  1. GSF or VW, about £15 (at least it was for a 16v)

davidwort, Join the club mate, looks like that's at least three of us with soldered switches and birds-nests in the doors, so don't be too dis-heartened! Just think of it as having a 'special' car. I if ever work it out I'll let you know the details, but so far have 'smoked ' several VW 5pin switches  trying to work it out. 'Ah, I love the smell of burning plastic in the morning!'
  3. Sorry, it's not much use to you, but £100 an hour - WTF  !
  4. I liked it, but don't think it's quite at the level that justifies driving for two hours to get to yet. Could use some more traders and some more water-cooled input, which I think will come with time. Same with North Weald, in it's infancy it was very small, but has / is growing in to a very good event. Whitenoise is a few years younger, but I think year on year it will get better and better. It was the first time at the new venue (required because it had out-grown the previous one). It's better if your'e camping as well, because then you get the benefit of the music on Friday / Saturday night too, which I love despite my advancing years, but which might not be to everyone's taste!
  5. Had that on my 16v. There's a small plastic cone at the pedal end of the cable which sits in to a sleeve when you come off the accelerator. After time this cone can get slightly ridged, so instead of sliding back in to place inside the guide, it catches, stops the cable coming 'off' fully and holds your revs up. Change the cable I reckon, relatively cheap.
  6. bcstudent, Yep, that must have been you I saw driving in to pay. I was walking back to the 16v parked off the road. Went back today and saw crazymarcel too. Nice VR! Thought it was a good event, I am getting in to the air-cooled side of things as well as the water cooled, so don't mind the 'junk' (except for beetles, always hated them, give me a spliity, bay or Ghia anyday!
  7. Blue 16v at Whitenoise today? Driving in about 3.00-ish.
  8. Been done very tastefully, normally don't like the different bumpers /wheels look etc, but like this a lot!
  9. My '91 was originally body colured too, replaced it with silver/chrome one recently, looks better in my opinion.
  10. Impressive! I'm still getting used to the wide open horizons in Norfolk, after London many years ago. Couldn't beleive my first night up in Norfolk after London....''erm, awfully dark out there tonight.''..pulls open curtains...WTF, no street lights! Like Norwich though, not bad!
  11. My MPG has been the same before and since drilling (albeit mildly) the airbox. As the guys say more likely an indication / sensing problem.
  12. It's a sh#t world when some tw#t in a crap car can do that to someone's pride and joy. You have my sympathies, hope it gets sorted OK.
  13. But....what the hell are those greeny uppy and downy type things? ......oh yeah, mountains, don't see a lot of them round here.
  14. blimey, it really is quite standard then!
  15. Giving your C keys to someone else....forever........not nice!
  16. I like to think of the one in my early 16v as more 'white gold' or 'polished platinum' rather than silver, thank you!
  17. Mr Werthers, Yep, think you're right, the shiny suit brigade at the dealers seem to just see walking pound notes when Joe Public (old ladies seem favourite prey!) walks in for a service. Yet again today, picking up parts from the decent parts guy, next to the Service Dept heard usual poor service. Smug Service staff calmly telling customer 'don't worry sir, although it won't be ready today, I've taken a worst case view on the car and it's booked in til mid-Staurday. Less than grateful customer 'well that's marvelous, because I'm not local this weekend, so won't get my car back 'til Monday, thanks!' Personally though I think the product knowledge, especially for cars no longer in production, is very hit and miss depending on which dealer you go to.. P.S I always get the impression that if I was stupid enough to ask for a Service price, I would probably get some sniffy young thing that was barely born when the car was made give me an outrageous price, thinking 'those cars aren't even made anymore, we don't want people who don't buy newer cars in here dirtying our workshop!'! :)

    OIL COOLER - HELP

Arghhh. new pipes arrived today...but, the short one intended to run across the front of engine to metal pipe is the same as already there. It's not long enough even to cut the end of the metal pipe to remove the connection where it goes to oil cooler, and connect that way. The longer pipe which should run up to the flange on the block is different, but probably could be made to fit by cutting off one end of the hose! Is this right? Any further advice please over these pipes!
  19. I swear they do it for a laugh ...'go on, next guy that comes in, tell him it's £400 for a wiper blade, go on, I dare you'. To be fair the parts people at my local stealership have looked after me well over the years, but the rest of 'em...laughable!
  20. Nothing like knowing the heritage of the cars you sell is there? Bet they could supply you with a full set of new round ights too...'priced to sell', no doubt. I'll never forget my run in..'it's a 16v'...no it isn't, yes, it is..no it isn't...Jeeeezus!
  21. Glad you got it sorted. I would plan to replace the front one when you get a chance as well in the future, given the mileage and the fact the g'box one was completely shot. Saves putting a nice dent in your bonnet later down the line!

    power window circuit

bigpants baby, Cheers in advance, would love to get some decent proper VW switches in!
  23. Before you go....any comment on the 'Off Topic' section thread titled 'WASP NEST - remove or not?'

    power window circuit

bigpants baby, Come on, your teasing me now! More info please! Wouldn't I and deag, need to source a window controller and wire in new genuine VW switches from there? At the moment I'm in the same boat as deag, with what appear to be non-genuine switches directly wired to the car with no controller . VW ones come with proper connectors and five wires only....so how to wire them in...... :?:
  25. The only good thing (IMO of course), as with a certain other 'Corrado' seen on the Forum, recently for sale, is that at least the Corrado badge has been removed. I would hate to tell someone I owned a Corrado and for them to think mine was like that too!
