DirtyTorque's G60*Now with 8 more valves*
ProdigalSon replied to dirtytorque's topic in Members Gallery
Cool  I've heard that injectors get very inaccurate when running at more than 80% duty cycle, so swapout for the reds is a very good call! What profile is the Schrick? Seems to be some variance in how they are measured and reported, like degrees between 0.002" lift for the marketing spiel(!) and degrees between 0.05" lift for accurate tuning, or somesuch... Wise choice with the crank bolt too, another worry to cross off the list! Good to see plenty pics as well :thumbleft: PS. you need to sort out the white balance on your camera cos I was shivering when looking at some of those cold blue pics! -
davidwort is correct :salute: the 3 pin connector with the missing female is definitely the throttle position switches (idle and wide open throttle microswitches), without these the idle will be ropey as :ignore:  The connector you're looking for will have blue/black, blue/red , and white/brown wires, and should be dangling down from the loom that comes through the scuttle panel by the two heater matrix coolant hoses. The oil temp sender is located on front of the engine, in the middle of the oil sandwich plate (that the oil filter screws into from below) - the single wire should be green/black. The other single wire connector there is for the oil pressure switch (just slightly above and behind the temp sender), and is yellow. Don't worry about a third loose one-wire connector there, it's not used unless you have aircon or somesuch - can be ignored  Hope that helps, seems like the garage are taking the mickey and/or don't have a clue  :bad-words:

I had Hicon GTs freshly installed by Darren today :salute: The ride back from G-werks this afternoon was great, good roads and decent flow of traffic. I really noticed the lack of nose lift when putting on the beans (and nose dive when braking hard a couple of times), plus it is much more level around corners  Known 'crashy' roads are predictably bad, but then they always were with my OEM suspension, so no great disadvantage with the Weitecs it would seem... I know I have minimal experience of these (only 150 miles!), but sometimes first impressions are the clearest

Looking good  I'll be keeping a close eye on this one, for your FMIC and MS pics/install notes/tips :salute: -
Waxoyl secured :salute: (cheers bro  ) They seem to have dropped even further now... can barely get 2 fingers in between tyre and arch... Will have to remember to lube/seal them before long (ie. tomorrow night!), although not sure my trolley jack will go under the sill now
-
Er, yeah, about that... any chance of having some of your waxoyl please? Swapsies original G60 (limited edition) suspension for some sealant?

Cheers Slim :) So that's 2 votes for 'lower', and 0 votes for 'higher' then?

Aww, thanks  Do you remember how low yours was? Either the distance from wheel arch to ground or space between tyre and arch? Got my eye on some 16" LMs... Would that satisfy your vicarious urges? :norty:

Went to G-Werks, got a set of Weitec Hicon GTs fitted with VR6 topmounts by Darren, and I pranced around doing little jobs while the car was up in the air (and hence the underside was easy to get to!) 1) Checked out some brake disk scoring that Darren noticed, removed some grit and cleaned/re-copper-greased the caliper and pad backs 2) Replaced some rusty fittings between the front splitter and the 'lower front wheel arch liner bits' 3) Removed a rattly piece of exhaust heatshield that was protecting the PAS lines, and wrapped the downpipe there as alternative insulation 4) Gave Darren a hand with removing the trim for the rear top mounts. (Forgot to push the piston back out on the caliper I'd cleaned, so when I took the car for a drive on the new suspension, the first press of the brake pedal hit the floor  "oh cr@p!" but the second press did the trick... not clever when you are rolling downhill towards traffic at a T-junction)  :bonk: But the end result was this: _DSC9025.jpg[/attachment:1a5kgkr1] Loving the drive, loving the look :luvlove:  -
Went down to G-werks today for a set of Weitec Hicon GT coilovers  Pics: Corrado conversion V2 (3).pdf_DSC8993.jpg[/attachment:1zrgzu8b] Book1.pdf_DSC8996.jpg[/attachment:1zrgzu8b] stromlaufplan_gamma4.pdf_DSC8998.jpg[/attachment:1zrgzu8b] ETKA Corrado.pdf_DSC9004.jpg[/attachment:1zrgzu8b] stromlaufplan_gamma4.pdf_DSC9007.jpg[/attachment:1zrgzu8b] Corrado92.pdf_DSC9009.jpg[/attachment:1zrgzu8b] passat climatronic wiring diags.pdf_DSC9015.jpg[/attachment:1zrgzu8b] climatronic wiring-Golf from May 01.pdf_DSC9018.jpg[/attachment:1zrgzu8b] 2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdf_DSC9020.jpg[/attachment:1zrgzu8b] _DSC9021.jpg[/attachment:1zrgzu8b] Cheers to Darren and Rob for being helpful and laid back (as usual) :thumbleft: I may drop the car a wee bit lower, but I'm already loving the lack of body roll and nose lift/dive :D , and I've not noticed any bump-steer with my (conservative) 35mm-ish drop. Ride is obviously harsher over very poor tarmac (ie. potholes etc.), but liveable-with :)

Boost came over at 6pm and we did messed about with his spare KR: _DSC8916.jpg[/attachment:2wwu4k75] 2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdf_DSC8978.jpg[/attachment:2wwu4k75] Yes, that's right, total engine stripdown in a leisurely 4 hours :cuckoo:  -
Hmm, not sure about that, I reckon you're deluded   Thanks for nice words about the new look tho'
-
To make a massive generalisation, I think that the lighter smokes work better on light coloured cars and the darker smokes or red/reds look great on dark coloured cars... All down to personal preference though :) Have you tried any photoshoppery to get an idea of what they'd look like?

Yesterday prepped new smoked/red FK tails by getting rid of the chrome :gag: and painting them satin black 8) Today, finished detailing and then fitted them: _DSC8912.jpg[/attachment:7dd1psx3] -
Cheers Rob

So here they are, fitted to the car: climatronic wiring-Golf from May 01.pdf_DSC8911.jpg[/attachment:y06quk2l] 2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdf_DSC8912.jpg[/attachment:y06quk2l] _DSC8913.jpg[/attachment:y06quk2l] Just a coupla pics as have spent too much time on this in the last two days and am a bit bored with it, but pleased it's done  Think the smoking goes well with the silver paint... 8)

Is that metal polish?

Having boosted my energy this morning with brunch, my wife and I started work on toning down the FK tails I bought: stromlaufplan_gamma4.pdf_DSC8885.jpg[/attachment:9baliml8] Corrado92.pdf_DSC8891.jpg[/attachment:9baliml8] passat climatronic wiring diags.pdf_DSC8892.jpg[/attachment:9baliml8] climatronic wiring-Golf from May 01.pdf_DSC8906.jpg[/attachment:9baliml8] 2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdf_DSC8908.jpg[/attachment:9baliml8] _DSC8910.jpg[/attachment:9baliml8] Finally, I tried to darken the dremel'd areas with some matt black enamel, but it got into the hairline crack between body and lens, and even a piece of paper couldn't fit between to wipe it out  May have to go the whole hog and deliberately darken the 3mm wide area between the outside edge of the lights and rubber seal... Will see what's possible, and will fit them to the car tomorrow
-
Agreed, although Jay's engine was not particularly modern/efficient to start with! And the main problem with having all that power is being restrained enough not to use it in order to save go-juice. I'll try to respray the tails tomorrow, and have a few 'progress pics'...
-
Can't have the missus car being faster than mine though!  And she only does 22mpg at the mo, so no need for more consumption there thank you very much
