    Tailgate rust repair

They're "nutserts" also known as "clinch nuts". I'll be able to use some nice stainless cap screws in there now instead of the rusty self tappers that probably caused the rust to take hold in the first place. Come to think of it, putting some of these in to existing tailgates is probably quite a good rust preventative mod, assuming existing rust isn't too bad. I taught myself last year, in order to patch in a new drivers side rear arch. In hindsight it was probably a bit of an ambitious job to take on as a first welding project but it turned out not too bad. It's going to need a slap of filler before it goes to get sprayed, but hopefully only a skim. The welding itself isn't too hard once you get the hang of it; it's probably one of those things you have to do for a while until it "clicks". Once I finally get the car sprayed I'll stick all my pictures in a build thread in the members gallery.

    Tailgate rust repair

    Thanks :). Like this:
  3. I'm gradually preparing my car for a respray which means going around all the panels and sorting out all the wee bits of rust here and there. I'm quite pleased with this one and couldn't resist sharing:

    Late near side wing

I don't need it massively soon, but I'm part way through stripping the paint off all the other body panels and obviously I can't send it to get sprayed without having everything present. I'd say within the next fortnight or so.

    Late near side wing

Preferably with no dents/filler/rust, or at least the bare minimum. The colour isn't important as it's getting resprayed. I'll need it posted unless you're within sensible driving distance of Edinburgh. TIA.
  6. I'll have the near side wing if you're willing to post it?
  7. Ferrari owners who use their vehicles to go to the shops.
  8. Count me in. Worth the money for the peace of mind alone, IMHO.
  9. Right but a change in unsprung mass only (e.g. bigger calipers) will have almost zero effect on the dyno, which is what they're talking about. Rotational mass is the important factor here.
  10. It's not really the increased unsprung mass that is the issue here, it's the increased rotational inertia required to turn the wheels. More unsprung mass will affect your suspension performance though. I'm splitting hairs to a certain extent as it's the same mass that affects acceleration and suspension, but it's an important distinction to make. For example, bigger calipers will increase the unsprung mass but will do nothing to the rotational mass. An effect would be made on the overall power to weight ratio of the vehicle and thus the acceleration, but only slightly. On the other hand, bigger discs will increase the unspring mass AND the rotational mass. It's the latter that increases the turning moment of the wheels and makes them harder to accelerate.

  12. I can't remember, but it wasn't expensive. I got it from an ebay breaker...
  13. Everything bar the actual sunroof panel itself, IIRC; it was just a case of unbolting the old one and replacing it. Of course I picked the one day that week that it rained to do it.
  14. I replaced my sunroof mechanism with one from a Seat Toledo. It's been fine for the past 2 years or so.
  15. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong (and I probably am...). If you're using an uprated headlight loom is it not the case that the only thing the headlight switch is in circuit with is the relay(s)? Since presumably the current draw of a few relays is a lot lower than the headlights themselves, does this not mean that the wiring that goes between the headlight switch and the relays (the ones that have a tendency to catch fire), don't need to carry as much current and thus don't need to be all that big? As I say, if what I'm saying is full of poo, by all means say so :). I'm certainly no expert with electrics.
  16. Yep, it'll be fine. Just copper is usually quite expensive and relatively soft. Not really a problem here though.
  17. Copper? Strange choice.
  18. Show us your mountain bike? On the boot versus roof thing, I don't like giving up being able to open the boot whilst the bikes are on the car. I'm also pretty uncomfortable about the mechanics on hanging 30-50kg off my boot.
