I thought standard was 22mm?
-
I'm looking forward to a brief review of your Flight Technician training books with great anticipation MK2 (light weight and agile), MK3, MK4 Golf (fat and bloated) all used 38mm rear pistons and 54mm front pistons on there calipers from 1988 - 2004 (and maybe beyond?). Lucas / Girling / Teves / VW know a little about brakes I think? As 80% of the braking is done by the front wheels adding a larger rear piston to the standard pad disk combination will add very little improvement IMO, if you wanted more rear braking force you could simply adjust the rear axle load sensing valve to give more rear bias - not recommended for road use.
-
OK, I'll step aside then, GLWS
-
The bigger the bucket the more water is needed to fill it to raise the level by the same amount
-
The pads and disks do the stopping, if they stay the same and the piston is enlarged from 38mm to 41mm the improvement in braking will be negligible IMO The larger piston will need more fluid to move the same distance and will need more pedal travel because of this, something the Corrado could do without, so 38mm calipers for me

One pair of goodridge flexis for standard rear calipers £25 posted uk
-
I have a new pair, pm me an offer if you like

Yes, 288mm and 312mm use the same calipers, the carriers allow the differing disk diameters
-
Why not use a length of studding and slim nuts?

With stupid prices like that it ensures Fuzzer and Purpletom will always be needed / busy selling parts to forum users. That said if you look through his feedback of the stuff he's actually sold the prices seem reasonable? I always thought sams salvage was our old friend badboyhiggins (banned from this forum)?

The best thing to do is measure the voltage across the battery terminals with the engine running and then compare the voltage at the bulbs, if its the same then the loom is doing its job

All the above are used, the disks have slight wear, they've been in storage for a few years and I've cleaned them up with a wire brush in a grinder, rears come with there Greenstuff pads and bearings (I'm keeping the stub axles) The MK4 rears were fitted to one of my own cars I've broken in the past that were fully functional but need a clean up and paint. £70 delivered by Myhermes signed for. I can measure the thickness of the disks with a micrometer if you require me to do so

Look for Seat Toledo V5s as they are almost free, sell the wheels and electric seats and you'll be on your way to getting your money back. The AGZ estate was a nice cruiser, pulled well from idle and made touring Cornish coastal roads effortless, where as a 1.8T required gear changes on the twisty roads making it a bit of a pain in comparison. You'll need a VR6 gearbox (the V5 gearbox ratios wont really suit the MK1 and you'd have to change the drive cups from 108 mm to 100mm anyway).

Ive owned a couple of v5s, early agz is a vr6 less one cylinder but with variable inlet, will map to around 165 bhp with decat and exhaust. Late has aqn and is the same as bde less one cylinder so variable inlet and vvt on both cams. The complexity is the same as with the 6 cylinder engines and the finished value less so i don't know why anyone would bother?

Very nice:) MK4 golf strut top plate covers? Has anyone ever fitted a MK4 golf plastic battery cover?
