  1. excellent, thanks for the reply... maybe one day ill take the step into engine management tweaking (although I can imagine spending all night in the car with my laptop connected trying to get the last little hp out of the engine :D ) how long would you say it takes to get everything setup and then conduct some basic form of mapping/error checking? Reason i ask is id love to know if my car is running correctly and if this is something which can be done using the gear you have mentioned? Are you going to GTi international this year? ... you know where i'm going with this dont you
  2. quickie... is it better to use silicone spray AND some general purpose grease? Or just use the silicone spray on the runners and the channels that the white rollers "roll" in ? what about white lithium grease? so confused :confused4: thanks
  3. stumbled on this rather useful site and PDF document which seems to conveniently have VW part numbers for our beloved Corrado  Hope it helps someone and if this post belongs in another place - mods please move it! cheers H http://home.comcast.net/~caudex/corrado/corradoparts.pdf search terms: vagcat alternative EKTA alternative part numbers search
  4. Ok hope this is not a silly question, but would it be possible to get one of those "remapped" ECU's details so one could remap their own vehicle without having to shell out the £300 odd quid that they would charge? I believe compaines like EIP sold VR6 uprated "chips" to get a few more horsies from the motor... (im not talking about the crap chips you get on ebay) Is this possible or even advisable without having the correct tools to alter fueling etc etc... at the same time? just thoughts (i am completly new to anything engine managment related coming from years of K-Jet on my MkII 16v golf - great fun tweaking (troubleshooting!) that :norty: ta
  5. Just been trying to get to the bottom of my window rattle issues (been investigating for the last week!) Look what i found! Basically the right side mount that is bonded to the window which slides up and down the guide/channel had come loose and just dropped to the floor! This explained why the rattle only occurred when the window was UP (as when it went down, the mount squished itself back to the window black blonding material. Drove me mad trying to figure out what was going on) :brickwall: Here i pushed the mount up to look at it better.... obviously there is something missing - the window attached to it! Here you can see the mount as it should fit to the window Also whilst the doorcard was off i put some foam sheet behind the door handle pin which gave a slight knock as it was just hitting the metal skin. Got about 10 sheets of the stuff from poundland...for you guessed it ... a pound :norty: Just stick it on with the UHU super strong glue or some evostick contact adhesive... hope this helps someone else trying to find one of the many causes of window rattle in their Corrado! H
  6. Cheers mate! Yeah i use VAGCAT its just that sometimes it can be difficult to be sure the part numbers correspond to the right bit. Ta and good luck with the rest of your rebuild.
  7. Hi mate, nice car and thread - got a mystic blue storm myself! Just found your thread as i was looking to restore my driver seat bolster. Would you mind posting up a list of the items and their part numbers please (most important one i want is the bolster, but the handbrake cover looks great too - so if you can do all parts you used, that would be great!)? I know you mentioned that you nabbed the last bolster repair (remind me to punch you if i ever see ya  ) but just in case ill pop into VW soon and see if they can get hold of any more... cheers fella H
  8. I just had to put this back on my car. Here is what i found: Went to my local motorfactors (MDC) and bought 12 (yes 12!) number plate fixing pads. Strategically placed them (had to double a few up in some spots) to get the plate holder to fit snugly back on. Also place a few on the lower lip where you can see those little plastic tabs which "hook" over the bottom lip of the hatch (hard to explain - but when you look at it you will know what i mean!) Good luck (and make sure you rub down the hatch with some isoprop to clean off any crap before attempting to get the plateholder to stick on using the fixing pads)
  9. Just found out that the Fidanza flywheel I received from Gripforce was incorrect. I specifically asked for part 187481 which is the correct item for Corrado VR6, but they sent me 186481 which is for a 4.6L FORD!!! very pi$$ed off to say the least... got the fun of having to get the right one delivered ASAP and then more custom charges and then posting the incorrect one back! I will let you know how gripforce deal with the issue...im hoping their good reputation for service wins through...
  10. my 16V would splutter and stutter and find it hard to idle.....upto the point I disconnected the Cold Start Valve (just unplugged the connector) After that it never had any problems - give it a try, you never know! HTH H
  11. excellent news Steve.... how are you finding the car to drive with the 6-branch and other work done? Was it the Raceland jobbie that you bought? I just hope I dont make the car too loud (boomy). Obviously I want that sexy VR6 growl, but only when I press the loud pedal.... dont want it too loud all the time, al-la-chav style! I been so lazy - got loads of pics of all the goodies sitting on my PC, just havnt got round to posting them all up yet. I'll get round to it soon :) EDIT : forgot to add..... I AM REALLY REALLY MISSING MY RADO :(
  12. Spoke to Vince this week. Head was off the car and he said the bores dont look too bad at all (phew!) Hopefully when the sump comes off and he installs the new oil pump he will say everything looks in order down there too.
  13. Hi mate, Not had bores checked yet but Vince will let me know if anything is suss when the engine is beheaded. Got results from my rolling road (wanted to get a benchmark!) Dont think you can get more stock than my results : 192.2 bhp @ 5955 179.6 ft/lb @ 4480 Max Speed Reached : 126.7 mph (....ok so you could have 190bhp and 180 ft/lb! ) Very pleased that its still pumping that out after 130K miles! Hoping the 6-Branch and de-cat will release a few more ponies. Then when funds permit a nice SS zort to free things up a little more. I'll keep y'all updated...
  14. Yup its a normal Corrado VR6 gearbox. I am just getting it rebuilt as its done 130K and could probably do with a bit of TLC. While it is all apart I am getting a Peloquin LSD and 3.68 FD put in... taa H
  15. excellent stuff there! I am getting my 02A g/box rebuilt soon and having a Pelo diff fitted. What transmission oil do you recommend? thanks H
  16. Hi, does anyone know if the plasic clock (instrument cluster) surround differs from early and late spec rado's? I know the dash does, but just wondered if the clock surround was the same or is specific to the late/early dash it comes out of. muchos muchos thanking-you's  H
  17. naaah no bother. I am sure that between you lot, your posts have already helped me out in some shape or form (I abuse that little search button up top too much) Gonna stick some piccies of all the goodies soon. Also getting a 2.9 inlet manifold powder coated black along with the 288 brake carriers n a few ods n sods. Shoud come out nice
  18. Ok, just got back from ECP... Picked up a "genuine" oil pump but not 100% sure its genuine? Their website states genuine on it ... The make is Meyle if that helps and its ECP part number : 323 440 400. Price : £93.91 + VAT Anyone confirm? Also picked up a crank sensor £64.95 + VAT (bloody hell!!!) Was a bit peeved with them as when i called in the morning for prices on the parts, the guy came out with £20 for the sensor! I asked him 3 times if he was sure about the price ... and even got him to confirm the VW part number as : 026 906 433A. Low and behold... i turn up to order the bits and its suddenly £64.95 +VAT muppets!
  19. Stealth charges : CAMCHAIN/TENSIONERS + CLUTCH (price includes parts like clutch, tensioners etc...) approx £750 + VAT i'd do the following whilst its all apart: Repair Kit crank/lower timing case oil seal - 681 981 71 - £24.66 Lever clutch release arm - 02J 141 719 B - £9.67 Screw flywheel fixing bolts (10) - N90539801 - £0.82 each If doing the head rebuild at the same time the total cost (again inclusive of the parts) £1450 + VAT
  20. Just spoke to Vince, Confirmed that coolant sensor housing (plasic housing with three holes!) is not included in the cost of the chains/tensioners. They check the condition of the items when removing and if they need replacing then this is done (but the cost is added to your bill) Shopping list from VW (prices quoted are those from my local VW stealers): Plastic HOUSING 021 121 117 A £22.87 +VAT Temp sender with switch for coolant temp (4 pin blue/white 20mm) 701 919 369 D £22.80 +VAT Temp sensor (ntc engine control 2 pin blue) 025 906 041 A £12.21 +VAT round seal (x3) 903 168 02 £0.87 +VAT each Crank Sensor 021 906 433 A £70.38 +VAT Cam Position Sensor 021 907 601 A £35.30 +VAT would anyone like to confirm the part number for the Crank sensor and CPS are correct for a Rado 95 VR6? thanking you nicely
  21. Excellent - just the kind of info i needed! Keep it all coming 8) Oil Pump - thinking about it, I am probably going to get it done...as you say its pretty important. ECP seems to list gen VAG ones at £93.21 +vat. Anyone know any place cheaper for gen VW pumps? http://www.car-partsonline.co.uk have it marginally cheaper at £90 + VAT Kev (im guessing that is you Cheesewire) ... what would everyday driving be like with the Helix clutch? I use my VR6 as my everyday car so it still needs to be drivable. Also - got any links to part no's / prices / suppliers for the clutch? Thanks for the other info too. Gonna drop Vince a call to see if changing the thermo housing is included in the costs - i dont believe it is. Want to nip down to VW tomorrow and order the other little bits and bobs . Yaay more money being thrown into the car.... oh well, you only live once right?
  22. Hi all, Just wanted to know opinions and suggestions from people who have had chains/clutch done on what else to do at the same time. I have the VR booked into Stealth and Vince will be doing the following: Chains & Tensioners: Confirmed that later style MK4 tensioner will be used :) 1 x Bolt, tensioner for Golf Mk4 top pad 021 109 507B 1 x Tensioner, Golf Mk4 top pad 021 109 509E Head Rebuild : Car is on 130K so is being treated to a standard head rebuild (read that g/flowing a VR head is not really that beneficial?) Question : Next year I will be looking to supercharge the car 8) . Is there any particular headasket I should be getting Vince to put on? i.e is there a particular headgasket which is better to use for a supercharged engine AND will allow me to run the car adequately without the supercharger being fitted right now? Answer : Normal Head Gasket will be fine for s/charged VR Clutch & Gearbox rebuild with Peloquin & Fidanza Obvioulsy the clutch is being done at the same time as chains/tensioners - I am going for a standard Sachs jobbie. I have decided to get the g/box rebuilt to freshen things up and also read good things about converting to a 3.68 FD so have that going in as well. Also got a Peloquin diff being installed and a Fidanza lightened flywheel put on. Yaay Question : Is the sachs clutch fine for dealing with the extra torque/power that fitting the s/c will provide? Answer : SACHS will be fine for around 280ft/lb of torque Raceland 6-Branch & Miltek CAT bypass At the moment I am awaiting my Raceland 6-Branch to be delivered from Strictly dubs (off eBay). I want this prior to handing it over to Stealth as I want to heat wrap it. Question : Does anyone have a contact number for Strictly dubs apart from 01621 778 811? I urgently need to get hold of them as its been over a week since i purchased it and have had no responses to my emails. The phone just rings and rings :( If anyone does - please can you PM me the details. Funny thing was I managed to chat to Simon about a week before making the puchase and got through to him without any problems :confused4: Answer : Got through in the end... not great news but gonna have to live with it. Misc VF Engineering mounts all round (front, rear and g/box) Blue Igniter HT Leads Neuspeed 180 Degree 3 Pole Fan Switch alloy crack pipe (http://www.gruvenparts.com/) alloy tensioner pully 288mm calipers with standard VAG discs and EBC Greenstuff Pads I would ideally like the following done at the same time: (i) Plastic Thermostat housing replaced (ii) Coolant sensors + other sensors replaced at same time (will order them from VAG) (iii) Coolant pipes - trying hard to justify spending over £250 on bloody Samco silly cone pipes! Any alternatives welcome? Question : Apart from a rolling road session, what else do you suggest is wothwhile doing at the same time? You know those little fiddly things which are just easier whilst things are apart! Answer : Bought the following new parts to go on: Oil Pump Crank Sensor Cam Pos Sensor Coolant Sensors Dipstick (old one was manky and a new one is like a fiver from the stealers) Goodridge Braided hoses all round Your input is greatly appreciated! cheers H
  23. Has anyone heard of GAZ coilivers? Or better still anyone got them in their C? Mate of mine was telling me how a fully adjustable set of GAZ coilovers will cost around £500. Just wanna know if anyone here has first hand experience of the company and the quality of the products. Ill post more info as i get it cheers H p.s here is the website... http://www.gaz-shocks.com/
  24. Howdy all, Sounds like excellent work Andy - well done. Been reading through the 11 or so pages of this thread, seems like you have loads of people interested. I just bought a Corrado VR6 yesterday (whoo hoo!) and the first thing I am doing is sorting out the lights - cr@p is an understatement! I *was* about to buy this (ebay item 130122298206) but did a quick search of the forums to see if anyone can reccomend these. Which is how i came to this post :D Looks like the price you are selling the looms reflects the quality parts being used - I for one dont mind paying that little extra for better quality parts and workmanship! I had just one question for you, are you able to provide any sleeving over the wiring which matches the factory ribbed black sleeve (like in the ebay item i mentioned previously). Also - please put me down for the "all singing all dancing" version. Down to the bottom of the list i go... Any ETA would be great - but i appreciate you have many more orders to fulfil before mine. Cheers H
