what passat calipers do you mean? 280 or 288? using mk4 passat 288's on mine and theyre just the same as late golf vr6 with a banjo.

other things to consider when lowering the corrado!!
Lufbramatt replied to Chris Langdon's topic in Drivetrain
the order in the pic is correct AFAIK. -
have you actually driven another one yet to compare?
-
dont think the MOT man uses that, he'll just stick the probe up the tail pipe. The CO sniffer pipe is for when your tuning the engine to give a specific CO reading (ie not running too rich/lean) as it gives you a reading before the cat.

Anybody know of a "GOOD" garage in Kent, canterbury area?
Lufbramatt replied to kwala's topic in Suppliers Forum
second this, they only use genuine parts too. -
o no :( someone did this to my passat literally a week after id finished the engine conversion- id polished it up all nice and was mega chuffed with it hooning around wales on holiday and some nobber keyed all the panels down the drivers side, really upset me :mad2: hope it gets sorted out ok!

i had good results on the passat by folding a layer of self adhesive aluminium tape around the bottom cm or so of the door card that fits into the door pod, the tape is "slipperier" than the vynil so seems to not suffer from the sticktion effect. got the tape in Wickes, think its meant for sealing gaps in insulation etc in roofs. its very thin and can be folded into a sharp crease which it holds.

nice idea :) what glue did you use to stick it on the pillars, evo stick? and how did you go about doing the headlining? is it glued or stiched on?

first ones get m vote they look ace, really update the looks of the rado.

between the light body and the glass theres a rubber gasket which shrinks and hardens over time thats why they steam up. best off splitting the light as said above, let it dry out then seal it up with a bead of silicone when you put it back together. if you ever need to split the light in the future you can just run a scalpel round the joint.

i think you can put a late polo stub axle straight on the rado beam then put the golf 4 hub and brake setup on that. theres a good guide with part numbers etc on clubgti.
-
yes that will work if theyre the 105mm diameter top caps, the late VR6 ones used a 92mm top coil so theres another variable there too! although if you fitted vr top mounts youd be back to square one as VR top mounts sit 10mm or so higher than valver top mounts to start with- i changed my B3 to vr top mounts and on -40mm springs it went from sitting level to reverse rake- hence why i had to fit the lowering caps to bring it back level.
-
pretty sure they wont work on a valver, unless youre valver has VR6 top mounts fitted, as the bearing is completely different- valver top caps have a raised bit in the middle wheras VR topcaps are flat :( worth trying tho just in case?

best OEM wheel VW ever made IMO. i want a set of 5-stud ones for the passat but theyre uber rare in the uk :(
-
sell them to me? ;)

cool! reminds me of the film Tron :D

reverse switch is under tha black plastic cover on top of teh selector tower on teh gearbox, it gets gunked up over time, pull the cover off and clean it out with some switch cleaner etc and pop the cover back on.
-
rub of the oxidation with some red scotch pad then warm them up carefully with a hot air gun, brings the oils in the plastic back up to the surface and makes them black again. then protect with a couple of coats of AG bumper care etc and it stays black for ages.

just get a set of osram nightbreaker +90% bulbs, £11.49 a pair off ebay at the mo :) better light output without the masive amount of extra heat and current draw.

good work! glad to see your using copper nickel, in my last job i was working for a piping company and we used to supply copper nickel pipe to several navies around the world to pipe seawater around warships! its the best material for the job by far, much better than stainless for corrosion resistance against salt water spray.

early vs late rear spring uncompressed lengths
Lufbramatt replied to boost monkey's topic in Drivetrain
id have to check the part numbers of the struts them selves too, as on a golf mk3 vr6 strut the body of the strut is shorter too (so the spring platform is slightly nearer the hub), not sure if the vr6 corrado used passat strut bodies too, or just the passat spring. otherwise the passat coilies might still be too long for the rado, but surely rado coilies a the higest setting would give you the look you want? ive got a set of stock passat struts in the garage which i could measure if anyone has a set of stock corrado ones to compare against? -
Oh my :notworthy: they are "teh sex", seriously stunning wheels! WANT

does handbrake on/off make any difference to it?

early vs late rear spring uncompressed lengths
Lufbramatt replied to boost monkey's topic in Drivetrain
i see what your saying, but the passat spring there is the VR6 passat spring (92mm top coil) which used exactly the same VR6 type top mounts withy a separate bearing as the late corrados, so the whole assembly should be the same. But yes, the older passat top mounts with the buitl in bearing do sit much lower (id say as much as 15mm), when i changed the springs on mine i also went to the VR6 style topmounts, and although the car was lowered 40mm all round, the back dropped much more than the front and gave it a distinctive reverse rake, so i had to put a set of lowering spring caps in to level it off with the late top mounts. Its a well known fact in passat circles that golf struts are definatly shorter than passat items- you can lower the front of a mk3/4 passat about 30mm just by using STOCK golf VR6 shocks and springs. The passat is just slightly bigger all round :D -

noticed on the part numbers up there for the front springs, the second one down with the 357 part number is a passat B3 front spring- the passats used slightly longer struts and springs up front than the golf mk2 platform (springs are about an inch or so longer on a passat than a golf), which may explain the increased ride height of later cars.
