    288 v 312

Also the factor of wheel size limitation comes into it i.e. Brembo's are 17in min.
  2. I wouldnt go as low as 45 profile. Ive got 195's on my standard wheels and TBh I prefer the feel and look of 205's.
  3. I doubt it, its like putting a fake exhuast pipe on the car and you cant really use Evo and Scooby owners as a good gauge
  4. Its copper washers and from what I can see they are designed to crush. I was going to do the tight then 1/8th turn but wanted to check. Im sure that principal whould be fine for the connection to the hard line as well.
  5. Flight training, good luck with that. Always wanted to be a pilot hence why I didnt want to end up fixing them for a living. Funnily enough Im in Aberdeen and have been for the last 5 years.
  6. Missed this thread over the weekend but you have made the right choice although I wouldnt put 10k into a Corrado, not at once anyway. I would think carefully about engine choice at the moment. If there is nothing wrong with the one you have at the moment then dont worry too much about engine conversions. Your car sounds like it is good condition as it is so a simple brake upgrade would be good. If your going 24v route get an R32 engine if you can. Remapped ones seem to be close to 260-270bhp where as remapped 2.8 like mine is 220bhp ish. Ive got a sachs standard clutch and it fine. Be careful with firms that do conversions and do a lot of homework. Im a little dissapointed with the finishing touches and some aspect of my PSI conversion that I know I would have taken more care of it I had done it myself. Would also agree with the comment of the Mk5 Gti over the Mk4 R32 or how about the 4mo like mine and keep the Corrado as well if you do want a change. What you looking to do in the RAF? Ive been down to Cranwell a few times when I was looking at becoming an engineering officer but decided it wasnt for me.
  7. Looked through my downloaded Bently manual for a specfic torque for the brake unions on between the front caliper and hose. Ive got some DG braided hoses for the 288 calipers and was looking to get them connected up. Is it just a case of tightening till the copper washers are squashed or is there a specific torque?
  8. Well I used the car properly for the first time in 3 months this weekend. 300+miles going to Knockhill then to our race track for some work. Id forgotten how bloody qucik this is A to B. Really needs tracking set up though and the 288's on. Had a play with a guy in an new Elise on the way home and he let me by, ironically he was holding me up in the corners so I dont think he was too confident. Still felt good though and it wasnt any faster in a straight line. I put some dark smoke Laminx on my spare rear lenses. Works well I think. Good shiney finish to them. Cannot wait for the new wheels to arrive. I going to fit some -15mm front spring plates as it still feels a touch high at the front.

    288 v 312

Yeah the 288's are fine as the last time I tracked a car it was a Mk3 VR with these and they were fine. My Corrado brakes are shocking at the moment though. 288's it is then maybe some track tyres for the Speedlines 8)
  10. Love the attention to detail here.

    288 v 312

Exactly what Ive been told before now that I remember. My old Passat ran 288's and the 4mo has 312's and come to think of it the Passat was as ggod if not better. I'll through the 288's on and get some good pads I think. If I were going for brakes whcih meant not fitting the standard wheels then I would be going for the LCR 4 pots as youve mentioned.

    288 v 312

I was going to finally fit my 288 front brakes however I got to thinking about the 312's. Is there much of a difference between the two in performance? Obviously keeping the 288's mean I can run the Speedlines as well which is a bonus therefore if there is not much difference then I'll stick to the 288's.
  13. Green is never a popular colour either for cars in general, it's unlucky :) ask a second hand car salesman  I would agree with the list above and also agree with the statement and Ive got a green one!!!!!! Satin Silver is my favourite.
  14. Personally Id rather get a similar mileage 5dr Mk5 Gti for not a lot more. Mk4 R32's as standard are not worth the money IMO. Not really that fast and drink fuel like its going out of fashion. If you want V6 and 4wd get a 4motion. Not quite as competent but less than half the price.
  15. Very impressive, Im guessing your going to be kept busy. I think you might be selling a few LSD's as well.
  16. That does look good. Whats it like for paint chips etc? Alos what happens if you want to take it off, is there residue left? I would presume there are issues if there is rust bubbles to start with. I would consider this as the one thing I dont really like about my car is the colour and Im not one of those polishing types that spend half a day getting rid of my swirls.
  17. Your not wrong, I sold mine to a guy in Utah.
  18. Can this be used / adapted for the 2.8 24v?

    Sill repair

Pics would be better but its sounds like a cut out and repair job. Depends how close it is to the seatbelt anchor point as well. Better to get it done properly than have to do it again in a year or so.
  20. It will be a fair bit of before Im looking and knowing me I will have changed my mind umpteen times by then.
  21. It was but the snow has convinced me the 4mo is too good a car to give up for now. Gives me a chance to save up for the Rocco R now.... 8)
  22. Id say 10/15mm front and 20mm rear. Depends how low the car is.
  23. 10-20mm should be fine.
  24. Its ok tyres off and wheels are sold on anyway
  25. Thats exactly what its like. The Golf is much more refined and even with the Recaro's its a completely different driving position. I took the car out for a blast the other week when it was dry and it feels so much quicker that the Golf. It might not be but I dont care. The Corrado is raw compared to the Golf. Only time I would choose the Golf over the Corrado is in weather like in the photos. I was all for chopping the Golf in for a Mk5 Gti this weekend if Im honest but then realised that the Mk5 is 3 times the cost of this, to me its not 3 x the car and I can use the Golf / Corrado as a temp engine spares car if need be. Plan is to get a 2nd hand Scirocco R20 in a year or so.
