  1. Well this car is trying my patience. I bought a generic Stealth remapped chip and fitted it last night. I swapped chips on the car before and never had any issues. It has the right code etc on it however the car would not fire, it was as if there was no spark. I swapped the chips over again and the car started fine (if a little smokey). A friend came round so I switched the engine of and spoke to him for half an hour. Was going to take the car for a wash but when I turned the ingition on (not to engage starter) I heard some extra clicking form the relay's and the car backfired!!!! When I tried to start the engine it just turned over the same as when the Stealth chip was put in. Pulled the plugs and they were wet so left it for a couple of hours and it did the same. I'll be honest and say I dont have a great knowledge of the igntion on these things. Any ideas? Does it sound like I may have corrupted the ECU when changing chips? Its still got the factory alarm/immobiliser fitted.
  2. What to do is go and check your ECU number first. Its on a sticker on the ECU box usually 9 or so numbers with a could of letter afters wards like CP or AG.
  3. Aye aye, not for from me in Aberdeen. Seems to be a fair few decent Corrado's floating about again. Was it a local car?
  4. Just phoned my insurnace to check and wow Im not sure now, its going to be a whole £30 extra with an agreed value :D
  5. Hell yeah, buy my Aprilla (0-60 3sec) and you'll still have enough cash left for VR as well!!!!
  6. Is that price above per piston?
  7. Yep I had the Revo remap and it was fairly agressive but you get used to it. Mine was lowered about 50mm (wouldnt go anymore than that) with adjustable tie bars. Rear wheels were spaced out to fill the arches. Front is a Leon Cupra R spoiler. If you get one go on Audisport.net and looks for the settings that EssThree put on his car. It doesnt completely get rid of the understeer but helps alot. They dont have the soul that the VR does but there a lot quicker.
  8. Right Ive been waying up the various options if my cylinders has gone oval. Luckily I have been offered a 2nd hand 2.9block. My car has had recent clutch, timing chains and a complelty rebuilt head so the only parts I should really replace are bottom end. 1. I take it I can run this 2nd hand block (assuming its within tolernace) with my original pistons albeit with new rings? 2. What else should I replace at the same time i.e. big end bearings etc and any idea on prices? 3. If I decided to do this myself what is the minimum I will need in terms of engine lifts etc? Since my car has a had some headwork with a decat and 6 branch Im thinking that I may as well through in some Schimmel cams. Ive just bought a generic remapped chip from Stealth for cams, inducation and decated exhaust so I reckon this might work out quite well.
  9. Heres my old one to wet you appetite..
  10. I had one and drove it hard. It was a fair tool. The best you can do is sort out the suspension though as they understeer. I had Konis coilovers and got the car set up properly with some neuspeed ARBs and it would corner at amazing speeds. Still easily the fastest point to point car Ive had.
  11. Thanks, its just plain lazy in my view and never liked it. I was on one tonight that had been done a couple of weeks ago and the tracks where car go were fine but there is still loose chips in between.
  12. Stan will PM you for the guys number, Ive PM'd him on here but Im not sure he comes on here much. At the end of the day the major problem with the 12v is that is has very little low down grunt and with my problem looking like oval bores I really need a 2nd hand block or rebore with pistons. This isnt going to happen for less that £1500 and even then it may happen again plus you would be stupid to not do chain etc when the heads off. For a fixed 12v that Im happy with and running my head Im looking at £2k I reckon. I'll be honest and say that the VR is not really that fast anyway, it needs at least 30-40bhp more than standard. For a 24v drive in drive out conversion on my car Im looking at £3.5k-4kmax with me getting the engine & manifold back to sell on. Should get at least £200 for the head as its effectively new plus £100 for the manifold then a few other bits plus that will give me 230bhp with more low down torque. As I said Im (hopefully) not selling soon so resale doesnt matter (pointless in the current market anyway) but I know if I was looking to buy Id rather have a 24v than a 12v, its simply a far better and superior engine. Originality counts when you have a mint low mileage car thats going to stay that way but only when it comes to resale.
  13. My car always gets about 34-36mpg on the motorway.
  14. Just imagine what its like on the bike then :mad2:
  15. Im with you there. The cars not a minter and Im hopefully going to be keeping it for a while so Im not bothered about resale. I know the engine is so much better than the 12v. Thanks I was thinking of doing that but couldnt remember who had bought it, should have bought it when I had the chance and I would have saved a bit of money.
  16. Dont normally like light interiors but thats great. Just work very well.
  17. BBS are ok but would look better if the centres were a light grey colour. Super T's look better though.
  18. Plugs seem a bit "wet" to me or a tad oily. Should be a grey/brown finish.
  19. I have the heated Recaro black leather interior on my car and if Im honest Im not too fussed with leather. I was thinking about selling and just swapping for some standard black cloth. How much are the standard black interiors going for nowadays?
  20. Just thinking would that sort of money get me some turbo action?
  21. I bought my car about a month or so ago, its a 2nd car and I had the intention of keeping it for a while and doing a few things to it with respect to the engine. Now this may be happening sooner that I thought as it would appear that I might have oval bores on 1 & 6. My intention was to save up a but of money and look at a 24v and possibly an R32. I dont have a garage and live in a town centre so it would be a impossible for me to do anywork myself therefore i contacted PSI. Im looking at £3.5k-£4K for a 2.8 conversion. The car is quite good with leather, coilvers, decat, exhaust etc but it does need some paint to be mint. Im just wary of putting that much money into a car so it it worth it or should I just get a 2nd hand 12v and save £2.5k ish? How much money would I get for the head as it has been skimmed, crack tested, gas flowed, and had inlet and exhaust port enlarged slightly, and all ports polished. The head has also had new tappets, new brass valve guides, new stem seals and all valves have been re seated etc Is it really that much better and if going this route should I just wait and get the R32? Ive had a 4motion Golf and it was brilliant.
  22. Lucky boy, yep Im looking into it as well. How much if you dont mind me asking?
  23. Aye thats a very good price. Ive enquired and it going to be possibly nearer to £4k for a drive in drive out for a 24v conversion.
  24. Is it completely white? Mine is mainly white but you can see the blue tinge to it. Is it using any water? Just do what Ive done and inspect the plugs first.
