  1. Good work, Fay! 'Bout time too!
  2. Thanks, Tom, good to know. Yeh, that's the same pulley as mine that's rattling. Let me know how it goes if you weld it- sounds like a plan :)
  3. A painless dent removal specialist will be able to sort that out no problem - they usually charge about £50-70 a panel, and the good ones can work wonders. A little spendy, but at least its fixable. Have a word with your VW dealer and see who they use to prep their used cars :) Thanks- was thinking along these lines...
  4. I agree, I mean...being run over by a Skoda!? *hides* You can run, but you can't hide! + it was a MK5 GTI
  5. Never seen anything like this before! Poor thing must've been traumatised!
  6. Where's the update?! Jo was saying you've had the paint done and it looks superb! We need pics!
  7. anything i might want mate :) and dont leave here forever mate, as you are as far as i'm concerned, one of the nicest blokes i have met while being on this forum :) Your not wrong! :camp:
  8. No need to change the Forge DV- just change the air filter for a BMC, Carbonio etc and you'll get a nice sound (not too loud, but loud enough 8) ). Some people even fit the DV round the other way, which gives a metallic sound every time you lift off. Tried it for a day but got a little embarassed when every pedestrian I drove past turned around and stared! With a decent map (Performance Torque or a DG Revo), it should make 210 BHP.
  9. They look superb- can see why you were looking so smug about them Dave! 8) Love the logo- any chance of that on my heatshield? :norty:
  10. Huge congratulations, Michael! You kept that one very quiet! All the best with the birth and the first few months of sleeplessness :)
  11. Ha ha- no I won't mate- don't worry! Felt like it last night though!
  12. Thanks for the info David :notworthy: Ordered a new belt from VW today and it's the same length as the old one :? The parts guy said the shorter belt is for a car with aircon. Really puzzled- hopefully all will become clear when I pick up the new one. Could the old one have stretched that much?! Cheers guy! Nope, certainly won't do that again. I shouldn't work on the car when I'm tired  Hope it can be fixed- just don't have the money though :(
  13. Accidentally left the ratchet on one of the alternator bolts and shut the bonnet :( The bonnet now has a nice little crease in it - so fecking annoyed with myself! :( :mad2:
  14. Right, worked out how to tighten it- can't be tightened anymore as it's on the last tooth  The belt is 10 x 950. The alternator pulley has a very faint squeek, but moves well. The pulley on the waterpump is quite wobbly- does this just need tightening? If so, how? Cheers!
  15. Jim, complete novice with belts- how do I tighten it? Dave, there are 3 pulleys for the alternator.
  16. Octavia vRS! 8) Absolutely love mine- few little mods and they make very good power.
  17. Got an intermittent grinding/rattle sound- seems to be coming from the alternator. Have also noticed the lights flickering recently. The car has defo got the wrong belt on- the tensioner bolt is right at the end + I can easily twist the belt further than 90 degrees. Thought I would change: PAS belt Alternator belt Is it worth changing the waterpump and stat at the same time? Any suggestions as to what could be causing the rattle and what to change whilst I'm in there would be much appreciated! :)
  18. I would just use a standard paper filter in a G60- the charger doesn't like ANYTHING coming through with the air and a K&N will let some tiny particles through. Just my 2p :)
  19. I had a standard suitcase/rear silencer on my last VR, with a decat + straight through pipe to replace the front silencer. It was plenty loud enough and used to spit flames sometimes! 8) I guess it might be worth a go, if it's not too expensive to get done- then you've got the option of reversing it if it's too loud. Nothing worse than a boomy exhaust on the motorway...
  20. Reckon you'd need the arches rolled for sure...
  21. Not sure about the VR6 flywheel, but the G60 one (same as 16v I think) defo fits. A lot of 20VT owners use it as an upgrade on the standard dual mass flywheel.
  22. That's the ISV damper pot. Basically it's there to quieten things down a bit and is full of sponge. Take it off and give it a close inspection- these have been known to split and explode from time to time! Makesure the sponge is still inside. If not, check the hoses and make sure it's not been sucked into one of them. This could cause the probs you describe, or an air leak. You can actually delete the damper pot completely with no ill effects. Just buy some decent hose of the same bore and instead of it routing from the ISV-damper-engine, route it straight from the ISV-engine. In fact, if you twist the ISV round a little, you maybe able to use one of the damper hoses. Undo the leads and take the black plastic engine cover off- makes access much easier ;)
  23. Do you mean the small front silencer, or the big 'suitcase' in the middle? Defo remove the front one (sounds great!), but I wouldn't remove the suitcase- would be stupidly loud!
