  1. hmm, its alright... got anything a bit faster?
  2. hardly trounces it, by pvw's own admission. The only way to do a fair test of the two engines would be to put them in the same car, ie test a g40 in the polo, then swap it out for a g60 lump and note the differences. I'm fairly sure if you put the g60 from the above corrado in the polo, it'd be producing much better figures than with the standard g40 engine. comes down to power/weight at the end of the day.
  3. personally i'd take it easy on the launch, gentle to start with until you've got traction, then floor it. Takes alot of practice to get stig-like starts with the right ballance of wheel spin and grip, so in a race situation i tend to not even try! 9 times out of 10 you find the other guy gives it too much hoof and you get ahead while hes making smoke and rubbery smells.
  4. Parkers specs for the Golf Anniversary: http://www.parkers.co.uk/choosing/specs/data.aspx?model_id=1031&id=23250 If its the same 1.8T used in audi's then you 'should' beat him if yours is running right. my vr is pretty much standard and i've beaten an a3 1.8t, and suprisingly a s3 in an uphill sprint, although that was very close.
  5. http://www.eurocarparts.com I think i saw them in the catalogue rather than on the website though... halfarts sell them too, they're just a few quid more expensive.
  6. oh and pm me about that reiger grille if you still want it mate...
  7. buy some spacers! a spacer is a thin (ish) metal disc that sits between the hub and the wheel, in effect changing the offset of the wheel so it sits further away from the hub. You'll need longer wheel nuts too, but that should be about it. wheel off, spacer on, wheel on, job done. I think euro car parts do a 6mm spacer at around £10 for 2. I was going to space the wheels on my old valver but never got around to it.
  8. well if everyone else is counting the contents of their shed i will too! 2 full sets of alloys + tyres for the vr, one of the fox alloys is buckled and needs refurbing, but the other set, bk299's, are pukka and going on for the winter. various bits a bobs of corrado which are either spares, or new waiting to go on (more of the latter). an assortment of car shampoo's and cleaning products couple of spiders fiesta 15" steely with tyre (dont ask)
  9. tax is set at a fixed price per litre, not a %, as music man pointed out in another post.
  10. if this were a tax issue i'd be inclined to agree, but the fact is the tax level is the same, its because of the hurricane forcing the closure of refineries in america, and so the demand for oil going up. personally, although i'm not thrilled about how quickly its going up in price, I can totally understand why it is and realistically paying an extra £5 or so every time i fill up isnt going to kill me (yes, i know 'it all adds up' etc etc etc) I think its unrealistic to expect the government to cut tax on fuel when they've done nothing to increase the price in the first place.
  11. yup, time to break my £20 top-up barrier and fill the beast to the brim, then take a little trip to halfords for some plastic petrol cans!

    Lost 20 BHP!

ah, if thats at the wheels it probably about right, you loose a few BHP as the power gets transmitted through the gearbox etc down to the wheels, i dont think 20bhp is too bad for transmission losses is it?

    Lost 20 BHP!

as should a 18 16v, timing retarded maybe?
  14. crackling sound from the center console? is this when you move the controls or just when its blowing air or what? getting stuffy inside the car, well (and this is using my own special blend of logic) if the heaters not working right obviously it wont cool you down much, and if the engine temperature sensor isnt working right the fans might not be cutting in to cool the engine down, meaning theres more heat to be transfered into the car. have you noticed the fan coming on at all when the engines hot?
  15. not mine mate, H8RRA's supercharged, long throw billet cranked, 6 speed, LSD'd, nitros'd monster! see his 3rd pic, hard to tell from that though, just looks like 'an engine' to me!
  16. lucky to find a low milage 1.8! get a big roll of seleotape and wrap it, sticky side facing out, around your hand then give the inside of the car a good rub down. my first corrado's previous owner had a dog too... although he swore he never let it in the car! the coolant guage could just be a dodgy sensor which aren't expensive to replace, and the noisy heater... does the noise come from behind the glovebox? if so its the heater fan, again not too expensive to replace at all.
  17. personally with standard 15's on I'd be putting spacers on to push them out and sit flush with the arches.
  18. aye, first to start their car wins... ;) (race null and void once the 3.1 is actually up and running!)
  19. thats not a nice way to talk about chris  Technically i dont have a garage, just an oversized shed with 'bits' in, so my contributions will be mostly sarcastic.
  20. none since i passed, although god knows how...
  21. brand new VAG MAF's are the best part of £350, so that'll account for a large chunk of the cost, although I hear bosch do an exchange program where they take your old on and give you a reconditioned one for £150... sorry i dont know any more info than that on it! You could change the MAF yourself, its a real doddle, £200 saved.
  22. they're going for decent money on the trader, more than corrado's on average anyway!
  23. both you and ben have proven you dont need to chrome everything in sight to create a showstopper, good work fella!
  24. its going to take a long time for anyone to top the specs on that thing, aside from the engine the development that'll have gone into the chassis for it to cope with the power must be unreal. Wonder how much its going to cost?
