  1. You can get them lower without the spoiler, but kind of pointless as the sump will be dragging along the floor. Being that low would destroy the handling as well. I remember seeing this for sale when I bought mine but those wheels put me off!
  2. I don't doubt it may be possible on new cars, but ultimately, what would anyone actually gain from it? All the article does is scare the easily scared and help boost conspiracy theorists.
  3. The wiring isn't that hard, but it took me about 15 hours to figure out, confirm and make the loom. I learnt a lot in the process, but wouldn't rush into doing it again!
  4. The rest is pretty easy, spanner engine out, spanner engine in.
  5. 92 is the changeover between early and late.
  6. Sounds like scaremongering to me. It's a daily mail type of story.
  7. For anyone interested in the current price (Aug 13) for the parts to convert the base plate on a mk4 02J to the Polo setup, the prices are: 6n0 711 061 a – housing £50.51 6n0 711 090 a - base plate £7.38 6n0 711 611 c - selector arm £8.15 All prices plus VAT from TPS and take a week or so to arrive from Germany
  8. I sold mine for £50 posted last week. They go for that on ebay sometimes, usually 50 to 60 on here.
  9. I managed to source a Polo 9N3 Gear linkage and a 02J shift tower from a mk4 Golf earlier this afternoon. The Gear linkage obviously doesn't fit, I need to get the conversion housing and arm sorted and then I can fit that. I fitted the tower mechanism this afternoon. Went in easily enough, the only concern I have is that the shift weight catches on the radiator upper return pipework. What can I do to change this? All in all, not a bad way of spending £20!
  10. Looks good, only snag I've found now is with the search function. If you search using 3 characters, it will constantly return nothing. I know it's like that to speed up searching, but looking for anything with 3 letters in it is impossible. VR6 02J MK4 CAT DOG ETC You get my drift!
  11. I have received the late passat loom and plugged it in, does anyone know where the male black/red feed that is separate from the green x plug goes? I've tried looking for a late B4 wiring diagram and they don't seem to exist for some reason! One end of the black/red wire is on the 6 pin connecter that goes into the back of the abs light assembly and the other end is separated on its own male plug. I'm not sure if its a constant feed or a brake light feed? The rest of the abs loom is plugged in and working and I can scan it with VCDS and all is well, It's just this abs light and loom that I need to crack!
  12. Here's hoping mate! I've spent enough time sweating over it over the last few weeks for me to put up with the crap asthmatic hamster coughing on me when I turn the fans on! Who knows, I may even drive it one day! I've started fitting up the rear beam brake lines today, but I've lost or broken most of the little plastic brake line clips that hold it in place! Does anyone know the part number for new items?
  13. Bump before I start to throw things in the skip!

  15. You need to rip everything out up to the bulkhead including some of the sound proofing to allow the new heater box to sit properly. You then need to source a heater box and a climate controller unit. The heater box from a MK4 does NOT bolt straight in, although i'm lead to believe that a leon one will, but I don't know any more details than that. You have to drill new holes for the heater box studs to bolt to the bulkhead and then cut a hole for the aircon pipework connections to pass through the bulkhead as well. I then found some wiring diagrams and joined the dots and for now I have a working digital fan setup with a fan that isn't asthmatic! Total cost so far, about £60, time taken, about 20 hours including research for the wiring. I'd be able to fit it in an afternoon now that I know what is going on! I think getting the a/c in and working will be more of an issue than getting the air box in! It's a big job and not to be undertaken lightly, but my car is in pieces and has been for 6 months so I'm happy to spend time on it as and when.
  16. Update, I have finally wired in the rest of the Climatronic system. All I need to do with that now is to plumb in the aircon side of things later on in the project. The only problem I have at the moment is that the recirc servo seems to have restricted movement. I'll look into it some more in the next couple of days. I have also now wired in the Teves20 ABS system and I should be getting the bracket to mount the pump sorted out in the next few days and then I can plumb in the new hard lines and get things moving!
  17. What condition are the steering cowl plastics in?
  18. From the looks of that, I would say that only your ABS ring has had it. Fairly cheap part but heavy on the labour due to having to remove the hub from the bearing to replace it. I'd fight for a new bearing as well as the chances of it being ok after this little episode are quite low, especially if they pull the hub out and refit it. I would contact the Citizens advice if they refuse to fit you in immediately. If they can't fit you in, then ask the Citizens Advice guys what comeback you have if you take it to another garage for repairs. If you are mechanically minded, it's not a tough job to replace the whole hub carrier assembly.
  19. My pleasure, glad it arrived ok!
  20. It's ok mate, I'm sure the wiring is the same but I'll let you confirm.
  21. I do, they're fitted to my dashboard still.
