  1. really nice looking car there my friend - i really like those abt wheels too - might try and look some of those up for mine. they look like they might clear brembos too...
  2. the 300m of plastic over the discs would have been holding in the protective oily type stuff that is put on discs to protect them and stop them going rusty when they are new. you shouldn't need to sand the discs before they go on, although a good clean with brake cleaner/white spirit is definitely a must to remove all the protective gunk. you always don't have to, but it's not a bad idea to lightly sand the surface of the pads before you put them on - just helps them bed in better and ensures any contaminants are removed. it might be worth just whipping the pads out, giving them a quick sand, cleaning the discs with brake cleaner/white spirit and whacking it all back together. most brakes take a while to bed in anyway, not matter how thorough you are when installing them. it normally takes a good few journeys for them to bed in properly and have good bite/feel. (manufacturers quote something like 100-200 miles, but that's a bit excessive IMO). until they are bedded in you will not stop as quickly as you normally would, especially when you intially brake for the first couple of times. like toad says, just give them a few more hard stops without frying them and they should start to feel much better. let us know how you get on :D
  3. if that's the case - the alignment place that you took it to may not have done the camber bolts up tight enough. this happened with mine - i took it back to the place with new camber bolts from vw and they confirmed it had gone out again and re-did their work, fitting the new bolts for next to no extra charge. just tell the alignment place they have done be done up hoofing tight! - i'm sure if you asked them nicely they would pop it back on the ramps, just to confirm their work is still good - not a very helpful place if they won't confirm their own work after all....
  4. True! Well I hope it helps others.. I'm trying to crack on and get it finished as quickly as possible.. as I'm dying to drive it.. will be such fun and also the noise! (may have to get rid of one of the silencers! ) Ben looking really good there my friend. your pics are invaluable to me being as will be doing more or less the same thing before long (although i'm chickening out and getting someone to do the wiring for me being as i'm retaining the standard ecu/loom etc). can't wait to see it finished. the r32's do sound sweeeeet don't they! i'm going to be running milltek sports cats and a bmc cda on mine; the cats are going onto a magnex system. i hope it's not going to be too loud as it will be my daily once it's sorted; hopefully the bmc will keep noise down a little if i fit a long air feed... best of luck buddy - sure you'll have it sorted soon :)
  5. you sure it's not just the whole bearing that has given way? - that would explain things a bit more clearly...
  6. yes i've got the standard rears - had those redone by biggred too. with the front's you will need different carriers - the calipers are different from the standard VR ones as well... i have a set of 288 carriers that are sat doing nothing if you want those for 25 posted?... - they will need a good scrub up with a wire brush unless you send them to biggred as well... (as i used 312 carriers which have now been sold with my calipers in exchange for some brembos.) i can recommend the job that biggred do though - their finish is lovely. although the fittings they provide you with are of poor quality (sliders/bolts etc), so IMO it's best to either reuse the old VW ones or just buy new ones. hope that helps :)

aha! - i noticed it was left hand drive from the wipers, shoudl have guessed really! good luck with getting it sorted anyway buddy, thanks very much :D
  8. thanks very much for that buddy - well appreciated :thumb right: really can't wait to see this in setup and running :) so are you going to buy it after you have done the conversion? - you know you want to come back to corrado ownership don't you!
  9. just ordered one of these too - thanks very much :thumb right:

hey there my friend, don't want to be cheeky here or anything as this isn't related to your thread, but where did you get your strut brace and does it fit ok - i'm after one for the front and have looked at one option so far, but i'm interested in yours too. sorry, any information you could give me would be most appreciated - drop me a PM if you like... hope you get your suspension troubles all sorted out thanks very much, Pete
  11. hey there can't help you with the part numbers i'm afraid, but yes you will definitely have to change all of the gaskets :)
  12. hey there again my friend - don't want to be a pain, i was just wondering if you could enlighten me on a couple of things. i've been looking for an aeromotive FPR - what model have you got in the end, and if you don't mind my asking, how much did you pay for it? i was checking this out on fleabay (item no 230277269701), it's for an evo, but it looks to come with everything i would need... also all the aeromotive fpr's i've looked at seem to be for Forced Induction applications - i'm sure they will do NA as well if you get the right one won't they?... i have taken plenty of engines to bits etc, but transplanting an engine into a car it's not meant to go in is new territory for me and i obviously want to make sure i do it right :) thanks very much, Pete
  13. looking good there buddy :) i take it you are retaining the standard oil cooler if you are modifying the front engine mount... - why not just go mocal? also are you going to mount the FPR on the strut there - looks like that's what you've got planned, i guess it's the logical place. what are you doing about the aux air pump - see you've removed it for the time being, are you planning on keeping it, or just deleting it? glad to hear everything is coming along so well for you anyway - keep it up. how long do you recon now before we hear it running?! :)
  14. hey there buddy - very nice, will look very classy once you've got it all sorted with the new wheels. top marks on your rebuild - you should be very proud :D by the way, it's a vr...... with 4 studs..... see it used to be a valver, but then you had pics of it fitted with 5 studs what going on there?
  15. hey there buddy hows things? great to catch up the other day, sorry i wasn't there after your car arrived back - the new wheels do look very good my friend. i'm not a fan of the motorsport look on a corrado, but they do look very good. have you got the car back from the garage yet? - looking forward to seeing some more pics of it with those beauties sitting under the front wheels :D glad you are pleased with the rebuild and i'm glad you can clearly feel the peloquin as the roads around hereford are schitt - very much looking forward to getting mine sorted now. :) keep us all posted buddy - looking forward to seeing this again when i get back :D all the best, Pete
  16. cheers for that buddy - i'll make sure i hang onto the alternator bracket off my 12v engine when it goes. i was having a brain fart there - completely forgot about the FPR! i will add an aeromotive jobby to my shopping list! :) thanks again matey - cheers for the update, can't wait to see this one finished :D
  17. also watching this one with interest - good for you! i was looking at mine the other day, there is no sign of a PAS pump, so i think i'm going to have to get hold of a bracket off a 2.8 24V as well, along with the pulleys. also there is no fuel return on the mk5 i could see (unlike the mk4 r32) - what were your plans there, going to remove it completely? i should be making a start on mine come the end of september, so i will be watching this very closely :) good work my friend, keep us all updated :D Pete
  18. take a trip to your local halfrauds/motor factors - you can pick up spanners specially designed to remove brake line fittings - they are nearly a full ring spanner, but they leave a little slot in them to allow you to slip the head over the solid line. they will give you a much better chance of getting the fittings off without rounding them. short of that, then it's a hacksaw, vise-grips and some new lines :) have fun! :D
  19. you will probably just have to tap the sleeve the rest of the way in with a soft headed hammer - that's what i had to do on mine if i recall. they should tap in relatively easily though...
  20. looks so much better buddy, you should be pleased. not really a big fan of the lights, but it's so much nicer than how it was before. somehow those wheels (which i'm not really a bgfan of normally) really suit it - looks really good as a package :)
  21. mate that's unbelievably crap luck - really sorry for you buddy. oh the joys of corrado ownership eh?! :brickwall: 24v is definitely the way forward mate - it's a complete pain in the arse being car-loss, but i have managed for several months when i thought i could never ever do without. you will really miss it, but it' definitely worth doing the swap if you can - once it's done (in theory!) you won't have to worry about it again. it's like going modern without having to get a fat, sloppy modern shell!
  22. seats are going to look good my friend - keep up the good work :D
  23. that's unlucky my friend, i guess whatever your problem is it must be exactly the same as mine, being as mine persisted after doing my head gasket. i labelled up all my connectors with insulation tape when i removed them, so my wiring should all be in the right place. short of the maf/injectores or something along those lines i can't think what else it would be either. mine had a new coilpack, plugs and leads and was still doing it - difficult one. please keep us all posted, i'm obviously especially interested as well. really hope you manage to get it all sorted buddy...
  24. still unsure about those vents..... what about some vents that run flush with the bonnet and don't stand out and upset the lines so much? very much marmite i guess! - i'm all for stormcharged's comment of putting some spacers in to raise the rear of the bonnet slightly... hows the running in coming now anyway buddy - anymore news on what you will be doing management wise once you are ready for it? i'm surprised you didn't snap kev's old dta up when karl had it up for sale....
  25. i only got back today - it was awesome opening my many parcels all of shiny parts for the car - like christmas only much much better!
