Thanks dude

Pistons labelled from crank pulley end  so...uh...yeah. Says it all really doesn't it! :drinking: First piston went up slow 6 - 8 - 10psi and then edged up from there, then towards the flywheel end the compression tests got progressively better. Cylinder 4 was actually bordering on 17psi on the leakdown  So, looks like the rings are all going along with the HG as the leakdown showed a consistent 2bar increase in all 4 cylinder pressures with a small amount of oil down the bores. Thoughts?

I did always hear a rattle above 4000rpm, but always put it down to the pas pump! I will update soon colin :D

Placed the solid pulley and coolant flush on order, which means I won't have the pump done today  Decided I could put my new subframe on today, but then I would obviously have to get the rack aligned so it probably won't be very driveable until I get that done, certainly not driving aligned enough to test the water pump! Catch 22. I guess I could get it all bolted up and connected, do the pump tomorrow and then go from there :salute: I'll fetch the camera.. p.s. if you're wondering why i'm trying to do too much at once, it's because uni starts again on Monday and I will literally have a maximum of _maybe_ 2 hours a week to work on the car. That's how crazy next semester is :confused4:

carrier to hubs first my good man, then just slot the guide pins home, easy peasy :salute: although the bolts are normally harbingers of doom and take AGES to get in and need torqueing up to something arm shattering like 98lbft?! nice parts, buy me some if you get bored

Identifying chassis number correctly?
boost monkey replied to boost monkey's topic in General Car Chat
Ah right! Yeah there's a VIN identifier online somewhere. I just need to know which letter VAGCAT refers to on the chassis-specific parts :salute: -
Trade is 15% which seems pretty decent? I haven't bought the parts yet as I'm waiting for the bolts to be in to pick them all up at the same time, the total was £50 ish with 2 bottles of coolant and some random bolts which could cost a fair pop each, so maybe the pump is only about £20ish quid  Won't know until tomorrow. Cheers for the part number :salute:

Erwins can save your life with snapped bolts ;)

What is VW Trade: TPS? They still haven't responded to my application for an account  Do you have a part number for the coolant flush from VW? I think there is only 1 metal coolant pipe, it's the one that winds around the front of the block? I have a good one of those spare so I may swap it out if the old one is dead. And yeah, I think it's time I reactivate my breakdown cover  Cheers Steve  :salute:

Ah yes sorry! I have never tried to remove my own hub flange which is the name of the T-shaped section the disc bolts to, the part behind is the hub housing I think? I would recommend taking it to a garage also, but if you are going to DIY the puller should work fine.

bottom ball joint? if you're run through the list above it should come off now

Expansion tank hose pipe - where can I buy it?
boost monkey replied to belfastfumanchu's topic in Suppliers Forum
sure. i tested it and it's not leaking. PM me your address and I'll get it sent :salute: -
Pistons back in: take the lid off the reservoir (not fully off, the fluid will absorb moisture from the air) so the fluid can be forced back up, brace a decent size (17-19) spanner over the piston and push. Hard. Put the lid of the reservoir back on, it may have overflowed a little depending on how far you pushed the piston back in. No. Yes, pretty much. The rear pistons will fit inside the fronts, therefore the rear tool will fit inside the fronts and not do a great deal apart from get stuck. For a lubricant Try KY Jelly, you're much less likely to need plastic surgery afterwards  You shouldn't need to lube up the pistons to push them back in unless the calipers are really caked up :salute:

Expansion tank hose pipe - where can I buy it?
boost monkey replied to belfastfumanchu's topic in Suppliers Forum
yeah pretty much mate, it's just the radiator overflow which feeds back into the top of the expansion :salute: -

Just dug mine out and it's stripey too! If you want an OEM one, let me know. could send it to you for a couple of quid. -
Expansion tank hose pipe - where can I buy it?

it's just a length of hose, plain and simple. Go down to B&Q or somewhere like that and get a piece cut to size. Failing that, I have one I can wind up for you and stick in a jiffy bag. p.s. £70?!?!?!? :cuckoo:   -
Not sure yet, still haven't grown arms long enough to reach the ignition barrel and the compression tester at the same time! Hopefully, I'll be able to do that tonight or perhaps in the morning depending on when Prod comes in.

Kempy, you have PM.

If you have a 2.0 16v, I have a pump you can have on the cheap too. Whole pump assembly with fuel lines in fact! :salute:
-
Cheers pete :salute: I think I'm gonna pull most /all coolant hoses tomorrow and just check that they don't have blockages in. I've put up a few wanteds for a solid golf pulley, but tbh I might just order one into VW and pick it up.
-
definitely available, I just ordered my whole rear beam items, and VW phoned to say that not only are they all still available but they're all still in the UK. Woot! I used part number: 811611797 2-point retainer, and they're still available. Maybe you could use the other side of the clip to run a hard nitrous line to the engine bay... :norty: p.s. do you have mk4 calipers? they look finned.
-
ok, i've found out from Toad that I should just replace it with a Mk2 Golf solid pulley and go from there. But as the outer pulley was still attached, surely the pump was still working? Any help appreciated!

Sounds like a ballache! clever stuff though ;)

Is part no. same / compatible for all spoiler controllers ?
boost monkey replied to BigTartanJudge's topic in Interior
I guess that if you fitted one that worked in KPH, it would go up at 30mph as it would read the "50" value and 50mph = ~30kmh and it would come down at 10mph as it would read the "15" value and 15mph = ~10kmh.... hope that makes sense! If the part you're after is the "Heckspoilersteuerung", I have one from a K reg 16v that is just gathering dust... Part number is 535 919 845A  It has a 10-pin (2 x 5) connector on the back with 2 lugs on one side. Jon.
