  1. well the evo is getting a FULL service this weekend, hopefully after that i won't have to touch it for a while for anything other than to drive it. anyway, i managed to get some gauges fitted last weekend (i really should have been doing oher things as my time is so limited, but i thought bugger it - i want to know what my engine is doing and they look cool to boot!) there are a few shots, unfortunately there was very bright sunlight on the day and the pics were only on my phone - i'm fairly happy with them though - but i'm very interested to hear peoples thoughts on them... the stereo surround is being replaced and done nicely by the way - it only looks that rough as i was running out of time and needed to finish. also before anyone asks - i've earthed the two oil pressure/temp gauges as they flash if they don't have a signal. and one of the pics has the stereo/gauge switched off - it's not the glare from the sun pics -
  2. Rob, if it makes you feel any better, i recently parted with over 200 sheets at opie oils for new engine/gearbox/transfer box/diff oils, along with some new coolant to boot! i've also got a brake and clutch fluid lined up at somepoint soon - but that's after i've done the cambelt and both front bearings! the joys of buying cars and sorting them out when you first get hold of them!
  3. Zonda f Veyron Audi rs4 (daily) Carrera gt Gt3 rs My Evo 6 (with uber engine fitted!) Lambo murcielago lp670 Ferrari f430 scuderia Nissan gtr Caterham r500 superlight And I could go on with lots lots more! But that little list will do me for now… I would have another massive list for project cars as well, but that’s another story! (maybe another thread?!)
  4. that's crap mate - no wonder you are disappointed. at least you know the car is making good power! :)
  5. not sure i all honesty pal - 280mm is a bit small though don't you think...
  6. its worth getting new splash plates. by cover, i take it you mean the mittle mtal ring that sit up againt the seal on the outside of the bearing? you can get it off with a puller; i think the general consensus on here is just to discard it. as long as your seal is in good nick, then the splash guard should be all the protection you need. and yes - that's all on the inside of the disc and you need to take the disc off to gain access...
  7.   great stuff - be getting all that power down properly at last then! i have to confess i don't actually know that much about the numbers on turbos. i know how they work, all the different variables that affect them and how there are put together, but other than gt30/gt35/gt40 etc i'm a bit lost! i must find out asap as the turbo is obviously the heart and soul of an evo!
  8. basically the way the abs system works is by sensing when a wheel stops turning while you're braking. (when this happens it obviously cuts the braking power etc - but that's going off on a tangent). the reason the abs ring is there is to allow the abs sensor to tell whether or not the wheel is still turning, and hence to cut or not cut the braking power to that wheel in order to stabilise the car. here's a pic of an abs ring, which will hopefully make things a bit clearer: the slotted cut outs are there to tell the sensor (via magnetism i think) whether or not thewheel is still turning or not...
  9. if you can get down to ross on wye, then i have a standard o2a diff which was working perfect when removed. you can have it with the steering column surround for £30...
  10. as the others have said - find out exactly what is wrong before you go shaking spanners at the car! once you know what's wrong then get back to us with all the detail and we'll be able to talk you through it step by step :D
  11. they cost about £60 new from partco and other similar type places as far as i remember. also (dunno about genuine ones) the ones i got had plastic sheaths rather than the metal ones like the originals that came out. still worth putting copper grease on them before fitting them though. another thing it's worth doing is giving the actual hole in the stub axle a really good clean before putting the new ones in. the only other thing you might want to consider while you're there is new abs rings - they just push onto the backs of the discs and are pretty cheap to pick up.
  12. afaik, the biggest disc you can run under 16's is going to be the 312mm conversion. i don't think they will fit under all 16" wheels, but they will fit under most. the 312's aren't a bad setup, but it depends on how fst your car is and how hard you drive it as to what setup you go for. check out corrado vr6 turbo's thread - he runs 312mm discs, but with tar-ox 6-pots. that said though, i think he has to run 17's due to the size of the calipers; he also has to run wheels spacers (albeit very thin ones) to get the spoke clearance
  13. i recon somewhere near the 350bhp mark with around similar torque, maybe a touch more... (forgotten what turbo you're running now - is it a gt30 or gt35? - guessing a 35...) looking forward to seeing the graphs afterwards! :norty: aren't the coilpacks made by a companny called Beru? i thought you were running less than 17 psi by the way - i now have boost envy! just fitted a gauge to the evo this weekend and i'm making about 12.5 PSI (which is a fairly halthy standard figure) - i recon that's going to have to go up before long!
  14.   great to hear this - bet you're so pleased to have that weight off your shoudlers!
  15. not as much a fan of your tyres looking at them there though pal - are those NANKANGs?!! - cheapskate!
  16. those brakes look absolutely magical pal - they sit sooooo nicely behind those wheels; really subtle - you wouldn't know anything about them unless you know your stuff about cars - PERFECT! 8)
  17. that's dead unlucky pal - sorry to hear this. i'm surprisedd considering who did the rebuild as well - like you said, these thing just happen. i guess it must have only just happened.... (i'm guessing you haven't noticed any blue smoke from your car before now anyway!....) wouldn't the car massively over-fuel like that; or does the fuelling map monitor the MAP and adjust accordingly?
  18. that was quick! glad you are pleased with it pal. when on mine it was a tight fit over the rear beam (hence the zip tie around the one rubber hanger), it never hit the beam though. in my experience with them o varous different cars, magnex have always made some very nice exhausts and i've never had a complaint once.
  19. looking at them again - it looks like the male end that goes into the caliper will fit (at least that's exactly how my old ones looked). the end that fixes onto the inner wing looks like it might be different to a standard corrado item. if i'm remembering correctly, the standard fitment is kind of like the head of a torx bit - it is in like a star shape and the female end of the brake-hose slots up into it. when i fitted my 312's i drilled the hole out to fit the new hoses and held them in place with clips in the same way as the hoses on the rear beam are held in with clips. it looks like the female end of those hoses might be for a Mk3 golf o something similar possibly  afaik the standard corrado ftment has a "star" type arrangemnt to hold the brake hose in place...
  20. mine were a banjo fitment - pretty certain all 288/312's are the same calipers pal those hoses look like the ones i originally took off my old 280's many moons ago!
  21. if Bruny can't help you then Goodridge do deal direct with the public. their phone number is 01392 369090. as for the blowing put an old wallet or something similar over the tailpipe exit to almost seal it up and that will make the blow much more pronounced if there is one - you'll be able to tell much easier then and where it's coming from too.
  22. South West In-Car Tech won't be that expensive if you just get him to do the wiring for you. if you want him to do the lot (i.e. take him the car then you drive it away), then that will involve a re-map and slight altering of the ecu coding (to code out things like the aux air pump etc) - that will obviously be a bit more expensive again, but it won't be that much - circa £600ish all in i would guess including the remap, wiring etc. i only don't know th exact amount as i had more stuff done at the same time as my alarm packed up during the conversion etc etc
  23. stunning mate simply, stunning 8)
  24. thanks very much for that pal :) the conomy is not great; but tbh - you don't buy an evo/impreza etc expecting it to be economical (i know all to well from my previous scooby!) if i'm driving sensibly (i.e 60-80mph) and on a long run then the car will return 30mpg without too much hassle. if driving it hard on b-roads, you can expect that figure to sink to the mid teens! it all depends how you drive it in all honesty; but be under no illusions - they really are not cheap to run, so make sure you are aware of that if you're thinking of getting one.... He he you arent holding back then LOL  I must admit that the best Evo's I have been in 'only' run 400bhp. They are just such a good package with that sort of power, a really well set up chassis and fast spooling BB turbo. You have to bear in mind that if you are going big power 500bhp plus then you are going to suffer from a bit of turbo lag and hence reduced driveability. No doubt that they are insanely fun though! I think my sis's car is pretty fast at 365bhp. Easily quick enough for every day driving, as fast as anything you are going to come accross bar 911 Turbo's. However at bruntingthorpe on a 30-130mph day I did the aforementioned in 20 secs and the Norris Designs Evo running silly Evo power did it in 6.19 secs! Now that IS SERIOUSLY fast  So if I was you I would get your's Ecuteked (ECU remap) with a new fuel pump, exhaust and filter (if not already fitted). This will give you 360bhp for everyday and then you can have fun in the evenings building the BEAST :norty: You certainly seem happy now which is the main thing, glad you have managed to move on from the C. ENJOY! 8) Matt thanks very much pal - don't think i'm going to do much to it (certainly no more than what you've said anyway) until i have the uber engine ready to go in. recon i'll just enjoy it until then and spend my time underneath my girlfriend instead of my car every weekend!
