Golf 5 GTI TFSI engine into a rado, need a little tech help
boost monkey replied to JIMMI's topic in Engine Bay
This won't be trend setting if you pull it off mate, it was done a couple of years ago I'm sorry to say. Good luck with the conversion though. Edit: just seen how old this topic is  -
cool :D so many people call them the wrong thing!
-
no probs  you know the CM is just the bit with the engine mount on right?

VR6 rebuild - Downpipe and exhaust tacked up

POR-15 and other spray pics look awesome! Sorry to hear you had problems with the bodyshop, that is my worst nightmare. I could never do bodywork myself. -
Remember one of my rear calipers is seized? Thought i'd kill some time, so i refurb'd the spare I had. I still think the OEM calipers work well, only ever had one seize on all 4 of the Mk2-esque VWs I've owned. Anyways, pics... Here it is after I satin blacked it a couple of nights ago. The VW seals have been sat in the ectoplasm for about an hour (comes with), so it's time to sling them together. That's the easier of the 2 done... Voila. I find it easiest to slip the main seal over the bottom of the piston like a skirt, then ease the seal down into the gap. When it's all in, you can wind the piston back in and the piston edges should push the seal outwards into the caliper seal groove. Added bleed nipple, nipple dust cap and also the new rear febi brake hose. :salute: all done.

SO... my water pump pulley came yesterday which was awesome: and the pump now looks like this: Unfortunately my old thermostat flange has warped so I've got one on order which will be in tomorrow. And today the new front panel(s) came. If someone can tell me what car they're from that would really help  ;): Budget is running out very quickly, so I think the rad support will get Hammerited as opposed to the POR treatment. Good enough. Cross-member is best one I've seen, MUCH less corrosion than the 2 I have already painted so I'm gonna clean this up and stick it up for sale at a discounted rate :salute: Came from a 1994 16v.

If there's no advance on 202k, I guess you are the winner Kempy! You know where the corner shop is...
-
Sorry, I originally meant whole car, i.e. mileage on the speedo unless the clocks have been changed. My current engine only done 120k ish.
-
Winner gets a twix :luvlove: The Plum: 185k with a few months of a dead cable, so I'm gonna say 187k just to be safe

Coxys R32 4 Motion Corrado - On the Road!!!!

Glad to hear this hasn't died a death. -
imho, quality = time and money. Simple as that. Everything can be traced back to those as the roots of a car project I reckon. I have some time and no money, hence why mine doesn't have a diamond plate windscreen and gold-plated floorpan  Oh wait, mine doesn't have those cos it'd be ass... :gag: As mentioned, I appreciate the effort, creativity and individuality in all the projects. I personally think showcars are futile; if you spend £1000s on something just so other people like you then you have bigger sociological fish to fry  but end of the day it's your car. As Kev said, just because you don't read about it doesn't mean someone isn't making something better in a garage somewhere, and it would be naive/shortsighted to assume that people don't have the skills...Look at MikkiJayne's Audi V8 powered Corrado for example. It's like celebrity status for car and owner which makes no sense to me :|

Yes, I know the ones you mean. I just cut up a shell recently and saved a lot of the fittings. If you can get me a photo of which bit you need, I will be able to ID it easier (IIRC, there are 2 or 3 different groove button things in the interior ranging from large for the carpet to smaller for the trim etc.) I think so, you mean the little clear rubbery jelly bit which sits on top of the little spring-loaded pin for the front to back slider mech?

Battery light stays dim. Any Clue to what it might be?
boost monkey replied to corrado g's topic in Engine Bay
should be nearer 14v when the engine is running AFAIK. Have you checked your earth leads? sounds like you might have disrupted the one by the battery when you swapped it over. Also, do you know how to remove and inspect the voltage regulator on the alternator? My guess would be it's more likely the earth strap though. -
Tints look awesome Chris! Good work :salute:

Appreciating function over form (or "cars that look like milkfloats* and go like rockets") is no bad thing Kev. I have a limited budget, and I will always always always put money into parts you can't see as opposed to parts you can unless bigger wheels are functional or the bling dissipates heat better   :salute: *Not that the C is a milkfloat ;) Anyways, off-topic :|

that's what i meant by waffle rack, being all criss-cross and bobbly  :D
-
VR racks are "waffle" racks, they have a funny pattern on them which is all criss-cross and nobbly (i'm so technical) TRW racks should have a little stamp on the underside which say XTR USA or something like that on. But then I only have 4 of them
-
I feel the same Kev. I appreciate the work that's gone in etc etc etc, but the cult status is just weird. Are there shrines to Jay in dirty VW garages around the country?
-
good news, cheers :salute:
-
That's because it is the same rack :) In fact, apart from the gearbox and top mounts there's not much difference in running gear at all from the 16v golf and 4cyl Corrados and the G60 golf shared those too! I was gonna say this a while back david, but I went on VAGCAT and all the racks for Corrado and Golf seem to have different part numbers and details to one another, so
-
sounds like you've fooked the ignition system  may i recommend a pushbike as your vehicle of choice from now on?
-
stupid question first, have you checked the oil level? does the buzzer sound or is it just the light coming on? perhaps your oil pump has gone funny.
-
your head will have hydraulic lifters in, which sound tappy if the oil has drained from them. When does it make the noise? if it's just a few seconds on startup then I wouldn't worry about it.
