Legend, thanks very much mate :D :salute: :notworthy:
-
ok cool, hope you get it sorted! if all else fails, take your entire toolkit. It is a corrado after all

No you're right, I haven't mentioned the hard lines, what to do, what to do! I have a set of complete hard lines from the breaker car, although that had ABS so I can't use any from inside the engine bay; at least Prodigal can have them for spares. I'm about £100 down on budget now due to the unforeseen water pump issue, so things will have to take a back seat for a while I think; I will probably build the new rear beam up at my new house and put it on there. I might see if the workshop at uni is available to studes. They mainly have CNC machines but some of the old boys are quite helpful and smell like oil, quality  I may yet take you up on that offer Pete! As mentioned the car will fail MOT in its current state, I've been sorting out my pushbike today and went and bought a helmet so I can start using that for Uni (6 miles each way and hilly! :pale:) and save some cash over the lean winter months. I'm happy for Stella to sit up on stands for a while yet so I can do the rear axle, although I am a little worried about the engine as the overheat seems something of an enigma at the moment  Stupidly enough, I get a loan payment in Feb AND March each year, so I will have plenty of cashola in about 4 months.... those LEAs are loco :cuckoo:

so they're both 24mm on yours?
-
If the straight ones have a very thin threaded part then they are pattern ones and not so great. AFAIK, the VAG ones should be offset slightly and a bit chunkier if that helps? Jon.
-
Well when I checked 5 mins before posting (actually going out to the car ) the white one fit a 24mm and the black one looked bigger, but couldn't get a socket on it cos the heat exchanger is in the way. and i don't have any spanners. Apart from me :bonk:

Hi mate, your car won't have a cat on it, it's too old. Mine doesn't either. There's a whole Definitive exhaust thread in the Engine Bay section, well worth a read. IB4TL.

If it's not too much hassle :D
-
 no more gravel rallies then.
-
white one is a 24mm, black one at the back looks larger, maybe 26?

Bolts for steel wheels are 3A0601139. Jon.

Hi pete! welcome back  I'm afraid to say that a VR cross-member is substantially different to our 4-pot ones as your front engine mount is a completely different design. I have MOT on 10th October (~ 2 weeks away)... whether I can get my rear beam done in that time I don't know  If not, Plum will fail on the following: Rear seized caliper, corroded handbrake cable, Rear axle bushings worn, [possible] rear suspension worn, braking imbalance [due to caliper], ...off the top of my head, so plenty to get a RED VOSA sheet for  I've got new cables, and shocks and another caliper which I stripped down today. Needs a lick of paint and to get the new piston seals on then it should be good to go on. So yes, I'm hoping it will be a runner through the winter. The ISV thermoswitch has snapped off in the head though which makes cold starts a pain. I'm reluctant to drill it out as it will put swarf into the cooling jacket and may damage something. If I pull the head off to change the head gasket, I will drill it out then :salute:

That indeed looks like your rear engine mount has cracked and is letting all the hydraulic oil out of it! Never seen one leak so precise as that before! Mount costs vary depending on factor or genuine, and labour varies depending on whether you DIY or take it to a garage. Shouldn't be more than £100 all in for a garage to do based on a cheaper mount but i'll let someone confirm.

When you loosened the PAS pump bolt to slacken off the PAS belt, did you tighten it up again? Sounds like perhaps the belt is just sitting loose on the pulleys. When it's tightened try to TWIST the belt. you should only be able to rotate it through 1/4 turn (90 degrees). The water pump has another pump on it which is driven by the crankshaft, and also runs the alternator too. Check to see if either of the 2 water pump pulleys are turning as they are both bolted to the water pump shaft which turns the blades inside the pump.

The "what I did to my Corrado today" thread...
boost monkey replied to Jim's topic in General Car Chat
lined up the late spec PAS hoses and tank, getting there slowly... -
Bought a late spec rad support panel today so that I can utilise the PAS oil cooler bar on my new pipes, and cos my early spec one is ratty. RSP was £60 delivered but is in good nick and seemingly comes with another cross-member which I will be able to sell on :salute:
-
Can I see your calipers too? :luvlove: that's right beatch, i'm going off-topicz!!11!1one.
-
Fair enough mate, I've never seen foliatec'd calipers but I guess it can be done right.
-
Spray hammerite for calipers, We did prodigal's a year ago and they're still fresh, and i'm planning to do the 280s I got from your good self in satin black sometime soon also :salute:
-
 looking good fella! Just realised you have an early badgeless grille, where did you get it? I can't find them anywhere and almost swapped to a late spec front panel just so I could use a late style badgeless grille! Cheers.
-
I'm just sorting out my PAS now. I've got all the PAS hoses from the breaker (and the rebuilt rack) and AFAICT the PAS pump should still work with late hoses... I might bung my early hoses up on a forum somewhere, they'll be Mk2 Golf/Early C spec and worth £200 new  although I won't ask that much.

Do you think I am weird enough? VR6, i'm trying to find the chunk of loom that i'm missing that runs from fusebox to E/W and C/L module as shown in the pics. Prodigal worked out that the nasty taped up relays under my steering wheel are currently what is controlling windows and locks. No wonder I got locked in that time...
