Its really simple to do mate and the part is easy to get, just when you order the part make sure you say its the WHOLE thermostat housing not just the adapter on the end, mine fell apart the other day when chaging mine, went vw and ordered a new one and they only ordered the end bit that connects to the crack pipe. So tell them its the BIG bit that the upper and lower rad hoses connect to and you might as well get the bit that goes onto the crack pipe as well. It will come with all the O-rings you need and they are all self explanitory. Its a LOT easier to do if you remove the front bumper/cross-member and rad (very easy just lots of bolts!) then just drain the coolant from the tap in the crack pipe and lower rad hose, removre the rad hoses from the stat housing and undo all the bolts (if it feels difficult to get off there may still be a bolt in it, one of them is hard to find!) then simply remove it, put the new o-rings, stat and plugs etc in place and then when you put it back together use lots of silicon sealant and it shouldnt leak at all then.

My VAG-COM doesnt work, was going to try karls leads but my leads wont come out with the plug removal tool! We got one off (the easy one on the edge) and replaced it with one of karls and it did seem a tad better which would point to crap leads, but didnt want to pull the others off for fear of fudging them up! So i need one of those long hollow spark plug removal tools that will go over the leads and just undo the plugs. But im going to try and get some of the big chunky ones from Dub Power, 10mm i think they are.

Not much point coming over guys, its not running right :( its running like a bag of schite! We have suspisions of my plug leads, they are blue but dont say anything on them other than silicon leads, they are also smaller than karls magnecors. Im gunna try resetting the ECU first as it might just be confused, hopefully that will sort it as the ECU will learn again with the more air coming in. Other than that im thinking new leads, them big fcuk off chunky ones that Pete at Dub Power sell ought to do the job!

Oh that goes without saying Jim!

Nearly there now! Everything is done apart from the fuel regulator which me and karl will do tomorrow then we can fire her up! :D
-
Well thats everything done apart from the fuel regulator which me and karl will do tomorrow morning and then start her up! Looks 8) And what you cant see underneath: Just need to properly secure the cone and maf in the bumper somewhere and hide the rest of the piping!

Sounds interesting, but you would still have to wash the bloosy car! The way he was saying he hates washing cars but not anymore thanks to this miracle stuff sounds like it stops the car getting dirty full stop which is boolarks!

Yep that sounds pretty similar to what Andy was telling me Kev. Here is a pic of it: Its a beast! I got some 6mm fuel pipe and the only size vacuum hose i could get hold of which is 1/8" it fits but its a bloody tight squeeze so i dunno if i need bigger? Also is 6mm right for the fuel pipe? Again it goes on but with a squeeze but the standard pipes do look a bit chunkier so im thinking maybe its 8mm after all? Dave couldnt remember when i rang him!

Is that available from Halfrauds mate? I dont know tbh, the halfords near me has always been pretty w*ank at stocking anything! I got mine from a local car parts/accessories/audio place.

Get a fooking great long pole on the end of it for more leverage! Also try some plus gas instead of wd40, i used it when doing all my suspension bushes and it worked a treat!

Engine water level dropping - What to check for?
herisites replied to yogiontour's topic in Engine Bay
I was going to suggest thermostat housing, i took mine off to replace the thermostat the other day and the housing basically fell apart in my hands! If it just had the stat changed that doesnt mean it had the housing changed so still worth checking imo. Also if your expansion tank cap is black go to vw and order a newer blue one. -
Will tehy take as long as your ED38 pics Rob? Yeah possibly  The charger might/might not be working today now as karl sadly couldnt make it, but he is coming tomorrow morning. However i am going to try my darn hardest to get it running today, there's not a lot left to do its just this fuel regulator thingy im a bit miffed with!

Respray's arent always necessary really, everyone seems to think that their car needs a respray just because the paint is looking a bit tired. A full respray will cost £1-2k which is a lot of money, so why not just get the dents pulled, get the rust repaired either a big job on the whole panel or just smart repaired for example and then get the rest of the paint machine polished. Scratches will appear reduced from machine polishing.

There's no reason why not, the only thing that would stop it would be if there is a part we need that i dont have but i am pretty sure i have everything. I was going to update it properly but may as well say it all now. I got my new stat housing yesterday (the correct one this time ) and installed it with a 70 degree stat i got off Jon (cheers mate) and re-installed the rad and all pipes etc and filled with G12 and de-ionised water from the top rad hose until it came to min mark in expansion tank. I obviously cant run the engine yet though to get air out so will have to wait until the charger is done, i also fitted a new fan switch on the rad just in case as well as i dont think my speed 1 fan was coming on when it should. So thats my cooling sorted out (hopefully!) i shat myself lastnight as i went back in the garage after having dinner etc to see a small puddle of coolant on the floor  but i just didnt tighten the jubilee clip on the bottom rad hose enough  The charger is properly secured now with the belt installed. I had to space the charger bracket out a tad with some washers as the alternator pulley was touching it but now it doesnt and the pullies all line up. I also fitted the first silicon hose, the 90 degree elbow coming out the inlet and down the carbon canister hole, bloody tight though  even with some of the elbow cut down its still squeezed in there! I have got a big long bit of flexible air ducting and have fitted the MAF and cone filter to it, but i think i need another joiner to fit it to the silicon elbow. So really all thats left to do is fit the rest of the piping, install the fuel regulator (i dont know what im doing with that really so will wait for karls help!), change plugs and fit decat pipe (needs the angle grinder taking to it i reckon!) then put it all back together and fire her up :D Once she's warm and been taken for a spin and all is well im going to give her an oil and filter change. I took some pics so will post them up a bit later on.

Bloody hell small world! Yeah i had the zetec s before this, but then i saw the light! I have always liked dubs just never started off with one, the corrado is my all time fav car so had to own one so sold the fezzy and got this! Dont really see Dan so much, i see him because he lives at the bottom of my road but dont really do anything with him.
-
I have no idea mate, with the rotrex its not so much about figure but more when it comes in and how. I have kept the outlet of the charger at 50mm for as long as i could to keep the air compression for more low down torque! When its running i am going to get it tested for boost, AFR, and might as well get power as well so i know what its doing, at the moment i will be in the same boat as CrazyDave!

Yes i did have a motorhispania when i was 16! Tommy long, would tha be Tom Longstaff by any chance? Nah i work, well worked as i have just finished to go back to uni, for Unilever at Colworth Park.

I live on Hayway. Tbh you wont have seen it for a little while as its been off the road due to the insurance running out so i bought my £100 polo to get me about. I work in Sharnbrook but i jump on the bypass so i wouldnt really drive past wymington road. I hardly drive around rushden anyway as all my mates and the gym i go to are in kettering so im either there, at home or at work!
-
Hmm interesting not seen that before! I would imagine that would be a completely custom job, the bracket i have got is supplied by Storm Developments (although their ones should fit properly!) but i got mine direct from their supplier in Denmark. Tbh if you have the skills to knock up a strong enough bracket you could put it pretty much anywhere in line with the pullies. I cant make up my mind whether i like where that one is or not, its kinda sleeper as you dont see it but at the same time i like opening the bonnet and seeing a supercharger
-
Hi mate, not seen you on here before! Where abouts in rushden you from? Do you have a rado? Not finished the charger yet :( its kinda bolted on but i cant put my car all back together yet until i have my new thermostat housing, i went vw today to get it to find they ordered the wrong part  so tomorrow or thursday i should get it all back together and friday karl is coming back round to help finish it off! So i will be able to answer your question by the weekend hopefully! As for the whine, the rotrex chargers are pretty much silent! The Vortech chargers that most guys have is very noticable but i have hear a vr witha rotrex on and couldnt hear it!

Oh yeah definately cheaper but dunno if it was cheap enough for the hassle! I dunno what else to do whilst the front end is off really, its the cooling im worried about so new pump, stat and the fan control thing on the rad and i think it will be good to go. I feel a bit wasted today as i dunno what i can be gettin on with!
-
Cheers Mic, yeah i cant wait either! I am a big worrier when it comes to my engine running etc hence why i thought i would change the pump and stat and like i said its a bloody good job i did! I just want to get other work done when i can afford it so i know it will last even longer!! But atleast it will stay cool now  I rang Andy at Storm Developments to ask about this custom fuel regulator thingy i need to use and i told him about all the customising we had to do and he reckons i got old prototype stock which wasnt quite bolt on! He told me that the kits they sell now should be a black bracket (mines grey) and definately are a simple bolt on affair  oh well its kinda on now
-
Cheers jon. Hurry up and find it then!!
-
 no chance of me ever gettin bored of polishing mate, when its done i will be wanting to clean it every time i go out so it will look good as it goes past everyone  Cheers mate! Yeah my team sure have made me proud, i really appreciate their help i would certainly have been lost without them there! Im also looking forward to seeing it supercharged form  Cheers Jim, well i enjoy working on my car and i like learning new things and it saves me no end of money, the water pump for example would have been a big job at a garage but it was really easy to do and now i know that! Yeah i was glad i did it!! And yeah the front was piece of pizzle to take apart really, dunno why i was worrying about it at all really and it made the jobs SOOOOOO much easier its great! Not that much to do no (hopefully) but just need a new stat housing before i can get the car running. I would like to get it ALL finished when karl is here not just the charger and then i carry on with the stat and coolant etc as ideally i would like karl there to start it up and take it for its first drive!
