Me neither, but the rumour could've been someone referring to the Jetta or Corrado incorrectly? Was a bit disappointed not to have seen the new Rocco though.

boost monkey - British GT - Rockingham - pics
ProdigalSon replied to ProdigalSon's topic in General Car Chat
Hope you like the pics, I've got hi-res too   That's pretty amazing. You pulled a Gallardo back into shape?! :doc: :bonk: :notworthy: Would love to hear the inside scoop on how the day went down, as some of it was a bit surreal watching it from the stands...  :confused4: -
boost monkey - British GT - Rockingham - pics
ProdigalSon replied to ProdigalSon's topic in General Car Chat
Thanks Adz, I used a Nikon D50 camera back, with a 18-70mm zoom lens for the in-garage shots, and a 70-300mm zoom for the track shots - that long lens has the Vibration Reduction gadget built in, which is the mutts nuts  Without it most of those long shots would be just colourful blurs... Still wanting a D300 though... *hides window as wife walks in the room* Was a top day though, just a shame it was such dull weather. -
Thanks to boost monkey, who supplied me with a VIP pass to Rockingham, the wife and I watched the British GT race this afternoon, and hung around for the VW Cup race a bit later. Also managed to get into the paddocks to take a few pics of a racing Corrado  Corrado conversion V2 (3).pdf_DSC8733.jpg[/attachment:4w1rov73] Book1.pdf_DSC8738.jpg[/attachment:4w1rov73] stromlaufplan_gamma4.pdf_DSC8752.jpg[/attachment:4w1rov73] ETKA Corrado.pdf_DSC8763.jpg[/attachment:4w1rov73] stromlaufplan_gamma4.pdf_DSC8767.jpg[/attachment:4w1rov73] Corrado92.pdf_DSC8779.jpg[/attachment:4w1rov73] climatronic wiring-Golf from May 01.pdf_DSC8820.jpg[/attachment:4w1rov73] passat climatronic wiring diags.pdf_DSC8792.jpg[/attachment:4w1rov73] 2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdf_DSC8810.jpg[/attachment:4w1rov73] _DSC8823.jpg[/attachment:4w1rov73] We left immediately after this, and driving my C out of the Rockingham car park, we got lots of "look there's one of those Corrados!" pointing and staring. Sweet. 8)

Some pics of the race itself, taken from about 3 miles away in the stands  Corrado conversion V2 (3).pdf_DSC8630.jpg[/attachment:9nbb1rzb] Book1.pdf_DSC8640.jpg[/attachment:9nbb1rzb] stromlaufplan_gamma4.pdf_DSC8644.jpg[/attachment:9nbb1rzb] 2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdf_DSC8666.jpg[/attachment:9nbb1rzb] ETKA Corrado.pdf_DSC8672.jpg[/attachment:9nbb1rzb] stromlaufplan_gamma4.pdf_DSC8691.jpg[/attachment:9nbb1rzb] Corrado92.pdf_DSC8697.jpg[/attachment:9nbb1rzb] passat climatronic wiring diags.pdf_DSC8709.jpg[/attachment:9nbb1rzb] climatronic wiring-Golf from May 01.pdf_DSC8725.jpg[/attachment:9nbb1rzb] _DSC8727.jpg[/attachment:9nbb1rzb] Not a great finish for TM, but notice of the race curtailment wasn't passed to the teams by the race officials, which makes strategy a bit useless! -
Spent a slightly cold and rainy afternoon today at Rockingham, watching various car races courtesy of a guest pass furnished by our very own boost monkey  He was working for Team Modena this weekend, and I got some pics of the Team Modena paddock and the GT Championship race  Corrado conversion V2 (3).pdf_DSC8602.jpg[/attachment:3h35813r] Book1.pdf_DSC8600.jpg[/attachment:3h35813r] stromlaufplan_gamma4.pdf_DSC8614.jpg[/attachment:3h35813r] ETKA Corrado.pdf_DSC8604.jpg[/attachment:3h35813r] stromlaufplan_gamma4.pdf_DSC8606.jpg[/attachment:3h35813r] Corrado92.pdf_DSC8610.jpg[/attachment:3h35813r] passat climatronic wiring diags.pdf_DSC8612.jpg[/attachment:3h35813r] climatronic wiring-Golf from May 01.pdf_DSC8617.jpg[/attachment:3h35813r] 2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdf_DSC8619.jpg[/attachment:3h35813r] _DSC8609.jpg[/attachment:3h35813r]

Dude, that sucks. If your master cyl has gone then either it won't be exerting pressure at all (doesn't sound like your problem), or it will let air into the circuit with each gearchange so that the pedal goes veeeeery limp :camp: I ended up replacing the slave, hydraulic hose and master cylinder (in that order) before I got good pedal back, and then discovered that my clutch friction plate had disintegrated as well :bad-words: Hope you don't have such an ordeal! Looking on the bright side though, you won't have to worry about the hydraulics again...  Drop me a PM if you need advice in fitting any of those bits, as the process is still fresh in my head! Or read my Member's Gallery thread. Edit: A good indicator of a busted master is when you bleed the system at the slave cylinder - if you can't get rid of all the fine frothy bubbles, regardless of how many dozen times you pump the pedal/how much fluid you run through it, then the master is probably letting the air in. Good luck :thumb right:

Fitted intercooler and brake vents to my wheel arch liners today: 2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdf_DSC8590.jpg[/attachment:3tz5tjuw] And did more runs with my thermometer plumbed in (don't laugh, it's only temporary!): _DSC8579.jpg[/attachment:3tz5tjuw] New temps were Ambient 13C, Battery 18-25C, Throttle 18-45C rising to 52C at idle... Roughly same 20 minute run. More pics on my thread  Also added 'water wetter' stuff to coolant today, and it barely hit 70C during the speed runs, but climbed to >100C at idle.

Spent a good 6 hours on the C today, and did the following: Replaced both drop link nuts and the O/S wishbone rear bolt, none of which had been done although they were available when the wishbones were replaced   Eyeballed a camber correction to the N/S front hub, as it had been put out by a change to the ball joint shim when we had the gearbox out for clutch swappage. Subsequent test drive this evening has proved that the steering is now centralised again, and the does not pull awkwardly to either side :D Who needs 4-wheel laser alignment? Then set about swapping the crank bolt for the DX bolt I've had for the last 8 months   : Corrado conversion V2 (3).pdf_DSC8577.jpg[/attachment:1cn2w57n] Book1.pdf_DSC8578.jpg[/attachment:1cn2w57n] stromlaufplan_gamma4.pdf_DSC8575.jpg[/attachment:1cn2w57n] ETKA Corrado.pdf_DSC8576.jpg[/attachment:1cn2w57n] stromlaufplan_gamma4.pdf_DSC8587.jpg[/attachment:1cn2w57n] In the meantime, the missus had been busy stripping the wheel arch liners out, and cutting suitable holes for cold-air feeds to the brakes (not standard on ABS-fitted cars), and to improve the intercooler's air flow  : Corrado92.pdf_DSC8584.jpg[/attachment:1cn2w57n] We took some aluminium grille, spray painted it matt black, and cut out three panels and riveted them into the wheel arch liners: passat climatronic wiring diags.pdf_DSC8589.jpg[/attachment:1cn2w57n] climatronic wiring-Golf from May 01.pdf_DSC8590.jpg[/attachment:1cn2w57n] Figured that the grille would stop grit being thrown into the ABS rotors (the reason why vents were blanked on ABS-fitted cars), would stop a lot of mud/water from being thrown from the tyres into the wing, and would still allow some good airflow to the brakes (and intercooler)... Nice and subtle too, as they turned out, pleased with that :D Props to the wife for doing all the hard work in removing, cutting, riveting and refitting the wheel arch liners - she's a keeper!  Finally did some more runs to check inlet manifold temps, with the thermometer that I rigged last night: 2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdf_DSC8579.jpg[/attachment:1cn2w57n] _DSC8581.jpg[/attachment:1cn2w57n] Temps read 13C ambient, 18-25C at battery and 18-45C at throttle body during 'spirited runs', and up to 52C when idling (water and oil were over 100C at this point). Will see what happens when the phenolic inlet manifold gasket is fitted - watch this space

More maintenance and minor upgrades: 1) Fitted DX crank bolt and washer, after having it in my boot for about 8 months  2) Replaced both drop link nuts with new ones that weren't fitted when the wishbones were done  3) Replaced the O/S wishbone rear bolt that wasn't replaced etc. etc. 4) Realigned the N/S wheel hub after having replaced the ball joint shim previously, which left the steering off-centre :camp: 5) Found the loose piece of exhaust heat shield that was making an annoying rattle, and steel-tie-wrapped it back in place :bounce2: 6) Stripped the wheel arch liners, cut out brake and intercooler vents and fitted them with aluminium mesh, sprayed matt black :D And due props to the wife, who did most of #6 on her lonesome  :salute: :luvlove: Pics to be found in my thread... :shades: -
Sheesh, it's the boost monkey that does all the calculations in my family :geek:  As he's racing Lambos this weekend ( ) you're on your own, sorry  (Er, I'm still running Bosch green tops too  so not an expert at injectors/FPRs/flow rates...)

Too lazy to find one but posting on the forum at 8:17am on a Saturday? :cuckoo:

You're bang on the money Cheapmods, it is an insulating spacer for the inlet manifold to hold it off the head. :salute: Evoheatshield A2101.JPG[/attachment:22u38g6k] I got mine here: http://www.evolutiontuning.com/evoheatshields18SOHC8V.htm about $90 plus shipping I think. Think I will have to trim my exhaust manifold back a bit due to the interference fit with the inlet, otherwise the 'pushed out' inlet will clash with the exhaust. They make a thinner phenolic to deal with this, but I bought the thicker one and will mess with the exhaust to get it to fit! PS. if you get one of these, the OEM gaskets they provide don't fit the G60 inlet as they have the 'loop' for N/A engines, as seen in the pic above, so order two of the proper G60 gaskets from your dealer/supplier.

Doubt a plastic filter would cause problems... pretty sure that's what I have, if I recall correctly.

It's been a while, but I have just plumbed that thermometer into the side of the throttle body, and gone for a quick spin to check inlet temps. :norty: Ambient was 14C according to the MFA, Min and Max for Throttle Body were 19C and 55C at start and end of a 20 minute run Min and Max for Under Bonnet were 17C and 28C (second reading taken from on top of battery)... After 5 minutes of full boost fun when the oil temp was up (so about 10 minutes from start), the Throttle Body temp was about 47C, and I had to drive slowly/let the car idle to get the oil and water up to over 100C before the 50C+ temps occurred. Will do some more runs like this and keep notes so that I can see how much the phenolic gasket drops the inlet manifold/throttle body/recirculated boost temperatures... 8)

Washed, waxed and took pics for my Member's Gallery thread last night, and today I fitted two 15A fuses at the battery end of my home-made headlight loom upgrade  _DSC8591.jpg[/attachment:3nlk35p0] Also taped up the lovely red and green headlight wiring so it's not so obvious and less likely to chafe :norty: , and greased up my bonnet release mech :D Edit: and my wife cleaned up the grease and dirt on the slam panel :luvlove: -
The definitive "What Air Filter?" discussion thread
ProdigalSon replied to CazzaVR's topic in Engine Bay
Why not place the cone filter inside the driver's side wing, and run hose through the hole for the carbon canister - that way you get nice cool air from just above the road, you keep the roar, and you get a lovely amplified resonance inside the wing  :norty:   Not everyone's cup of tea (and I am thinking of backing down the throb of mine a bit  ), but good for a laugh... -
Parts dispatched today, see PMs for details  Let me know how you get on with fitting them :)

No probs, and we all wish that on a fairly regular basis!

Just had a minor brainwave - the capacity of my stand-alone sump is about 500ml, and the rest of the pipework a little less, so instead of having a sump and a cooler, you could just fit the cooler, as it will have an internal capacity of about 1/2 litre, no? If that seems a bit risky (don't know why though  ) you could just pop some vanes/heatsink onto the sump itself (especially if it is more rectangular than mine), and mount it somewhere it will get some coolish airflow... Would be cheaper than a cooler, and you may only want 10-15C of cooling anyway, to keep the oil at a decent operating temperature and reduce internal frictional resistance in the charger?

 You are really going to town on this sucker! :D It's going to be awesome 8) Any idea of costs so far? Or do you not want to think about that! :pale: :ignore: Would be interested in knowing how much the rebuild parts (head work, bearings, piston rings, etc.) cost, as opposed to the 'tuning parts' (chip and pulley, camshaft, etc.), given my summer plans...
-
Thanks Andy  Not too fussed about detailing the headlights, but red/clear rears are well on the cards, just can't choose! Still looking forward to seeing your 'lude too :D Cheers Stu, MrsB lives on - in shiny angelic silver...
