  1. Did you change the fuel filter too?
  2. Having just spent the morning phoning loads of companies on the first page I finally got a comprehensive quote with protected no claims and mods declared for £350 with Brentacre :D Genuine guys who obviously know their stuff when it comes to VW's which makes a change from typical call centres who after taking down loads of details tell you 'we don't do modified'

    Blower controls

If you remove the same trim you took off to replace the blower and look towards the bottom middle of the dash. Whilsts sliding the selector back and forth you should see a steel cable moving some cogs. One of your cogs is probably broke and so not turning when the cable moves. Apparently new cogs are no longer available from VW so you'll need to raid the scrappies.
  4. I just got my renewal quote in from Norwich Union. £546 TPFT  This is for a 28 year old, no accidents or convictions, driving 10 years and 9 years NCD driving a 1.8 16v. My brother at the same address, less NCB and with a VR6 is £200 less with another company! I don't know if this is how they are getting rid of their TPFT customers but I'll not be back with them.

    Blower controls

Are you getting air out from one setting but can't change to another? Is it early or late style heater controls?
  6. I can't believe they're talking about prison sentences for convoys on the day it's reported non violent prisoners are to be released to free up space. :cuckoo:
  7. 1.1 mk2 Fiesta. I remember I could fill the tank up for £17!
  8. You have two fuel pumps. The lift pump is in your tank and the main pump is underneath the car, towards the rear drivers side. From memory the lift pump is ~£20 and the main pump ~£100. If your unsure which it is start with the lift pump. It's worth doing the fuel filter as well.
  9. I had a look for something similar last year but had no joy. That looks like it'll do the job! Some better pics here http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280125138429
  10. A bit off topic but possibly the best place to ask, can anybody recommend somewhere to get the allignment checked? Verve is just up the road but I think they look for ~£130. I was going to post this in the ScottishVag site but still waiting for my account to be activated 1 month later! Cheers
  11. The keyring arrived today and is pretty cool 8) Good service as well!
  12. Vardo, since you were on the SVAG stand I assume that you've somehow managed to register on their site. How did you manage that? I've tried a few times and although I receive my password and log in, I never get the email with the link to confirm registration. I've tried sending admin an email using a link from the site but I get a failed delivery each time.
  13. It's probably only a thermal fuse thats blown on the side of the blower. Do a search and you'll find a guide. It will probably cost about £1 rather than £40ish for a blower motor.
  14. You can get a parcel rubber from VW. I can't remember what I paid but around £1.50 I think. If you are getting air through your vents but not your demister it's likely a cog is broken on your heater box. If you take out your heater controls just follow the wire from the sliding selector to the heater box and you'll find the broken cog or snapped wire. Apparently the cogs are no longer for sale from the dealers as a separate item and you have to buy the complete heater box which is very expensive. Passats etc made around the same time supposedly use the same system so try to get a cog from a scrappy. If you find a spare one pass it on to me :D I've set mine to stay on demister by manually turning the cog but it somehow manages to jump back even though the cog is broke :confused4:

    Rear calipers 93>?

I was originally looking for mk4 calipers but couldn't find any at a decent price. £80 sounds good though so I'll give some breakers a ring.
  16. I need a pair of rear calipers and just had a look on GSF. There different calipers listed for 93>, what's the difference?
  17. I loved that TT when I seen it at ultimate dubs. I'll just go and stick on a brew to watch a slideshow of the pics.
  18. I had just checked the GSF website and seen they had upper and lower parts listed. Thanks for the info, I'll phone them with the part numbers tomorrow.
  19. I went to VW to order new top mounts etc. which I'll change when I replace the springs. It was going well but the guy in the parts department wasn't sure which part I needed for the rear. Can anybody confirm which part/s I need. I reckon only 13 but thought I better check. Cheers
  20. I went for Greenstuff pads on my 16v as Pagid no longer make the fast road pads. Just done my first 100 miles with them and they are excellent.
  21. I was there til around 1in the afternoon on saturday. Seen yours in the SVAG display, very nice. I spent all Friday cleaning mine and it poured down on the way there :(

    16v Fuel economy probs

I serviced mine and it's running much better. I'm still getting erratic fuel readings from the computer. One day it'll sit at 32 mpg and another 14. With it running so well I'm reluctant to spend the money changing sensors when there are other things like suspension and callipers that need attention. Nice link. :)
  23. I've done some more searching and I reckon I'll upgrade the top mounts to VR6 ones which are apparently a better design. There are some posts on this a few years back and part numbers are here http://www.clubgti.com/forum/showthread.php?t=17763&highlight=top%20mounts
