Right, I see that Awesome GTI sell a heads up MPH display for VW's about 1992 on, presumably this works by hooking up with the ABS signal to sense how many revolutions the wheels are doing, and processing this in to a speed display. Question is for all you electrical / Maplin browsing type people out there......how hard would it be to make my own system, for an ealry pre 92 Corrado, are there any ready made displays / processors / pick-ups available I could cobble together in to a working system. Failing that I might buy the Awesome GTI system, and try to sort out a suitable pick-up to give it a working signal.....but I'm not too electrically aware so would appreciate component tips...

Don't ask me, have been mulling over buying an Oettinger kitted VR or to go for standard set up for months now! As kits go they are pretty subtle though, which is no bad thing. I also don't like the grille though.

Whats the fastest you have ever been in your Corrado?
kvwloon replied to surfer.vr6's topic in General Car Chat
A shade under 120. Was pootling along on the inside lane of quiet dual carriageway one day, (it was private dual carriageway, honest your honour) when clean C, identical to mine, same colour everything came sweeping past me. Thought, hmm, a mini convoy would look good, so pulled out and briefly joined in. Got to nearly 120 when I suddenly thought better of it, so pulled in and let him carry on. Nice thing was the faster I went the easier and more willing 'she' seemed to be to go even faster. -
CorradoWannabe, Yep, well said, the handling, looks, and comfort of the Corrado are in a different league IMO. Have heard several previous Golf owners (including me) comment you could sit in a Corrado all day, but not a Golf! Don't get me wrong, like the Golf too (it's a VW after all), but give me the Corrado any day.

Yes, all Corrado's have power steering, although don't expect it to feel light, as it's for the sportier driver. Never intentionally raced anything, although have had other people have a go! Have overtaken and surprised loads of things though! Took me a few years to really learn how to get the best out of the 16v, basically the technique seems to involve wringing it's neck, (but not to the red line) they love it! So do I! :D

Think the only tip here is to be patient and keep going til you find 'the one'. At least your'e in the right place to see a decent cared for example come up for sale, here, and the CCGB website are good places to look. Plenty of rough over-priced items out there though! If you see a tempting car but don't want to travel too far in case it turns out to be a dog, check the 'Corrado Pre-viewing' thread to see if any one local is willing to take a look for you first. Good luck.

So, how much of the underside of the engine bay does the cover, erm, cover? And will they also fit early cars / 16v's?
-
think he just means the usual complement of Corrado problems in general. As far as I'm concerned after nearly 6 years of 16v ownership it's a damn fine engine in a damn fine car. Keep the revs up and it can fly along quite nicely.
-
In my opinion, don't; like it! Give me a basically standard car anyday, maybe lowered 30 to 40 mm, Lupo wipers, job done!
-
Louie Lungbubble, Nah, but I do look to see if anyone notices the spolier going down, am amazed no-one ever seems to notice!
-
Hell yeah, keep this one off topic  ....

bcstudent, Yep, only knew about it myself last year! First time it's been at this years location though! Quite enjoyed it, a mix of music and Veedubs. Turned in to a bit of a rave last year, but apparently this year there's Security to shut down the noise at a reasoanable time. Worth a look.

Damn right, 16v to VR, it doesn't matter, they all look good, and all get nice comments / glances. 8)

randal_24, As thread hijacks go, that's the best yet!

Recommended Engine Oil for 1.8 16V 1991
kvwloon replied to CorradoWannabe's topic in Suppliers Forum
CorradoWannabe, Synta Silver for the 16v, definately. Louie Lungbubble, Synta Gold is fully synthetic, more expensive and not necessary for the 16v. Synta Silver is semi-synthetic, which is just what the 16v needs. Good oil, original VW spec., and not expensive. -
Hmm, if the lacquer really has come off, it will need repainting. The only reason for lacquer loss is poor preparation, and once you lose that you are in to the colour coat, which you don't really want to polish. The colour base coat is normally applied without 'glossiness', and then the lacquer is applied on top to give the gloss finish. If the base coat is left too long before applying the lacquer, it won't 'key' in properly with the base coat. I would get a professioanl opinion as to whether it really is lacquer loss, rather than just the lacquer top coat being defective and losing it's glossiness. If the lacquer has just matted a bit but is still there it might be recoverable with elbow greas / cutting compound, but be very careful not to cut through the lacquer if it's still there! Hope that helps a bit!

I've used Synta Silver in my 16v for last six years. Good oil, original spec., VW quality, and not expensive. That's all I would use personally. 144,000 miles and still goes like a train.

...bet he wasn't indicating at the time! Bloody BMW drivers

bcstudent, BeavisJem, Blimey, I hardly ever check in here and then find it's got loads of Norwich sitings! Any of you guys (and crazymarcel) going to Whitenoise this year? Could be a good place to meet up. (http://www.vwwhitenoise.com) Shame on you BeavisJem, for suggesting I would be seen at Roys in Bowthorpe! Sainsburys or Tesco's for me, unless running the C has bitten hard and then it's Lidl's or Aldi! Saw a nice dark Mreg VR at Fiveways roundabout today, flashed me back, which was nice!

You would expect so, for sure, but when I noticed the wire chafed through on mine the fuse hadn't blown, presumably because the wire insulation had broken through, the core was exposed but just laying along the body rather than touching it! Just a thought....
-
smiff, Just a thought mate, but when i replaced my grille a while ago I found that one of the wires to the horn had chafed through against the metalwork behind the grille, to the rear of the horns. I know it's unlikely to have happended to both of them on yours (two tone horn), but you never know, the wiring's getting old now!

I would just replace the filter, check the pipe isn't blocked, and mop up any excess with a rag and not worry about it!
