I agree with Jim, it does make the Corrado look old but in a good way! And as for the 'rado in shots looking dirty, mate, if that's what yours looks like dirty, you should see mine when it badly needs a wash! Nice looking motor yours. :D

My tuppenyworth Mike (for all that it is worth): unlike many on here, you're not having to sell up the Corrado in order to make a new car possible. You've already got something which you enjoy very much on a daily basis. So I suppose the question must be as brutal as: would you miss the Corrado if it were gone? Your decision ultimately will be based on that. Ed.

What a really lovely thread. That's what I like so much about this forum: proof in an increasingly frightening world that there are still some really good people out there. Good on you mate.

Best composed, wittiest and funniest post on here in ages, and it's in good company! Made my day. :D

I tend to take it as a major plus when people say they don't like the Corrado. If everyone liked the same things it'd be a dull old world in any case and when it comes to the 'rado, if everyone liked it, it wouldn't be special. What I love about it is that to an awful lot of people it draws either a blank or curious look but to those who know and respect the car, it draws chufties, respect and genuine affection. I've lost track of the number of random strangers who've engaged me in talk about it at petrol pumps, as I've been getting out etc. I've always viewed the Corrado as being a litmus test of personality. If people "get" it and like it, they and I will get along just fine. If they dismiss it out of hand, they're fit only to be gassed like badgers and I would no more enter a conversation with them about its merits than I would enter an arse kicking contest with a one legged man; there's no mileage in it. Pun intended. Put it this way: the last missus (who even at the time had my friends, family and me (on the inside) wondering what I was doing with her!) at best tolerated it. She didn't get it and expressed during the long overdue and very necessary break up that she was glad to see the back of it. The current missus (who happens to be the best girl in the world and whom I will marry like a shot when the time comes) adores the 'rado, despite never having come across one before and has huge affection for it. The other day she remarked how she couldn't imagine me driving anything else, that the car and I were perfectly in tune. Moments like that, the marriage thing seems an even better idea! 'Nuff said!

Yes, that's what we'd technically refer to as buggered. Hey, if it's going to go wrong, it might as well do so in style, that's what I always say!

Excellent chuftie!

Filling up the tank from pretty much dry earlier on (ouch!), I'd waited for the chance to pull up to a pump on the same side as the filler cap. A nice, youngish gentleman in his estate checked if I minded if he went ahead to the vacant pump on the opposite side; when I said no, he went ahead. Therefore he'd paid and come back out as I was still pouring in the ridiculously expensive distillate. He gave the VR an appreciative glance, then looked over, winked and said "I used to have one of these - fast as f**k, aren't they?". Made my day! Just as well, given I was about to cough up 80 squids at the till...

It does sound as if it's running rather rich and might settle back down. How long have you been letting it run for? For what it's worth, I thought your problem was rather more serious from your post title; I thought you'd opened the bonnet and found nothing under there!

I am actually the luckiest man alive.

Seemed to have a whole day of mini-chufties yesterday. Had a smashing day walking on the Malverns with the missus and it was all capped off beautifully by the number of little admiring glances the dub seemed to get. The fact that she notices all the people who are sneaking peeks and then tells me just makes her all the more of a catch, by the by! However, key chuftie moment must have been after going for a well deserved post walk lunch at the Malvern Hills Hotel. Had parked at the roadside outside where lots of walkers heading from one part of the Hills to the next have to follow the road briefly. Returned to the car just behind a family with a middle aged Dad, wife and two sons in their late teens/early twenties. As they approached the dub they were giving it some respectful glances and appreciative comments. They then realised that we were about to get in her and walked on. However, the missus (who was watching them in the passenger wing mirror) pointed out that at the sound of the VR firing up, both sons and Dad turned for an appreciative glance. Then I became a proper saddo. Instead of following the road in the direction I'd parked to go home, I pulled a three point turn so I could give it the beans past them. With the urging of the missus. What a girl. What a car. What a great day as the three of them nodded appreciatively at the sound of the VR's six all going as we passed them.

Doubt it will go up automaticly when you hit 56 though  Oh, I don't know. It depends whether we're talking minutes or seconds.

That's of little use unless you can get your rear spoiler up.

Glad you got it sorted Boj. Lucky you with cream leather. If I'd had the cash I'd have thought long and hard about it...
-
Liking it Dave! Looking forward to seeing it around Worcester some time!

Here's a first (for me anyway); spotting a forum member but not in his Corrado! Mike Edwards outside PIzza Express in Worcester last night.

I disagree. I tried that once and the damn fish started to smell after a while... ...in more serious news, don't do it Goldie!

I very much like what you've done with it Mave! Might have to do something similar for a new sig. Not a Storm, no. It's my pet fake. Not a very good one in that it's got black cloth, grille and no Storm badges! Seriously, I just preferred the look of Solitudes. In time though I'd quite like to put it on some RXIIs. How do you mean, nose cut off? It's all there as I'm looking at it!

Thought I'd stick in a couple more shots of the car in the stunning surroundings of the Malverns (so lucky living where I do). This is me getting artsy-fartsy by the way, a peril that was heralded by by "Jason Plato" pose in the previous batch of shots! Particularly happy with the second shot; if ever ANOTHER calendar is done, might submit that one for an autumnal month, though it was taken in August! 8)

Corrados and wet corners and hedges don't mix!

Echo the above. Main thing is you're all right but I feel for you losing the car. -
How long is a piece of string really? There are examples knocking around on here with over 200k and no rebuild, still on original chains and tensioner. Others required a rebuild before 90k. All depends on the individual car. Some of them were prone to bore wear at lower mileages, some weren't. I had the top end of mine rebuilt at 104k as precaution as much as anything. Most people would now agree that you should think of doing chains and tensioner between that sort of mileage and 150k since the upper tensioner pad will have worn. Go on your assessment of the individual car and the history and then take the plunge! I never looked back. I still think that the VR6 engine is incredibly strong. Sure, it can go badly wrong in some cases. All engines can, and it'll be at least 12 years old. However, I have had no major issues with mine (touch wood). It's VW after all. Buyer's guide will help you: Clicky HTH, Ed.

You can't beat the personal touch. The best kinds of present are the ones you make yourself.
