  1. I was in a similar position to you when I bought my C. 21, with 4 years of driving, I was a named driver under my Mum previously so I had no no-claims bonus. I also had a company car at the time. I had/have not had any accidents/convictions. I was v.pleased with Elephant. I paid £1080 for their 10 month bonus Accelerator (Gives you 1 years no-claims after 10 months - which some insurance companies might not accept!). I've not got a 12 month policy with them for just over £800 fully comp. I have looked around at other insurance and they are a lot more expensive than Elephant for me. The other quotes were in the £1500+ range.
  2. Is it possible to fix/improve this? With the good weather I love driving round with the windows open (sod the air-con) to hear the VR do its stuff. But the sounds of the glass rattling when closing the door is awful!

    ISV

Are you sure your not getting the ISV confused with the MAF? I know you can unplug the MAF and the car should still run. I have not heard this being done with the ISV...
  4. Noticed that your in Surrey......I have a spare MAF that you could borrow while your sourcing a replacement. I don't know the part number off the top of my head (I'm at work) but it's the later type MAF. Let me know if your interested. Dan
  5. A red clean looking red VR6 Auto parked next to me last night at Rainbow Leisure Centre in Epsom.
  6. I couldn't remove my handrake cover either. I gave up in the end. Maybe I'll try again this weekend.
  7. I think I read that the F1 GSD3's don't come in that size.....anyone?
  8. Ok, I just found this thread. Check the 2nd post from Guy - it has the contact details. I think I'll be giving Keith a call when my wallet can afford it as my aircon needs a look at too :? update - Just realised your in Bath so Weybridge aint too local for you
  9. I remember Guy Hartley mentioned someone in Weybridge who was supposed to be pretty handy with Davia air-con systems. I have a feeling the contact details are somewhere on the forum so a search might help.
  10. The parts (shocks, springs, b/stops & top plates) came to about £560 inc VAT i think - that was from Stealth. I'm sure you could find the parts cheaper elsewhere..... I had other work done while I was there so I got charged for 6 hours labour but I think they quoted me 3 hours to do the suspension. The hourly rate is £40. Needless to say I'm skint......but it was worth it
  11. I just got back from Stealth with a new set of Koni T/A's and H&R springs (previously had a standard setup). I was concerned about the ride being too harsh as I have quite a few speed bumps and naff roads in my area. I am v.chuffed with the result - the ride is not much harsher than standard but the handling is soooo much better as kevhaywire & others have said... :D :D
  12. Looks like i've done well compared to some! In 18 Months: Battery Front Top Mounts Oil/filter Thermostat Coolant flush Coolant hose Set of refurbished solitudes Mods: AMD remap Lupo wipers Gavin's headlight loom Head unit & speakers I'm going to Stealth soon for Koni TA's & H&R springs along with new bushes, top mounts etc.
  13. I was due to have a new suspension setup (Koni & HR) and a service last week at Stealth. I phoned them up the day before to confirm all was ok and was told that the springs had not yet arrived. Needless to say I wasn't impressesed - I had the day booked off work. I am now booked in for March, but I am wondering whether to cancel. I decided to try Stealth because of their good reputation... Is it worth sticking to my March booking? Have I just been unlucky?

    AMD?

I tried AMD last year for a chip & service. I was happy with the chip but agree with what Gavin says - they seem to be into newer cars & quick mods. I'm trying Stealth for some work next week (Koni TA's & H&R's & new bushes/top mounts). I'll let you know what I think....
  15. Looking good :) I used to own a black Driver, looking at your photos makes me miss it!
  16. I've also seen a couple of police cars on the A3 recently - around the Weybridge junction. Time to be careful...

    VR6 engines

I seem to remember someone from the forum mentioned that the VR6 was also fitted to a Merc van, don't know the capacity or state of tune. Anyone know anything else about it? Must be pretty rapid for a van.
  18. My aux belt has been screeching when cold. You could try sprinkling some talc on it to diagnose - worked for me
  19. Does anyone know about the upcoming changes to the law and radar detectors? There is very little online about it, but there's something here I have been tempted by a Beltronics radar detector (from the US) but if it will be illegal in 6months time it's not worth it. Anyone got any idea on Road Angels and the legality of them? They use GPS which is fine, but also have the radar detector which will be illegal at some point. I wonder if the ability to turn-off the radar detector will be enough in the eyes of the law...?? So can anyone spill and beans on what our Big Brother government has in store??
  20. Pablo, I have noticed a similar noise recently. It is very faint with the radio on at normal volume and for a couple of weeks I thought I was hearing things  After 'bigpants baby's' suggestion I think he might be right....it does sound like the central locking pump.
  21. My C is standard apart from a K&N panel filter and an AMD remap. There was a definate improvement in power, throttle response and driveability. Fuel consumption also improved. AMD's figures showed a 15bhp increase which I'm sceptical of (as others are with AMD's figures), but either way the car pulls better. Something I've been wondering recently is can another company remap an AMD chip? E.G. say I fit a Schrick could/would Stealth remap an AMD chip?
  22. Just been watching The Top 100 Cars on Men & Motors. They had the corrado at number 76 8) after the Citreon DS :pukeright: Unfortunately they only spent a minute on it - they didn't seem to go into as much detail as the other cars.... I think it might be repeated again tomorrow night.
  23. Found a post by dr_mat on this thread that seems to backup this theory:
  24. Roger, just to make things more confusing for you..... I was always under the impression that you should expect a change in the RPMs/running after disconnecing the MAF on a warm engine. I do no believe this is the case for ALL engines, just most. When I disconnect my MAF i get no change......but I still assumed it was dead so bought a new one. I installed the new one expecting more power/smoother delivery but it drove exactly the same (yes I reset the ECU). I also read posts from a couple of people on here who have found the same. And i'm sure someone explained that if it runs the same after disconnecting the MAF it does not necessarily mean its dead. I believe this was only newer engines. I know my engine is running ok - I got it rolling roaded at 207bhp (after a chip) and the delivery is smooth. I disconnected the MAF and went for a drive it felt a bit rougher and slightly down on power....but not particularly noticable. Can someone else back me up on this? I'm not sure if i'm 100% correct but I don't want you to waste your ££ unless you need to. If I get time later I'll try searching for the relevant post(s).
