, the improvement in the handling from the bits they were able to sort is genuinely noticeable. Proper pair of magicians those two: they can even make a work in progress drive really rather well... Really looking forward to seeing your super VR at a meet again soon; I think I'm going to be very jealous of all the excellent treatment it received recently...
  19. Hoping this is the right place to drop a post in about DG Autotech. By far the best thing that's happened in my time owning Veedubs is Dave and Graham opening up a dedicated, friendly, expert and welcoming independent VW (and others) specialist and right in my neck of the woods to boot. Lucky or what... For anyone wondering where to take their Veedub for totally professional, expert work delivered by enthusiasts, for enthusiasts, for me there would be no contest. I knew both the gents from this forum before, particularly Dave, but that notwithstanding, they were able to slot in my VR which had developed an unusual droning noise at pretty much zero notice, keep it in the workshop around their booked in jobs for as long as it took to get the part in for a shot wheel bearing and fit it where they could find time. This was no mean feat as my low-mileage VR with the strong engine suffers from a severe case of seized up suspension components and was a proper pig to sort. It'll be going back soon for some proper booked in time to have new life breathed into the suspension and the track rod ends finally undone after years of being well frozen up but I really can't thank them both enough for finding the time to fit the other job in, despite being busy with the jobs of customers who'd booked their time in. In this uncertain world of running ageing but headturning cars, where the next big bill or maddening problem could be just around the corner, I can't put into words what peace of mind I will now draw from having exactly what any Corrado (never mind VAG/Seat etc) owner could want, right on my doorstep. It's exactly what the website proclaims: somewhere where you take your car to be serviced, not as an ordeal to be negotiated but as a genuine pleasure, as two such friendly chaps will make you so welcome...and also allow you to have a look round the facilities like a kid in a sweetshop...beware the "shiny" cupboard and its wallet seducing Siren call... Carlsberg don't make VW specialist centres, but if they did, they'd still not manage one that fits the bill like that. In your debt chaps. Ed.
  20. Now that's a quality chuftie! :thumbleft:
  21. The very well trained missus spotted what sounds like a Blackberry 'rado (dark purple colour) but with apparently even brighter than normal paint colour, either the mother of all polishes or an unusual respray, in St. Peter's Tesco car park today at lunchtime.
  22. Slammed looking Nugget C, heading down Money Lane towards the junction with the A491 just by Lydiate Ash this morning. Anyone claiming it?
  23. Heavily modded and very shiny looking red 'rado, personalised number plate, being driven north on the M5 at about quarter to five today. Anyone?
  24. Regardez! :D http://www.imcdb.org/vehicles.php?make=Volkswagen&model=Corrado&modelMatch=1&modelInclModel=on Nice site there, It's missing the Corrado I saw in a Bond film! Tomorrow never dies i think? There is indeed a dark coloured 'rado in Tomorrow Never Dies, right after the thoroughly excellent "cunning linguist" scene.
  25. Hurrah! OUX is me. She's actually Classic Green although I think the fact that she's very overdue for a wash contributed to her looking Dragon. Taking it you weren't in a 'rado or am I just going blind?! No wasn't in a 'rado was in my big Tyrrells artic. Only thought its was dragon green not to good on my colour names. No probs, the car needs a little cosmetic work to be mint anyhow. As your day job sees you driving a Tyrrells lorry, can I just say thank you for bringing so much joy into my life, not just Corrado spots but also quality local grown snack delights.
