ah ok, hopefully when the time comes then i will be able to get one for that :D anyone care to fill me in on how much better these engines are than the 12V, can they sound better?? Depends on personal tastes really, do a search on youtube, there are a few videos of Corrado's with R32 lumps in and they sound fooking awesome imo! The R32 has a very satisfying burble 8) Basically the 12v was VW practising for the R32 imo :lol: The 12v is a ~20 year old design, the R32 is just the updated version. The R32 has the same block but the difference is in the head, which has 24v instead of 12 and it flows massively more, and the management. I haven't been in one myself yet but they are supposed to have massively more low down and mid-range torque over the 12v, no more filling it's lungs up and finally getting somewhere! Plus the Mk5 with downpipes, decat and a good air filter remapped will give 280bhp 8)

I think generally low mileage Mk5 R32's can reach up to £2k, but you should be able to get one for £1500, I did!

Here's the quote I got from them: Wiring conversion (if the car is originally a VR) - £350 +VAT ECU immobiliser removal - £120 +VAT CAN BUS RPM converter - £60 Remap included with the above work - £280. Works out at about £880, so quite a chunk really but I suppose in this day and age with the amount of work that goes in to it plus a remap it's not a massive amount.

Yeah me and Kev discovered that the gear linkages gets burnt by the downpipes as standard on the VR! It hadn't burnt through enough to effect my linkages though, still surprisingly smooth considering they've done 160k!

Well not necessarily too late as can take them off again easily enough, bit of a PITA though! I see what you mean about the intake temps though. I have some aluminium tape which I was going to put on the bottom of the manifold to help prevent some heat soak from the head/exhaust.

Come to think of it, I didn't have any additional oil cooling when I had the Rotrex on which was kicking out 270bhp and the oil temps never went through the roof! Obviously it will need some form of cooling to be safe, but at least I know I can drive the car until I get that sorted out!

Cheers guys :cheers: Pete - The wiring is already with Vince at Stealth, he is sorting it all out there and labelling everything, then he gives me it back fully mapped and I just plug it in ... theoretically speaking anyway :pale: Kip - Yeah I have a mocal which I had on my Rotrex charger, just need a sandwich plate really. To begin with I will most likely just be using the VR cooler on it's own, which isn't ideal I know, but I'll just have to keep my eye on oil temps until I get the Mocal sorted.

I don't know what I am doing with the 12v yet, it's prepped for turbo so someone will take it I'm sure! I want to wait until I have the R32 completely working before I start flogging all my stuff just in case!! I would love an old school project with a car like that, but I don't have the room where I am anymore :( I will just have to do some bits to my little bros mk3 polo :lol: Sorry dude :lol: Thanks mate! I equally admire the amount of time and effort you put in to your car, I wish my car was half as mint as yours!

I almost just spat my tea across my desk! :lol: :lol: I have a bit of a problem now though, i'm loving this project, and it looks like it could be finished within a couple of weeks so I am going to be really bored again :( well I will be driving it a lot but not ALL the time! Might be time to start looking for a Mk1 golf project soon me thinks :lol:

Hmm I was told I could just put the VR cooler on, I have put it on and it fits perfectly. Do you know why it can't go on? Problem is, I don't know how to weld and don't know anyone who can really so modding the front mount wasn't an option for me.

Hi Pete, yeah I saved a LOT of your pics over the weekend and had my laptop setup with me in the garage with them up, very helpful indeed so many thanks!! :notworthy: I noticed you had a sleeve of some kind, I just put a big nut a some washers in it :lol: Got all my pics to come, I'm at work so will upload them in my lunch break :cheers:

Cheers karl mate. I need a mocal really, well i got one from my rotrex but it's the sandwich plate and fittings I need. Vince said the VR cooler will fit on so I'll have to try that for now, will just have to keep an eye on oil temps until I get the mocal stuff!

Yeah I have just come on here to save a bunch of Pete's massive photos, god bless him :notworthy: :lol: I will tackle it again tomorrow! It looks like the R32's filter housing and oil cooler is all in one but it must come apart looking at Pete's pics :scratch: Also it appears the R32 block is missing a chunk for the front mount, where the top bolt for the starter motor goes through :scratch: Ahh well, i'll have a good crack at it tomorrow and see how far I get!

Cheers guys! Quick visit with update. Got the R32 in today, rented a crane (soooooo glad I did, makes life slightly easier :lol) but at the moment the front is propped up with some blocks and wood as I haven't decided what to do with the front mount which to me looks waaaaay off! I don't know how to weld so couldn't mod the mount myself, so my other option was change the oil cooler as was told the VR one will replace the R32 one, well I don't think it does :censored: I took plenty of pics which are to come. I can't get on the tinternet at home at the minute as we haven't renewed contract which is annoying!!

I actually got the idea from you of just pulling it out on a trolley jack, so thanks! :lol: I couldn't wheel the car away from it sadly as it's in the garage so had to wheel engine out the car! Just have to make sure you have a good sturdy bit of wood to balance the weight of the engine/gearbox on the trolley jack! Although it did start falling off at one point, that was a herniating moment :lol: Yeah will get some pics up when my batteries have charged!
