Just assumed all mk4 24v's would be equiped witha/c. just checked and your right, smart arse!! (Cheers) What about the air filter then?
-
oh and having removed the air con pump what size belt do i need? (part no) Thanks....
-
What air filter do I need? Will an induction kit for a mk4 golf 4mo fit? Only thing I havnt got now. Thanks,
-
Was refering to James, aka boost addict!! Sorted then, air pump and valve are going to scrap heaven. Thank you for your advice all! :salute:
-
Just noticed in your thread Dutch that you have the sec air pump installed where the original air box was, have you since removed it? Why? Sorry for all the questions! Will be a while before I can afford expensive go faster bits so need to get it working as standard first! Unless you want to donate your turbo and I'll find the money for the rest of the bits
-
Will be getting the mount welded up, sorry if I was abit vauge on the phone Chris, had literally just rolled the hoist away as you rang. Is there enough room to keep the air pump? If so I'll leave it on, must be somewhere to squeeze it in. I thought it was just there for the cats, but if it carries out other functions then I'll try to keep it. Not sure what air filter i need yet.. just remembered.

Thanks for the reply, that aux air inlet jobby is the only thing I'm unsure about at the moment, such a relief to be handing it over to someone to sort the electrical side out for me. I could do it, bar the ecu stuff, but I'd take ages and would not do as good of a job as a pro. Dont know that much about engines really, just read the manuals, forum posts and ask people if unsure then get stuck in!! Hope you get yours back from the body shop soon and get it runing sweet, I'm sure you'll get there soon enough, I know only too well how these projects can end up just dragging on without you really realising. Thanks,
-
Its just not good enough James!! :nono: So, still not sure what to do with it, I can have the ecu reprogrammed to get past these issues, but I thought it was normal to delete the sec air pump, so I have, then I just assumed you'd block the aux air inlet off as well...??

Thanks for the info Dutch, you must have posted while I was typing my post out.

Thanks for the reply James, need to have a look at servo feed - cant think what it looks like.. well actually, does it go on the front right hand side of the inlent mani?? I knew the bracket for the mount was wrong as soon as I saw it. Easy to do. Think I'll remove the EGR valve completely and make a blanking plate for the hole left on the head. Now know what I need to do for the engine mount - looking at a pic on Dutch's thread, a bit needs welding on to extend the front mount so it bolts onto the block, so the gearbox isnt taking all the strain. See half way down this page: viewtopic.php?f=11&t=43338&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=15

Thanks for all the positive comments guys. Didnt get a chance to do anything tonight, had to visit a breakers after work, I managed to snap the power steering hose, I was undoing the banjo bolt on the power steering pump, wasnt looking and the metal pipe twisted and broke the end off :mad2: Very expensive part too (mind you isnt every VW part...?), the one I picked up was off a mk3 Golf VR6 and looks slightly different, however the front part is the same so if needs be I'll cut the section out i need and use some high pressure oil hose and some clips to join them together. I really need to get this mechanically done this week as I'm off to Greece for 5/6 days on sunday for work, so need to get it on its way to have downpipe done on saturday or it'll hold me up by a week or more. Nothing like abit of pressure!! Guy who's doing the wiring is happy to arrange moving the car around for me while I'm away - he's got a mate with a flat bed, who's pretty cheap. So if my plan works out, get it all in and bolted up this week, get it trailered to exhaust place sat, fly out to Athens on sun, back by friday and collect my running 24v C on sat... :D Still plenty that can go wrong, but I've got a positive outlook! Will post pics of any progress as soon as it happens. When its all done I'll post a break down of all the costs involved for those thinking about doing it - really not as bad as you'd think, wish I'd done this before trying to rebuild my VR...

Hi, I've taken the plunge and gone for a 2.8 24v. Managed to get it trial fitted today just have some questions to ask. where would this cut hose have gone? Do I remove this completly or just block the hole off? what to do with the hoses/tubes going to it? Can I use the standard hoses to go through the throttle body? I guess I should have removed this bracket?? Do I just need to put a sleeve / spacer in the open bit where the threaded part of the bolt is exposed? Thanks in advance

I'm afriad the charger had to go... :( Think a turbo might find its way on to the new lump at some point though. All of it bar the wiring. Got a chap lined up to do it all who really knows his stuff, and is sorting the ECU out for me. Getting the downpipe fabricated up by a place in Bristol. Depending on how much time I get this week I'm hoping to have it back on the road in two weeks time. :D I started today at 11 after picking up an engine hoist, manged to get the new block in by by about half seven, kept having to stop due to the rain. Not that bad really, worst job by a mile was getting the three bolts out of the exhaust flange where the downpipe bolts onto the cat, had to hacksaw all three bolts out, with barely any room lying under the car in the wet and dark. Everything else was easy in comparison. Need to get driveshafts bolted up, water hoses done then its off to have downpipe and wiring done! Pic's of todays fun: Original flywheel, clucth and gearbox going on to 24v lump And in!!

Its been a while, engine rebuild was unsuccesful, it lasted about 800 miles of sub 3000rpm driving, seemed strong, quiet, not smokey, but was runing very rich. I parked her at my parents before going on holiday and when I came back I went to move it but it cut out shortly after starting and never ran again.... :( I've started a new job so I've had a company car which had made me lazy, but now things are back on track! Picked up a 2.8 24v 4motion lump yesterday... :D So its out with the old, and in with the new. Will get picks up soon.

Hi Dutch, great thread, loving your work! I'm going to be fitting a 24v lump this weekend all being well, picked up some useful tips reading through your thread. Have you got the car back now? Be good to see some pics. Did you ever manage to get the diagnostics working? Cheers,

Welcome aboard! Cant help though sorry, unless you can find out where the part number is stamped and check that. vagcat.com for your part numbers. :)

I have a spare tensioner I can pop in a jiffy bag if you need one. PM me if you want it.

Just let them over take then tailgate the f**k out them with your full beams on. I hate tailgaters, I only ever do it to people who have done it to me. Revenge is SWEEEET. :)

How did you get on?

I have now started a get the Corrado back on the road plan... Just made a list of the things I'll need and get done - last time I honed the bores myself, was successful in the past on 4 cyl engines, may have been this time but it dosnt look like it, so I'll be getting a Engine reconditioning firm to do it this time round - £12 per cyl. I'll get the head properly re-conditioned - was a second hand low mileage one that went on last time, said around £160 for that. Then if I want them to bolt the block and head together another 3 hours labour @ £48p/h - not including parts. Last time I didnt bother with ARP bolts, going to use them this time, head and rod. My list of all work and bits required including oil and sundries stands at £820... :(

Cool. Lot of effort for a car that has caused you so much grief!!
-
I think I may just go for a 2.8 as they are fairly plentiful, would be another 2.9 ideally though. I wonder how much it would cost to have a 2.8 bored out to a 2.9 and use my pistons in that... hmmm.
-
There is loads of mod's I'd love to do - problem is a lack of funds lately, still got offers of over seas work coming up which is always good for the bank balance. Ideally I'd go R32 - get it all running myself then take it to Stealth and get them to fit a spacer and the V9 and map it all, so much money though. I'll pull the head off next weekend and have a look. Been wondering if I'd notice a difference in performance if I went for a 2.8vr.....? Really I just want to find a decent second hand engine, fit a spacer gasket and aquamist (really should have done that to start with... :? ) and away i should go. Oh and Charlie, good work my man, you have to take me out in VRG when she's turbo'd!!!
