  1. Yeah me and Kev discovered that the gear linkages gets burnt by the downpipes as standard on the VR! It hadn't burnt through enough to effect my linkages though, still surprisingly smooth considering they've done 160k! i thought mine were good considering the mileage mind - did you see the state of the bush on the selector end of my gear shift cable! (a pretty poor design really for VW) not good matey. it's worth keeping an eye on fleabay for the cables as well - i was lucky and got hold of one for about £35 - VW want an extortionate amount for them though (i know as i paid full whack for the other one :? )
  2. speak to Kip_VR about the heatwrap - he can put you onto some really good stuff. also - i put an extra layer or two of heat-shield material type stuff between the existing heatshield on the car and where the gear-selector box goes. that will help to prtotect the gear-selector and the cables as the twin-cats will put a fair bit of heat down there. you can get hold of it pretty cheap off fleabay. it should be alright when you're moving as the air will carry it all away, but when you're stationary on a hot day, i can see it getting pretty toasty under there!
  3. have you got those two AFR numbers the wrong way round there pal??? - i was under the impression that the perfect 14.7 ratio was leaner than 13.2... one thing i didn't mention before by the way Rob (possibly a bit late now!); i would wrap the manifold while you can mate. it's not a difficult job, just time consuming and annoying (prepare to itch from the fibreglass for a day or two afterwards!). it will bring your engine bay temps down a fair whack and personally i don't like having all that heat right under the plastic intake manifold. even if it does have the heatshield between it and the intake, it's still not very nice - both for the flimsy plastic and for your intake temps
  4. if that's the case matey, then you might be alright - the 24v runs cooler and more efficiently than the 12v anyway; just keep an eye on it as you say... i found that it was only on long hard runs that the temp crept up. i was doing a long journey at night - think 2:00 in the morning (on a very long private road naturally!) and sat at circa 140mph for about 30 mins in my 12v - saw the temp hit 136 deg! usual hard driving only saw the 12v go up to about 120ish though. suck it and see pal :) that's a good way to do it with the wiring - do you mind if i ask how much Vince is charging (PM me if you like). think i would prefer to have taken the whole car to get the wiring done personally, but the way you're doing it is much more convenient for you i guess
  5. hi Neil, really sorry to hear what's happened - absolutely gutted for you mate. i know how it feels when you've put some much time and effort into a car and then watch it all go Pete-Tong. (can't believe that about the lorry driver - what a total w*nker!!!) please don't take this the wrong way pal - but if you're after a mint shell to do a swap on, then i have one going.... regardless of what happens, it's great to hear you're not hurt and i hope you get something sorted that you're happy with asap. all the best mate, Pete
  6. Hmm I was told I could just put the VR cooler on, I have put it on and it fits perfectly. Do you know why it can't go on? Problem is, I don't know how to weld and don't know anyone who can really so modding the front mount wasn't an option for me. Ahh sorry mate i hadn't read the thread properly. All I meant was you shouldn't just use the VR one on it's own for cooling as it's probably not up to the job (hence the massive one on the R32) but you're already one step ahead of me there with the mocal... Cool to see another one one the way and you've made very fast progress! think the pic with the mocal is Karl's old install there pal - but mocal is the way forward anyway! and yes - it's easy when you know how isn't it?!!! sorry, not putting you down at all there buddy - some top work you've done there. you'll have it all sorted pronto - just got to get it off to see Mark at Souh West In-Car Tech now and you'll have a large smile on your face  in Mark's own words; he said i was giggling like a little school boy the first time i took mine out after it had been remapped and it was out of limp mode :norty:  i won't ever forget that moment - makes me miss the car now
  7. you sure about that - i read somewhere on here that they use a line that flows better as the OEM item isn't all the great and gets clogged over time... i could be wrong, but that's defo what i read on here somewhere a while back. guess you'd have to speak to g-werks...
  8. tbh once you've done it once or twice it's only a 15-20 mins job to take the bumper/slam panel off - get stuck into it - you'll be glad you id if you're changing the rad. wouldn't fancy doing it with the front in-situ personally...
  9. speak to g-werks about this - they always replace one of the lines (think it's the feed) on any charger rebuild they do, as it's crap as standard...
  10. from takig mine off, i would say that there would be little/no stress on the actual cap itself... it's the crossmember itself that takes all the strain, the cap is there just as a precautionary mesaure from what i could see... i's the main big bolt going up through the centre of the engine mount that you want to worry about. don't take it s gospe - but personally i can't see any problems wih driving it like that
  11. hey pal, glad to see it's coming together and my bits are being put to good use. kee us all updated :) i'll have to stop in and say hi next time i'm down that way - besides, i think you may apprecaite a spin in my new motor :D
  12. hey Rob, sorry to hear you're having problems pal - the front mount should just go straight on (if you haven't got an oil cooler in the way - mocal is defo the way forward here). also (you can probably see it in my pics (can't remember of hand without looking) i had a small adapter made up - basically it's just a sleeve to bridge the gap that you'll fnd is present for the long, thin bolt that goes through the top of the starter and into the engine mount. by etting the sleeve made up you'll avoid any potential bending of the engine mount... hope you get it all sorted pal - make sure you get some pics up - we can be more helpful then :D
  13. they do look nice - that's strange about the company name though - godspeed is also the name of a brakes company set up by a guy called ian godney who takes stock brakes and improves them..
  14. fantastic car - i LOVE porsche's :D not so sure about the yellow; but everyone's different. i'll give you a race in my new car :norty:
  15. hey there pal - google allisport (or something like that); they can make absolutely anything you want (at a price!) also i do have a standard, not leaking but battered rad you're welcome to. i's fairly new actually, it has just been a bit battered through various mechanical exploits with m own car. it should still do for ages i would have thought. it's not an oem item, bt it's pretty much identical i size from what i remember... yours for £40 collected if you want it... edit - and ally does cool more efficiently than copper/steel or whatever they use in other rads, but it's more expensive and more delicate
  16. not trying to hijac the thred or anything here (don't want to be cheeky) - but if it's any use to you i have a set of refurbished driveshafts for sale (basically de-rusted and resprayed - see my r32 build thread) with all four brand new genuine oem cv joints - i'm after £200 collected - bargain when you thing one new cv joint on it's own is circa £150 iirc. i do have the receipt for the cv joints somewhere - just need to dig it out when i get home. the driveshafts have done approx 500 miles since i re-did them and fitted them to my car... whatever happens - hope you get it all sorted :) (oh and next time you're round at the garage, i would mention that to the MOT man - how on earth did he miss that?!??? - to$$er!)

as you look at where the cables attach to the shift mech on the gearbox, one is higher than the other. it's this top one you need to be adjusting - it's a simple job, just need a 13mm spanner; undo the nut that holds the plastic cale mount in place and move the cable mount around until you can get all the gears. (obivously re-tighten the nut in between go's adjusting it) it's a bit of a trial and error thing as every car is different - try adjusting it and it will soon become obvious. also it only needs small movements to make a noticable difference in the car; like i said though - you're best off just getting stuck in and it will soon become clear. it's only a 20 minute job at most - the worst thing is going to wash your hands/take gloves off when you get in and out of the car to feel what the gearstick feels like! let us know how you get on - just remember to only adjust the top cable :)
  18. hey there pal - meant to say thanks for the steer - liking your sisters car :) i'm already a member of the club - they've got so many resources it's unreal! as for power - well; check out this ebay item that i may have just aquired and you'll get the idea for what sort of power i'm ultimately aiming for - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 0356779394 by the time i've got the engine all built up, i'll almost certainly take the evo out of daily service and put it somewhere to be used only at weekends. for the time being though, i'm going to get it so it's all runnnng nicely (hopefully) and just drive/maintain it in the mean-time while the beastly engine is being build on the side lines (mwahahahaha! ) that way, i can have a (hopefully) reliable and fast daily, while having a project on the side too - just what i was after :D
  19. tiny bit late, but happy birthday pal - seats look lovely :D you just need to find another corrado to put my seats in now too!!!
  20. hey Kip - fantastic to see the work getting done - especially at Dave and Graham's place :D you'll be happy as larry when you've had that done - such peace of mind for the future. your car is looking stunning as always - i don't blame poor Dave and Graham for being apprehensive about it - wouldn't you be if you were in their shoes!!! i'm sure they'll see you right though - i don't know anyone like those two who have the passion, enthusiams and most importantly UNDERSTANDING to do a cracking job on other people's motors - like their website says - run by enthusiats for enthusiats :D (i just wish they did more jap stuff now!) keep us posted pal - love seeing piccies of your lovely motors :)
  21. Unless you get the Impreza Type 25 with the trick dif, scoobies are very prone to understeer. In the Evo turn into the corner twice as fast as you dare, get your foot on the loud pedal and laugh like a hill billy on crack as you get sling shot onto the next straight with a whiff of oversteery goodness   i used to have a 2004 impreza wrx sti wr1 - that had the trick adjustable diff - it still wasn't a patch on the evo - NOT A PATCH!!! like all other imprezas it was horrifically understeery, you could get round this through power oversteer, but not only was it a pretty snappy/nasty transition between the two, it wasn't exactly what i would call "recommended" for public roads! i actually think the older classic shape imprezas were less prone to understeer; my friend used to have a P1 which i got to drive quite a lot - i actually preferred that to my wr1 in hindsight - even so, it would still understeer. the steering on all imprezas i've driven is just so wooly and lacking decent feedback - especially when compared to that of the evo - i'm really shocked abut just how much of a day/night difference the evo is to my old impreza - the steering is almost like that of a rear-driver - BRILLIANT is all can say!   the impreza always left me cold at all the wrong moments - definitely not a drivers car like the evo Matt - further to your comment - i have a small story! :D i haven't been giving the evo much beans yet as i need to get used to driving a rally slag again before i'm competent and so i don't bend it! however.... the other day it was about 15 mins after a shower (just when the roads are really greasy) and the sun was out. the traffic in hereford was a bad as usual! as i was coming off a roundabout with a nice clear run off i saw a friend of mine in the queue going the other way. there was a nice clear, wide road off the roundabout, so i gave it a little beans (not loads, but a squirt) and came off the roundabout beautifully with just about a foot or something (small basically) of oversteer and flew off down the road - i felt like a driving god! - i was chuffing brilliant! obviously the car was resposible for 99% of it, but it felt so brilliant - really wish i could have seen it from my friend's perspective... anyway, on that note - the backside of the evo is soooooooo muc more manageable than the impreza - driving in front of my friend's gt4 the other day, hit a massive oil-slick on a roundabout (thankfully taking it easy!) and the backside came out quite badly; but it was so controllable. once i came off the roundabout there was more oil and it sung out again (this time in the opposite direction),but it felt so eay to sort it all out - i know i would have been spinning there if i was in the impreza without a doubt. anyway, thanks very much for all the coments above - i really am LOVING the car. it has to be said, i really don't like the image - i think the car looks like it's been repeatedly punched in the face until the person doing the punching got so tired they had to stop! - HOWEVER (and it's a big however) - that is all made up for the second you get behind the wheel and the car pins you back in your seat and puts a massive grin on our face from ear to ear! (it's stll not fast enough though - either it's not making full boost, or i'm just used to fast cars and will clearly need to make it faster! - watch this space....) (by the way Dave - thanks for your comment. i have the cables etc off the car; just gimme a buzz to remind me about the show and whatday you're going etc, as i guarntee i'll forget! thanks again pal - take care :) )
  22. Howdy all, just thought i would post up a couple of piccies of my new car for those who are interested. It's a Evo 6, basically standard (for now), had 74k on the clock when i got my hands on it and has been in the same area/serviced by the same mechanic all it's life! needless to say i've got all the history for it, and it sees to be a very very straight, very well looked after example. there are a couple of little niggles that i'm busy sorting at the mo, but the plan for now is to leave it pretty much standard (while i build a monster engine for it in the mean time) and just get it all up together so everything on it is mint. the stickers are going asap and it's having a full service (engine, gearbox, transfer box and diff oils, coolant, brakefluid etc etc), cambelt and new front bearings in the next week or two. i'm also going to refurb the wheels, so in the mean-time i've arranged to pick up some other wheels with tyres on them to run me round on (see bottom pic - not my car, but my wheels) hope you all approve (sorry again all to break my car - i can assure you it was more heartbreaking for me than for any of you watching...) pics:
  23. so have you got the rear beam on now then darling? oh by he way - forgot to mention when you picked it up, the nearside bearing was all good, but the offside (think it was that way round...) had a tiny bit of play and needed adjusting. they are new bearings anyway and i did let you have them and the discs for the correct price! :D oh and - WE NEED PICS!!! take care pal :)
  24. hey there pal, lines are looking good. they will probably seal up just fine, but it looks like you are using the wrong die in your end flaring tool - your ends are concave, but the oem ends are convex... they will probably seal just fine - just so you know for future... keep up the good work pal :)
  25. you say that now! - i think mine went in and out about 4-5 times before i was happy with everything! then again, it is much easier when you have the kit to hand... good luck buddy :D
