  1. Is the foliage cover in the scuttle sealed properly. The seal on mine was like a biscuit and literally snapped off in bits. I was getting water in near the centre tunnel as it would run through the heater box and trickle out of the foot vent. A quick trip to B&Q for some draft excluder foam seal and it's water tight again. Jay
  2. I must admit having started driving the rado as a daily I have noticed people don't seem to be as aware of you braking, which I assume is the lack of a high level brake light that they are so used to seeing.. Jay
  3. They are definitely going black. Maybe with a subtle Koni sticker on them somewhere :) Your not wrong about the hard work with the mounts. I have changed both the front and the rear mount every night for the last week or so. I have actually ending up pulling a muscle in my chest from doing it! Jay
  4. I think black is what these will be getting, won't look as "sexy" in the inner arch shots but will be nicely hidden when you look through the wheels. :)
  5. Just so happens I have a MK4 golf 1.8T for sale with the cream electric Recaros in :). Jay
  6. A3 Recaros... MK4 Recaros... These are the seats I think of when you say A3 Recaros and MK4 Recaros. Totally different Jay
  7. Don't worry I have some decent masks etc.. Its a tiny area so will not require huge quantities of media etc... The "gun" is more like an airbrush and should be pretty controlled. I want to do as thorough a job as I can and if I have the opportunity to remove "all" the rust I would rather do that than treat it and hope it lasts. Jay
  8. LOL. I knew you would say that Gareth. I am with you to be honest, quite like the idea of the "stealth" lowering. Jay
  9. What are you sat in, in your avatar pic? Looks pretty serious. Jay
  10. The A3 recaros are very different to the MK4 ones. Having had both in my MK4's I would say stick with the "sports" if they are mint. The Recaros are lovely if they are in the car, but they are not worth swapping to IMHO, the Sport ones are actually more "bolstered" and I preferred them. The only thing they don't have is the recessed headrests, but its a minor difference. Jay
  11. Welcome. Sounds like a good base. Get some pics up and some more details about the car. With regard to the door handles Dave16v on here does replacement levers for the door handle which is probably all thats broken. Its a common Corrado issue. Jay
  12. I have them in my hands now, need some cleaning up but for the price they are great. No leaks etc.. Question is, do I get the Koni's powder coated the original Yellow, or do I get them black so they look OEM. Likewise with the springs. Green or OEM Black? Jay
  13. I have a small patch of surface rust in the scuttle tray on the Rado and I want to clean it up. My neighbour (a 4x4 nut) has a media blaster and compressor which uses glass, I think, and is happy to let me use it. Its intended for small areas and I think it would be ideal. My question is, does anyone have any experience with these? Will it remove all the rust how I would like it to? I am pretty sure it will work and the best bit is I can't get a grinder or anything else in there so its perfect for the job. Jay
  14. After a trip to the breakers on Saturday to lend a hand to Andy (C5 OEM) and collect a lamdba sensor connector, I noticed a little dribble of oil under the car and could smell burning oil while driving. So I had a look around and thanks to the fact I had cleaned up and painted the front of the engine the other week while I had the chance, I noticed the oil (virtually clear) trickling from the oil pressure sensor. So a new one purchased on the way home and fingers crossed it will stay dry :) Been endlessly swapping around engine mount inserts of different stiffnesses all week while I finalise the hardness for the group buy, so much so that its now a standing joke with the wife that every evening I am going out to "play in the bushes". Thankfully I have now settled on the perfect balance of holding the engine nice and secure, but not adding any vibration to the car. I took it too far and there was a lot of cabin vibration so I am happy I have found the right level now. Jay
  15. Lovely story. Glad someone else is as crazy as me, I have a nearly 2 year old and another due in 3 weeks and I have just got the Corrado on the road as the daily. The missus will have the family car (BMW X5), leaving me to have the fun every day :) There is something which means our wifes let us get them time and again, if it was anything else they would say no, but somehow we get away with it when its a Corrado. Jay
  16. I reckon thats left overs from the rocker cover gasket. As suggested, clean it up a bit and see what comes back. This is the reason while I had the chance when I had the front end off I cleaned the block up etc.. Had an oil leak over the last couple of days and could smell it burning on the exhaust, but the actual source was the oil pressure switch on the front of the block, would have been very hard to tell if it was all filthy still. Jay
  17. Its often one step forward two steps back with a rado, but i always look at is as three jobs done in the end :) Is the leakage not from the rocker cover gasket? It's common down that side of the block... Jay
  18. Love the fact you are doing so much yourself, some inspiring work in this thread.
  19. Take it off with a receptacle for the power steering fluid which will come out. You need to support the rad too.
  20. I just had a piece of metal tube lying about which fitted the bill perfectly, so I can put the details up of it. Jay
  21. I will try and "reconstruct" all the bits again in an assembly style for you on the bench. The only bit Boost Monkey missed out is the sleeve to allow the bush to pop through. Jay
  22. Yeah I remembered doing mine before with a press and them being like slippery eels.. Hence my method with the washers, it was soooo easy :)
  23. Completely agree. Mileage to me has never meant anything on a car. I go with history, gut feel and a mechanical understanding. My latest Rado has done 213,000 and as mentioned at the beginning of the thread is super smooth and pulled 190BHP and 190lb/ft on the rollers. I have yet to check the chains/tensioners and have no idea when/if they were done, but high mileage does not always mean bad and low does not always mean good. On the original topic, does anyone have any actual photographic evidence of tensioner/chain failure?
  24. Decent poly ones don't "ruin" the ride but OEM ones are better and retain the passive rear steer more. It's not to say personal preference does not mean you might prefer the dynamics of poly, but from experience OEM is the way to go in this location... The R32 bushes mentioned are for the front wishbones not the rear beam. Jay
