  1. Hello Mushy, Off the top of my head the main things I've had to pay out for, not counting mods or replacing worn out bits of trim, gear knob, handbrake handle, etc. Or the bit of body repair and colour matching I've had done:- Had it serviced at a local VW garage, cost about £200 with parts+labour. New Lambda probe = £350 (but these are expensive no matter what car you drive) Coolant flushed and refilled = £70 New coolant cap and refill of coolant = £50 (checked coolant a few days after flush & refill & knackered the rubber seal up on the cap - Doh!) Apart from that most of the costs have been re-doing stuff that the previous owner had ballsed up, sound system, alarm, boot install, etc. Or wear and tear, such as tracking and balancing from daily use, new door handle mechanism, etc. Next few jobs are a new alarm system, Lupo wipers before winter sets in and next year getting the charger serviced for peace of mind. If you are going to use the C as a daily driver if the cars already got Lupo Wipers and also an uprated headlight wiring loom these are a big bonus.
  2. Hello mate, had a G60 for just over a year and really enjoying owning it, even with all the costs that I've had to cough up for. But then again the cars are knocking on a bit. Mines got high mileage and the previous owner did scrimp a bit on servicing, but as soon as I took a test drive I nearly took his hand off. If you've had a Golf before then don't expect the parts to be the same price or be as easy to source. Although it does drive, handle better than a MkII, (still regret selling my MKII Gti a few years ago though). You also get far less Corrado's on the road. Your going to struggle getting 150 miles from £20 worth of juice in a G60, but not far off, as its alot better on fuel on the Motorway. Usually get 60-70 miles from £10 worth of V-Power, although this will plummet if you drive like a loon. As everyone else has said, make sure the charger has been serviced and you should have no problems with it. Did think of a VR6 as well, but as mentioned above their are higher costs when owning one, as I was quoted an extra £200 for insuring a VR6 over a G60! If you have the money then do consider a VR6 as they are seen as the more desirable car for re-sale but if not then a good G60 will give you all the smiles per mile you need. Then when you start getting used to the power you can up the bhp with a chip and pulley for a couple of hundred quid. Simple as that. :D
  3. If he thinks the VR6 is a tight engine bay what will he make of a G60!
  4. Yes, why could it be seen as illegal for me to overtake in the left-hand lane if I'm doing a constant 70mph while someone in the middle lane is doing 60-65mph???? Although once tried this theory out with a Police Van which was doing a constant 60mph in the middle lane, while I steadily overtook at 70mph in the left hand lane. The look on the police officers face in the passenger seat was priceless. Then the ***** sped up and blocked me in behind a lorry. That was a very looong trip.
  5. Went to pick the Mrs up from East Midlands Airport on Saturday from her hols' and discovered that their must be some new rules and regulations when driving on the Motorway:- Apparently the far lane is only for Beamers, Mercs and 4x4's, going by the reaction I got every time I moved to the far lane to overtake. The middle lane is for people that do a constant 60-70mph who do not have the ability to move into the left lane when empty or the right hand lane to overtake when they come up to another driver in the middle lane doing the same speed. The left lane is simply used to get off and onto the slip roads. Looks like I definately need to brush up on the new Highway Code. :?
  6. You can't buy taste or style. I'll stick with my C.
  7. Why do garages give you a price and then add VAT on top at the end? Where else would this happen, I think the checkout at Tesco/Asda would be a really fun place if at the end the checkout person then said "plus vat". If at some places the labour rate is £50+ per hour, how much more do I have to pay not to be looked at like 'doggy doo doo'!
  8. Quite alot on YouTube if you don't mind trawling through all the Top Gear clips, defo seen the one that Hammond did on the VR6 and a few from when the C first came out.
  9. Glad its of some use. With you on the 3 door option, the 5 door just looks odd on a MkII Golf and spoils the lines. Got to the point with mine where wanted a bit more poke, and the only options with the 8V and 16V are engine swaps or serious engine work, and it just wasn't financially viable at the time. So sold it and bought a 2.8i V6 Capri, DOH! :(
  10. Hello mate, Mk2 is a good choice, still regret selling my 8v GTi 3 years later. :( The Matey-Matey site is good for all the things to look out for, both golfs in general and then more specific to each model:- http://www.matey-matey.com/golf_buying_guide6.shtml Hope this helps.
  11. Thinking of a visit next year and this will be a big help. As above, any info on power gains between the different options?
  12. Have a look through the Demon Tweeks Catalogue or Website, have a wide variety of different steering wheel designs and makes. Think it depends on how much you want to spend?
  13. Thanks mate, thats a big help for budgeting for a trip down next year. It must be murder having to keep your foot off the gas. I suppose one benefit of taking the car down, is that it would nearly be bedded in by the time got back to Yorkshire. :D
  14. Were you able to get the tyre repaired afterwards?
  15. Yep, thats one of the queries I have. If I use the foam is the tyre then knackered and unrepairable?
  16. Now Hamilton's arrived it should be "Jenson Button who?" He's had numerous chances to change teams and drive in a more competitive car but has stuck with Honda, is this loyalty to the team or because of the huuuuuuuge wages they pay him? :?
  17. Was just wondering if anyone had first hand experience of using the car puncture repair kits that are around? Usually some kind of foam or sealant. Thinking of ditching the spare wheel to make more room in the boot.
  18. Would be interested in knowing how the car gets on, once everything is run in, looking at a trip to G-Werks sometime next year for a charger re-build and Chip/Pulley upgrade. Rough idea of costing? :?
  19. I think the pairing of Alonso & Hamilton in the same team is the best thing to happen to F1 in years. Goes to show how worried Alonso is of Hamilton. But part of me respects him for having the balls to do something so blatant. Should be a good race.

    Roof Bars

Would be interested to know how you get on with the bars. I was wondering what would fit a C, as after someway of transporting my mountain bike about. Cheers.
  21. Not sure how popular this would be but how about re-tests every 10 or 20 years? How many people would pass a theory test these days, never mind the full 'mirror, signal.............', etc.
  22. Might actually ask both PVW & Golf+ just to see what I get back. :(
  23. Can someone please explan this to me? PVW = Full of American shows & Cars, why? Golf+ = Thinner and thinner every issue, another blinged up MkI, yawn....... And the style seems to have gone all Chavtastic! What's going on? The latest issue features the W12 on the front, which is a great looking car, but this is then tarnished by a lazy, bright red photoshop background, with graphics that belong to the Max Power of old. Is it that difficult? I don't expect a Corrado in every issue of either mag, just a decent informative read, with great cars and images. Think I'm asking for too much. :(
  24. I think the main thing is to find a mechanic who knows about Corrado's or has worked on them before. As even each different model of Corrado, G60, VR, etc, has their own little quirks. Take mine to a local VW specialist, as the blokes are old enough to have worked on the Corrado's when they were new, rather than the more yoof mechanics, who weren't even born then!
  25. You all seem to be tip toeing round the fact that a TT is a girls car surely. :D
