  1. IIRC, the cams don't have bearings? I think that's right...
  2. mmm true. I'd take a 205 over a Mk2 golf any day (handling wise) and i've had 2 of each!
  3. Ditto Rob! :luvlove: how can you guys say it looks fat? the Mk4 was a boat in comparison to this! it has a lot more angular er... angles like the Corrado. Mmm pointy
  4. ^^^ has been mentioned a bit Jim! albeit not in this thread...
  5. awww, group hug! :D I know i've given bad advice before, nothing wrong with questioning each other :salute:
  6. Wow, some quite unexplained Tiff hate going on in here! Either of you care to elaborate, Alexander / VW domo?
  7. I'm so social and loved by everyone  :cuckoo:
  8. Should be. Mine attaches to the ignition coil 10mm bolt nearest the front of the car on the edge of the rain tray/scuttle seperator. always worth greasing them up if you have a spare 5 mins. Earths not coils.
  9. pinking could well sound like that, i've heard it described as a bag of marbles being shaken.
  10. Jim the detective :salute: I won't bother mentioning the digifant fuel lines and fuel rail connectors then. Trace the fuel lines back, chances are one of them is weeping a little and as petrol is a solvent, the fuel line should be real shiny where the petrol has washed the dirt off.
  11. Ah right cool, that's ok then :D Cheers :salute:
  12. I wouldn't really recommend taking advice from people who haven't worked on this specific system before, it's a lot different to the clutch systems on non-hydro cars (no offence horney :salute). Can you get the car into gear at all or does it just grind and crunch when you try to engage it? sounds a lot like clutch plate to me, ProdigalSon had this problem earlier this year. He spent £££ changing all the hydraulic parts and it turned out to the the clutch plate all along. Try this if you can: Turn the car off, select a gear, lift the clutch pedal back off the floor (hook your foot under if need be) then start the car. If you can drive it and get motion then the clutch plate is fine and the problem is hydraulic. If you don't get any drive but a nasty graunchy crunch noise then the clutch plate is gone. Where are you based Chrissie? Perhaps a kind local soul would be able to have a look, or can you take it to a garage to diagnose? (by take it i mean can they come and collect it?)
  13. When aluminium surfaces get hot like your manifold, i think they oxidise. imho, you're fighting a losing battle just to have a little bling when you pop the bonnet. 2p.
  14. Forgot to mention, this is normal. p.s. it's normal.
  15. You're forgetting the big fat rubber top mount below that plate which will stop any damage from potholes occurring. You should be happy with it, it's normal. Don't bother getting anyone to lathe anything, it will just mess it all up. As mentioned before, this is perfectly normal. Jack your car up, let the wheel droop and you'll see the gap disappears.
  16. there should be some on here somewhere, try the search. if you have any more information about how and when the noise happens, engine temp, under load or idling etc etc etc.
  17. No chance of a ride in this over Oxford way then...
  18. and it's definitely an engine noise and can't be anything else? if so, it could well be one of the many bearings on the crank shaft including the thrusts or maybe even the end floats?
  19. UJs can develop a lot of play so that's a good thing to look into. Shame VW want £120 for a new one :cuckoo:
  20. What is the point of doing it on the wing side? it's not a mk2 golf which has a cold air feed to outside there. Best place to drill / modify would be just underneath after removing the carbon canister I reckon.
  21. The old ones would have been 256s, not really rubbish to be honest, the "corrado ones" would have been 280s.
  22. yeah, just put a K&N panel filter in the standard box, it'll be fine.
  23. Ordered the wrong water pump pulley! What a legend I am  Now have a new/spare smaller pulley that runs the PAS pump and have ordered the following: 028121031K which is: pulley / F 50-N-005 646>> / PG,2E,ADY aka the latest large water pump pulley. VAGCAT says it's 12 Euros so it DEFFO won't be a clutched one, but that is cool (clutched/idler ones are 50+ euros) so I should be able to have the water pump done by the weekend all being well!
