  1. Hi guys, sorry if this is a bit long I've recently replaced both water flanges after discovering a couple of small leaks causing the engine to overheat. Simple enough job, and all had seemed fine. I've only driven the car about 20 miles since i've replaced them and on these occasions the engine hadn't overheated. Took it for a 20-30 min spin this morning just to see for sure if all was well, but had noticed a couple of things.. Firstly, the car didn't overheat but when i parked up the fan didn't turn on, so i'm not sure what that's all about. Secondly, the top radiator hose felt very pressurised and solid, and from what i could reach the bottom hose felt quite hard too (didn't check the heater matrix hose). I know that these two symptoms have been covered upon searching, but i was wondering how much current was required to kickstart the fan, because i currently have a knackered alternator (waiting on a replacement to arrive) and can only drive for small periods at a time, i've been trickle charging inbetween just so i can enjoy the car for a little bit :nuts: . I tested the battery before i set off and it read around 11.68v with the engine running. Would this also have any affect on the fan? How about the rad hoses or is that a different problem altogether? Ordered a blue expansion cap, thinking about changing the thermostat as i'm not sure when it was last done and i've yet to test the water pump but the car doesn't overheat...i'm just thinking that if i had driven it for longer the pressure could have burst my radiator hoses? Any thoughts? Last question...upon searching people have been advised to buy a rad fan switch - where can i get one of these? part numbers would be great Thanks! :salute:
  2. Did you empty out all of the old fluid and change, or just top up? If the former then you'll probably need to bleed it. Other than that you may need to adjust the tensioner, or the pumps fudged..is it a whiney noise?

    As above, but you may aswell change the cambelt/tensioner whilst there unless it has been done recently 8)
  4. Well it didn't happen, had to cancel at the last minute (thankfully reuben was ok about it). Turns out my spare wheels with good tyres dont fit over my front 280s - silly me for swapping the rears first :bad-words:, plus i had completely overlooked it as I changed the brakes quickly whilst removing the driveshafts. Will need to get some rubberage, then i'll be back! 8) Back on topic - paint them!

  10. It's a common thing to do in the failure of other starting methods (starter motor/battery/etc), and the starter motor isn't involved. I think that when you bump a motor the motion of the wheels sort of act as a starter once the gears/clutch are engaged. No harm in trying - get a friend to push you or roll down a hill and drop the clutch :norty:
  11. You said you would try anything :norty: You should be able to bump it, if it works then your starter motor could be at fault or incorrectly fitted
  12. Have you tried bumpstarting it? Or swearing at it lots?
  13. Mainly around/under the throttlebody and airbox area, check all of the hoses are connected. I think there is a sneaky hose on the dizzy side too, but i doubt that would prevent the engine from firing, all i got from leaving that disconnected was a very lumpy idle :lol:
  14. Also check vacuum hoses - stumped me the other day, but there was a hidden one i repeatedly overlooked :bad-words: Plugged it back in and it fired right away

  18. Aaah, a swift response as always :notworthy: Thanks for the opinions, I hope it will be okay. I'll be sure to keep an eye on the temperature and oil level. Whilst on the subject of air filters, are any better than the K&N for the 16v, or are they all just the same poop? (In which case, i could go OEM) Definitely have to do that once i've got her taxed - i daren't take it out further than the end of my road at the moment! Although if you want to annoy the neighbours sometime.. :norty: Bumming session in the woods? :lol: :lol: :lol: Jim has an insanely fast vr6 - think i'll be doing the fisting from behind :camp: Thought you might like that! :D

  20. Good evening fellow Corradians, It was all going smoothly and to plan. I placed a new engine into my dead C, and all appeared to be running well. Took it for a spin down the road when the oil pressure warning beeped. Fair enough, told my friend to quickly get out of the car and top up a little bit of oil. Just to clarify, i'm not blaming my friend for my wrong doings! If i were silly enough to overfill the oil then I would own up to it! Anyway, I took it up and down the road (not even 1 mile), driving it fairly hard through first and second. Cue lots of smoke and me worrying sick that my rings were shot. Oil was leaking from my airbox..the oil was about 1/2" above the max mark on the dipstick, and upon removal there was a puddle in my airbox and my intake hoses leading up to the TB were soaked. I drained the excess oil and gave the intake components a decent clean and placed it all back - smoked alot at first, but seems to be ok took it up and down the road again (sensibly) with no oil returning to the airbox. I have been reading about the effects of overfilling and am now really worried if I have caused any serious damage. Could anyone please determine: 1) How the oil managed to get into the airbox? is it through a breather hose? 2) Are there any checks I can do to ensure that nothing has been damaged? (Seals, Cat, compression perhaps?) 3) Has anyone had the same problem, and if so did you have to do anything to fix it? 4) Am I being overly paranoid, the excess was burned off and should now be ok? 5) Would I have to replace my oily K&N or would the cleaner be ok? 6) Do I cut my losses and start ALL over again? 7) Would it be adviseable to remove my inlet manifold to clean them? Any help would be greatly appreciated, I'm so worried that all of my time and money have been wasted due to a right muppet! I've been reading about 'Airation' or something which occurs when the oil foams up...I hope this won't be the case :( Thanks, Nick
  21. Good job! I was wondering if you had any clearance issues with the ABF under an early style bonnet. I was always under the assumption that an ABF wouldn't fit? :shrug:
