  1. unlucky my friend - i was thinking that mine could be the FPR the other day, as i recon it must be fuel related.... really hope you manage to get it all sorted my friend - best of luck :)
  2. are the cross members for the 4 cylinder engines the same as the ones for the 6 pots? i will hopefully be taking mine off in the next week or two and i want to be able to have sourced another one "just in case" the rust monsters have seriously taken hold! i don't think it's too bad from what i remember, but i want to know i can get hold of another if needs be... needless to say, if it will fit, would you mind provisionally holding it for me for a week or two until i know what state mine is in..... (for a sensible price obviously) thanks very much :) glad to see your build is coming along so well by the way. do you recon you will get it back on the road for the winter, or are student funds too tight at present?
  3. looking good my friend - think i preferred the original grille with the VW badge and without the eyebrow spoiler, but still looking 1000% better than before :) roughly how many ponies do you recon you are running now?
  4. looks lovely - congrats on all your efforts - well worth it, well done :)
  5. yeah good plan - not a job to be done on your own unless you have the right kit. powerflex bushes etc are easy to fit on your own but OE jobbies are swines. it would probably be a good idea to leave the old sleeves in the beam to make sure that the garage press the new ones in with the correct orientation. and yeah - it's easier to cut/burn the old rubber out and then remove the old sleeve by putting a hacksaw blade through it and making a small cut to relieve the tension between the sleeve and the beam so you can knock it out.
  6. nice - it's great getting shiny new stuff to put on :) the bushes for the rear beam bushes come like that - they are pressed in like that too - you will see when you get your rear beam off. you don't need to do anything special with them or modify the beam to make them fit.
  7. hey there my friend, good to see things are coming along nicely. liking the calipers there - looking good. i know what you mean about the lights as well; i'm not a huge fan of the orange, but i'm having reall problems finding something else that i think looks good. by the way, if you end up not using your brembo stickers, can i shotgun them please?! i was looking to get hold of either a stencil or some stickers for when i sort my calipers out. hope you manage to get the shocks all sorted easily enough; the shot blasters should bring them up nicely. :) shame about the manifold, i'm sure it will become clear in good time! i recon i'm going to go gloss black for the calipers with a white brembo logo - should look nice and not stand out too much either i'm hoping.
  8. it's a 16v rad though. oh - ok, my apologies. i was under the impression all 'rado rads were the same.... egg on my face! :ignore: cheers
  9. no worries buddy - i'll PM you when i'm back and have got it off, as i don't know exactly when that's going to be yet. hopefully within the next couple of weeks though to give you a rough idea.
  10. depending on how old your rad is, a new one might be the best bet. it does sound like it could just be the rad neck though. i'm unsure if you can get a standard part to replace these as they are known to fail. if you can't get a standard part, then gruvenparts do an ally rad neck to replace the plastic one - a little expensive at around £70, but looks very nice and guaranteed never to fail ever again... hope you manage to get it all sorted anyway :)
  11. hey there buddy - i have one on my car - all it consists of is a sheet of aluminium. you can easily make one up yourself with an ally sheet and a pair of tin-snips. either that, or if you can wait, you can have the one off my car when i go R32 in a few weeks if you can wait - call it £10 inc postage if you want it... see this thread for a piccy - viewtopic.php?f=11&t=62901&start=0
  12. alright i'll raise you - maybe a crowbar, a bacon sandwich and some V-Power vouchers! what d'ya recon?!
  13. ditto both of the above karl - what's happening. (i recen he's too busy out of the house driving it personally fellas - his mrs will have to pry him out of the drivers seat with a crow bar!)
  14. the holes for the track rod ends in the hub carriers for a VR are DEFINITELY tapered; unsure about the hub carriers on earlier cars, but i would imagine they are too... as for how much of a difference putting the track rods on the other way round on a rado if you could - i have absolutely no idea! - maybe you should pioneer it for the rest of us! :)
  15. car is looking great - good for you. have to confess my favourtie rims were the LM reps, but it still looks good on those - very similar to chazrad's on here. he has the TD 1's not 1.2's loving the 24v lump as well (2.8 one i take it by the cover...) who did the conversion for you (stealth?) and how long did it take them. don't need to know a price unless you feel like sharing, but was it expensive? bet you are loving the extra grunt now :D
  16. congrats on giving up smoking - good for you - i absolutely hate the habit, so well done! i've not mentioned anything in this thread yet, but i had a look through it from the start the other day - absolutely loving your car. i love the green storms (sometimes wish i had waited and bought one myself) and i love the RX's; same wheels as mine. your car looks immaculate, so it's good you can keep it that way. :) my 'rado is my only car and is naturally my daily. it's a shame to drive it in the winter, but i couldn't drive anything else and i only generally do motorway miles etc in it until i get home. i'm sure you will enjoy making the most of having something that hates fuel too with prices as they are!
  17. good luck my friend - hope you get it all sorted. you might want to get a mate to help you (if available) with lining up the steering UJ with the rack and making sure the bolts recess is correctly lined up. once mine was lined up, i had to tap the UJ down over the splines on the rack with a bar - only very lightly, but it didn't want to just slide all the way of it's own accord. i found it easiest with a trolley jack underneath when i did mine too. as i said, good luck anyway :)
  18. a reliable 8000rpm out of a 4.2 V8 - glorious :D have you looked at the V8 in the BMW E92 M3 - from looking at design piccies, i think each inlet has it's own throttle body - lovely stuff!
  19. got to be the R32 all the way - head designed by cosworth if i'm not mistaken, and that exhaust note :norty:
  20. had a similar problem on mine which i mean to sort very soon. sounds like it's either the gearbox sender, or, there is a small voltage regulator with a three prong conection on it on the back of the clocks. if you go to vagparts.com and type in voltage regulator into the search then you will see it. apparently the solder connections on these sometimes dry up and just need re-soldering. if not then a new regulator is only a few quid... if you want to be sure - just do as i am and renew both - should be less than 30 sheets all in and you then have peace of mind. hope you get it sorted :)
  21. hey there my friend - i would love to post up some piccies, but i'm not even in the country at the moment! - promise i'll get loads up when i get back :) my poor mum has been great - so patient - every week there are more bits flying though the door for her to "file"for me for when i get back! :D
  22. great stuff buddy - does that mean i will have the honour of seeing it in the flesh when we swap the brakes over?!! :norty: can't wait to see/hear the results my friend - should be awesome
  23. sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet! :notworthy:   8)
  24. haha - fair enough, cheers buddy! how are things with you now anyway - have you still got your car or is it off being "made better!" at the phirm?!
