New garage - what to put in my want list?

Kitchen units was something I was planning on in a kind of L shape at the back corner, want to get them gloss white so everything is super clean when it's all packed away. Garage storage solutions are nice but massively over priced :) This is my current space, ignore the fact that my two roller cabs are not under the bench but it's basically clear space where the car sits and then a bench at the end. The new garage will be about 1m wider and 2m longer, so the far end will be a nice workshop space, plus it will be properly built rather than me trying to insulate a prefab garage! Jay -
Great, glad you are happy. Like I say to eliminate a touch of the stiffness replace the lower rear part only. The front lower part will not make any noticeable difference, but you want the two top pieces to match. Not that I have done loads of experimenting LOL. Just as a note, you can use either the front or rear lower piece they are the same. Jay

No roof to worry about, it will all be plaster boarded as there will be two bedrooms above it :) I will have something like this as the start point. Jay -

LCD TV is a given ;) To be honest I am more after clever ideas, things like a neat storage solution for something etc... Pics are always good too :) Jay -

It will definitely have power all over the place, as well as good heating and insulation, as mentioned the intention is its like a lounge, but with a garage door at the end :) I will have a large compressor in there so am intending to have air line connections round the whole garage too. A lift or pit is not going to be an option, although I will have the upstairs floor above raised slightly so there is a decent ceiling height in the garage. Jay -
We are currently in the throws of planning for our new extension on the house and part of the extension will be a new garage/workshop for me. Woohoo! This will be effectively a room of the house, so think insulated, plastered, painted and heated with central heating radiators. It will be the garage for the Corrado but also be a workshop with a bench area to sit at etc.. The whole thing will be about 4m wide, enough to open the car doors and about 8m long, so plenty of room hopefully. So. I am after ideas of clever things people have seen or have themselves in a garage. I am not talking full on mega F1 garage stuff, although feel free to show little ideas, but more budget but quality touches. So what you got? Cheers Jay

I do wish they would go back to the "real" events on their road trips though rather than contrived ones. It used to be hilarious when they showed the genuine off the cuff humour, but now its a lot of staged gags. Still look forward to it on a Sunday evening though :) Jay

Hi all, Anyone out there got a decat pipe for a VR I can buy. About to fit my miltek and if I can fit the de-cat at the same time it would be a bonus. Let me know what you have. Cheers Jay

Mini update. After a quick wash in preparation for a bit more detailing yesterday I took one look at the rear wiper and decided it just had to come off as IMHO it looks completely out of place on the rear of a coupe. So it was out with the spanners and 5 mins later it was all smooth. A 5p rubber bung is it's replacement until I get the paint done at some point and make it permanent :) Oh and my shiny Miltek finally arrived, so I need to try and get that fitted soon. Jay -
It's easy honest :) OK so on to the front.... First off remove the 17mm bolt from the top, easily accessed down behind the radiator. Then remove the cover from under the mount on the underside of the crossmember. This leaves the lower part of the mount visible. Undo the 8mm cap head screw and remove the lower part of the mount. Once this is removed you can jack the engine up and wriggle the upper section of the mount out. With this out remove the old rubber section and fit the new poly piece. Again I used copper slip, but not essential. Once done refit the upper part of the mount back into the crossmember and lower the engine back down, this will allow you to push on the smaller lower mount part. Then just bolt on the washer and metal disc with the 8mm cap head bolt supplied and refit the cover. All done.

Figured that now the mounts have been shipped I should put up a basic how to fit them guide. Put simply the red poly bits you will receive replace the black rubber bits in both the front and rear mount. First job is to remove the existing mounts to fit the new inserts. The rear one is the most complicated so we will start there. First off you need to remove the heat shield over the mount if you have it by just removing the push fit metal clips. Once the heat shield is off, undo the two 13mm bolts on either side of the mount and the 13mm nut on the top holding the lambda sensor bracket. These are all easily reached by using a long extension on a 13mm socket from up above the engine. Once these are undone and the bracket is out of the way you can undo and remove the 17mm bolt in the centre. Next you need to lift the back of the engine as high as you reasonably can, this will lift the engine away from the mount enough to simply wriggle the mount out. You can choose how you lift the engine up, but make sure you pick a solid point and as close to the back corner as you can. So you now have the mount out and ready to dismantle. First job is to bend back the tabs, use a big old screwdriver for this. Once these are back the two halves of the mount come apart. Now you can see the existing lower rubber part of the mount, remove the cap head bolt from the mount and you will now be able to access the upper rubber part. Remove the existing part and replace it with one of the two larger parts in the kit. I put some copper slip on mine but I don't think it's really needed. Then you can refit the plate and fit the larger diameter (80 odd mm) of the two thin mount parts to it. Then fit one of the two metal discs in the kit along with a washer and one of the new cap head bolts supplied. Once fitted you can refit the lower housing by bending the tabs back again. Refitting in the car is reverse of removal, but use the two 13mm bolts supplied to bolt the mount back to the subframe. Also make sure the tabs on top of the mount are lined up under the metal bracket on the engine. Your all done for the rear mount. I will post up the front mount one in a bit. Jay

Cheers guys. Got to thank Andy (C5 OEM) for his work, I am happy to have a good go at detailing but have always gone for fresh paint so am not that well practiced and it would have taken me a lot longer to get to this point. I want the car to look smart for the winter and with a set of BBS RC'S on there and the konis I bought it should come together in the next few weeks. Jay -

We had a go with a cut first using Mez on a coarse wool mop but it was just not taking out some of the deeper little scratches. The wet sand got them straight away and then was easily lost. Like I say we have only really done a first pass and I will now spend a long time going through all the stages over the next few weeks. I am holding off paint until after the winter, partly due to this coming up so well. Still loads to do but it's got me excited about cleaning it up. Jay
